Amanda Ba Rethinks the Power of Sport in New San Francisco Show
Summary As the NBA Finals heats up, a new exhibition in San Francisco invites us to consider the stories that empower our beloved games. AtMicki Meng, Chinese American painterAmanda BapresentsFor Sport, her debut solo exhibition in the NorCal hub, turning to the language of athleticism — bodies in motion, muscles under tension – as a means to explore deeper themes of identity, spectacle and power. The works on view build off the ideas in Ba'sDeveloping Desireexhibition staged at Jeffrey Deitch last fall, this time zeroing in on the psychosexual drama of high-performance sport. In this showcase of seven figurative paintings, a newly conjured cast of characters take on the likes of boxers, hunters, synchronized swimmers, basketball players, weightlifters and skiers. While embodying the grit and grace of their respective games, the East Asian female protagonists push against stereotypes of obedience and hyperfemininity, asserting strength, agency and emotional complexity in their intensely muscular presentations. In a recent interview withDazed, Ba cited last year's Paris Olympics as a key inspiration: 'It's such a nationalistic display of soft power,' she said. 'And it's so easy, for me even, to be influenced by judgments of those moments and project them onto a view of an entire nation.' Here, mega-events, like the Olympics, act as arenas where 'heroism, aggression and eroticism' play out in every pose, every punch. More than affirming a hometown or namely national pride, Ba explores how these competitions dually reinforce and refract cultural mythos and global hierarchies. Highlights include 'Knockout I & II,' where two female boxers face off beneath stadium lights, their confrontation both brutal and balletic, echoing struggles beyond the ring. Additionally, 'Hunters' depicts a figure traveling amid a pack of beagles. With a shotgun slung over the shoulder and face shadowed by the bill of a Sherlock's hat, the piece rides the line between a 'primitive activity' — done in the name of survival and 'for sport.' The exhibition is now onviewin San Francisco through June 27. Micki Meng Bayview1720 Armstrong Ave.,San Francisco, CA 94124

International Museum Day: Trend Of Exchanging Local Specialties Tears Across World Of Cultural Relics
CHENGDU, China, May 29 (Bernama) -- May 18 is International Museum Day. This year, a trend of 'specialty swap' has swept into the world of cultural relics. Under the initiative of the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, three major museums in Southwest China—Sanxingdui, Jinsha, and Luojiaba—have launched a cross-time-and-space 'cultural relics delivery' event. In southwestern China, the Sichuan Basin is a land where diverse civilizations converge. The Ba and Shu cultures complement each other, with the former being vigorous and martial and the latter refined and scholarly, blending harmoniously. The ancient Shu people were romantic and imaginative, as evidenced by their Bronze Mythical Tree and the Sun and Immortal Birds that embodied cosmic visions. The Ba people were valiant and warlike, as reflected in their bronze weapons and battle-themed engravings that recorded their tribal memories. These two cultures merged in their interactions, jointly crafting the rich and diverse chapter of the Ba-Shu region within the broader tapestry of Chinese civilization.

"Entire Bahrain stands with India", says all-party delegation member Nishikant Dubey
Manama [Bahrain], May 25 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, who is part of an all-party delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, said that Bahrain has strongly supported India and condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. He added that from today's meeting with Bahraini MPs, it was clear that Bahrain stands firmly with India. Speaking to ANI, Nishikant Dubey said, 'The meeting that took place right now, various MPs of Bahrain attended was the first nation to extend support to India and condemned the attack on April 22nd (Pahalgam)...from the interaction that happened today, I can say that entire Bahrain stands with India and will always do so... All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Asaduddin Owaisi, part of the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, referred to Pakistan as a 'failed state' during an interaction with prominent figures in Bahrain. During the interaction, Owaisi said, 'Our government has sent us over that the world knows the threat India has been facing since last so many years. Unfortunately, we have lost so many innocent lives. This problem emanates from Pakistan only. Unless and until Pakistan stops promoting, aiding and sponsoring these terrorist groups, this problem won't go away.' He further added, 'Our government has taken all the steps to protect the lives of every Indian. This govt has made very clear next time you (Pakistan) take up this misadventure, it will be beyond what they are expecting...' Owaisi noted that India has repeatedly exercised maximum restraint despite grave provocations. Recalling the Pahalgam attack in which 26 tourists were killed, he emphasised the human cost of terrorism. 'Please reflect on the human tragedy of this massacre. A woman married six days ago became a widow on the seventh day. Another woman, married just two months ago, also lost her husband in this attack,' he said. Asserting India's defensive strength, Owaisi added, 'India has all the wherewithal, and we have every means necessary to ensure the safety of not only Indian citizens, but also every individual residing in India.'AIMIM leader stated that India's air defence systems had effectively intercepted threats emanating from across the border. 'The government and the media, our air defence system, our technology and warfare capabilities, successfully intercepted and neutralised everything that was launched by a failed state like Pakistan,' he said. Owaisi stressed the need for international cooperation in curbing terror financing and urged the Bahrain government to support efforts to bring Pakistan back to the FATF grey list, stating that such funds have been used to support terrorist activities. 'There is unanimity in our country, irrespective of whatever political affiliations we belong to. We have our political differences, but when it comes to the integrity of our country, it is high time our neighbouring country understands...I request and hope that the Bahrain government will help us in bringing Pakistan back to the grey list of FATF because this money has been used to support those terrorists,' Owaisi said. The delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, also includes Nishikant Dubey MP, BJP; Phangnon Konyak, MP, BJP; Rekha Sharma MP, NJP; AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi; Satnam Singh Sandhu MP; Ghulam Nabi Azad; and Ambassador Harsh Shringla. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria. The multi-party delegation, consisting of seven groups led by one MP each, has been initiated to counter global misinformation and highlight India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. (ANI)

OFC Women's Champions League: Auckland United, Hekari FC cruise into final
Defending champions Auckland United FC and Papua New Guinea's Hekari Women's FC will clash in the final of the 2025 OFC Women's Champions League on Saturday. Photo: OFC/RNZ Pacific Defending champions Auckland United FC and Papua New Guinea's Hekari Women's FC have set themselves up for a rematch when they play in the 2025 OFC Women's Champions League final on Saturday. Both teams powered their way through the semifinals in Papeete, Tahiti, on Thursday to secure their place in the final. Hekari proved too strong for Fiji's Ba, winning 6-1 at the Stade Pater in the first semi-final, and booked a spot in their second straight OFC Women's Champions League final. Reigning champs Auckland United played in the second game game of the day and showed their dominance over Henderson Eels of the Solomon Islands, also winning 6-1 in the end. Auckland defeated Hekari 2-1 in pool play last week and also in last year's finals in Honiara. OFC said that Hekari turned in their best performance of the tournament in a dominant display and that had they been more ruthless in front of goal in the first half, would have won more emphatically. Ericsson Komeng's side dominated possession from the outset, were fluent in their buildup play but lacked quality in front of goal in the first spell before turning in a clinical second half performance. Ba were outplayed throughout the clash, but managed a goal in the first half to keep a 1-all draw at halftime. Luisa Tamanitoakula claimed the Fijian team's lone goal from the penalty spot. Hekari managed three through Nenny Elipas, who scored one in the first half and two in the second. Other goals came from Marie Kaipu, who claimed a double and Phylis Pala, with one. In the second semifinal, Auckland made a statement against Henderson Eels, scoring three times in the first seven minutes to effectively seal progression to the final. OFC said Zoe Benson scored a hat-trick inside 28 minutes to overtake Hekari United's Marie Kaipu in the race for the Golden Boot. She now has eight for the tournament, one clear of the Papua New Guinea side's captain and star striker. Henderson Eels playmaker Ileen Pegi showed her class in a brief moment of respite for the Eels with a strong run down the flank, before cutting back inside of Saskia Vosper and unleashing a stunning right-footed strike to beat a despairing Hannah Mitchell in the Auckland United goal. That goal in the 26th minute was as good as it got for the Solomon Islanders on attack. They did manage a free kick against the crossbar late in the second half. At the other end, while Betty Sade had a tough time in the Henderson Eels goal, she produced a moment of magic to deny Ava Pritchard from the penalty spot in the 36th minute. Leading by 5-1 at the break, Auckland United FC ensured there would be no dramatic comeback from their opponents two minutes after the restart when substitute Danielle Canham scored Auckland's sixth goal of the game. The final of the 2025 OFC Women's Champions League will be played at 2pm on Saturday (NZ time). The match will be telecast live and free on FIFA+.
