Hans India05-05-2025

Bengaluru: "The state government is committed to increasing the height of Almatti dam to 524 meters and utilizing our share of water," said DCM DK Shivakumar.
DCM Shivakumar, who is also the Minister of Water Resources, responded to the media at the Vidhana Soudha on Monday.
"The central government has to issue a gazette notification as per the Krishna Water Tribunal verdict in 2010. In this regard, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has called a meeting of representatives of four state governments on May 7. The ministers concerned have been called to meet and their opinions have been collected. We have discussed this issue with legal experts, and they will give their opinion in 2 days. Based on these, we will present our demand in the meeting of the Central Secretariat," he said.
"The government has already started the land acquisition process for the implementation of this project, and the necessary funds will be allocated for this," he said.
When asked if Andhra and Telangana will benefit from 13 TMC of water, he said, "Whether they benefit or lose. We should raise the dam to 524 meters. We will make whatever efforts are needed for that."
We will get the land required for tunnel road, metro
When asked about the meeting held regarding the land near Hebbal for the tunnel road and metro work, he said, "Hebbal junction is a very important place. Metro and tunnel road are needed here. Hence, we will take the required land. We cannot withdraw the project for any reason. We have asked the Metro and tunnel road officials to prepare its design. We have discussed how much military land and private land is required for this. We are committed to providing compensation through TDR or FAR. We are not ready to give up this land. Tenders have to be called for the construction of the tunnel, and we have held a meeting regarding the land required for this."
We have given them a free opportunity to inform their community
When asked about the start of the survey on internal reservation, he said, "The cabinet has decided to conduct a survey on internal reservation. A committee has been formed for this and all preparations have been made. People have been given a free opportunity to clearly inform their castes so that there is no confusion."
When asked about the confusion about internal reservation, he said, "There is no confusion. The Supreme Court has given its verdict on this issue. Our party has promised in its manifesto. Some of these communities have not given proper information, our number has increased, and those in urban areas have not disclosed their community. Therefore, they are being given a free opportunity."
Religious practices should not be hindered:
When asked about the removal of Janavara during the NEET exam in Kalaburagi, he said, "The government and officials should not hinder religious practices and ideas. This action of the central government is not right."

"Agreement that caste enumeration should be conducted": Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah after meeting Congress leadership

New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Karantaka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met with the Congress high command in Delhi on Tuesday to discuss key issues, where they discussed two to three crucial issues, including the caste census and the recent stampede in Bengaluru. Speaking to the media after the meeting, CM Siddaramaiah said that they have accepted the leadership's suggestion to re-enumerate the case census data. 'Discussions were held regarding the caste census as concerns were raised by some organisations, religious heads, and even a few ministers. The report submitted on the caste census has been accepted in principle. There is an agreement that a caste enumeration should be conducted. We have also agreed to this,' he said. He further mentioned that the discussion emphasised that the fresh survey should be completed within 90 days. 'We will conduct a fresh survey. Since the last enumeration was done in 2015-16, there is an opinion that a new enumeration is necessary. Just as we are conducting surveys for Scheduled Castes, we will carry out another enumeration. It was discussed that this survey should be completed within 90 days,' Siddaramaiah said. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal had earlier confirmed that the party leadership has suggested that the Karnataka government re-enumerate the caste census data. Speaking on the Bengaluru stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 that killed 11 people and left over 50 injured, CM Siddaramaiah briefed the Congress leadership about the action taken by the government. 'We discussed the recent tragic incident and explained the measures we have taken. A magisterial inquiry is underway, and a judicial commission has been appointed, led by retired Justice Michael Cunha. Five police officers have been suspended, intelligence officers have been transferred, and the political secretary has been relieved. We explained these actions, and there is a consensus that the measures taken are appropriate.' Siddaramaiah said. Referring to the stampede at Maha Kumbh Mela earlier this year in which more than 30 people lost their lives, Siddaramaiah said that the stampede should not be politicised. 'The Kumbh Mela incident should be discussed first before addressing this issue. I am not using the Kumbh Mela deaths to defend this incident. When people die, it is human to feel sorrow. This incident should not be politicised.' Siddaramaiah said. (ANI)

Tamil Nadu told to surrender super-speciality medical seats to AIQ counselling; move draws flak

Tamil Nadu had to surrender nearly 130 super-speciality medical seats meant for in-service candidates to the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling before conducting its second round of counselling. This was after the Directorate-General of Health Services (DGHS) asked the State to revert the vacant in-service seats to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for all-India counselling. The decision has drawn criticism from the Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association (TNMOA) as it sees this as going against the 50% reservation for in-service candidates. TNMOA State secretary M. Akilan said that usually, two rounds of counselling are held for the 215 super-speciality seats reserved for the in-service doctors. 'It is only after this that the vacant seats would be surrendered for the AIQ. But this time, the State has surrendered the seats before conducting the second round. As of now, 75-78 seats have been filled by in-service candidates... They should have sought legal opinion or asked the government before deciding. This goes against the 50% reservation for in-service doctors,' he said. Official sources said the State had taken up the issue with the DGHS as doctors strongly objected to the surrender of the seats. Tamil Nadu Health Secretary P. Senthilkumar wrote to the DGHS and the Union Health Secretary on June 9, saying that according to a Supreme Court order, 50% of the seats in the super-speciality courses at government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu are reserved for in-service candidates. The NEET Super Speciality (SS) counselling for the State quota in-service candidates was completed on May 27, and a letter was sent to the DGHS on May 29, requesting it to indicate the schedule for the State's second round of counselling to allow upgradation for in-service candidates. He said several representations were being received from in-service candidates for upgradation in the second round of the State quota counselling. Hence, all the seats reserved for them should be shown in the second round of the State counselling since 50% of seats are reserved exclusively for in-service candidates. He sought early intervention to enable the candidates to get the full benefit of the Supreme Court order. In a letter dated June 3, the DGHS asked Tamil Nadu to revert the vacant seats. the DGHS referred to Tamil Nadu Selection Committee's request to the MCC to submit the State schedule for round two of NEET SS counselling to allow upgradation to in-service candidates and fill the remaining in-service seats before they are surrendered to the AIQ counselling. However, it said the matter was taken forward to higher authorities but 'the request has not been acceded to since the delay in commencement of round-2 will hamper the whole All India schedule' that has been approved by the Union Health Ministry and ratified by the Supreme Court. The State counselling schedule, it said, had to run in tandem with the All India counselling schedule. So, conducting round two of State counselling before round two of All India counselling was not feasible. The DGHS asked the Selection Committee to revert the vacant in-service seats to the MCC to be included in the All India seat matrix since round two of All India counselling had begun as per schedule. Dr. Akilan, in a letter to the Health Secretary, said the decision of the State government to surrender the super-speciality seats for the AIQ immediately after the first round of counselling was a matter of concern. 'This premature surrender of seats is unprecedented and has not been adopted by any other State in the country. This move severely affects the prospects of service doctors who have dedicated years to serving in government institutions, often in challenging and underserved areas,' he said. The TNMOA urged the government to withhold the surrender of super-speciality seats until the later stages of the counselling process.

The Congress leadership on Tuesday directed the Karnataka government to conduct a fresh caste survey within 60-80 days to address concerns of communities left out in the decade-old enumeration.'It has been decided to clear the air over the earlier caste census with respect to its data accuracy and concerns of under-representation of certain communities,' DK Shivakumar told the media after his meeting with the AICC party's agenda is clear: to protect the interests of all sections of society,' he said, confirming that the high command asked the state to take up a fresh survey. 'Data will be collected once again through door to door and online surveys. The entire process would be done in a very transparent manner,' he Minister Siddaramaiah also confirmed the development, saying the state government has granted in-principle approval to the caste survey, which 'must be completed within 90 days,' with the final report submitted on to the Chief Minister, the decision was made due to the concerns raised by several communities, associations and ministers regarding the outdated Kantharaju Commission report, which is based on decade-old Congress government earlier agreed to accept the existing Backward Classes Commission report but will undertake a re-enumeration to accommodate communities that raised decisions were taken during a high-level meeting at the AICC headquarters, where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief Rahul Gandhi, and senior leaders KC Venugopal and Randeep Surjewala held discussions with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.'The caste census was conducted 10 years ago, and the data is now outdated. There are some apprehensions from some sections and communities about the counting of the caste,' Venugopal told reporters after the CABINET RESHUFFLE TALKSAfter speculation that a shake-up in Karnataka was underway after the state's handling of the recent stampede in RCB event, DK Shivakumar clarified that there were no discussions about a cabinet reshuffle during his meeting with Congress high command in Delhi."Let me make it clear, there were no discussions about a cabinet reshuffle," he asserted, putting an end to swirling political MLC nominations, he said, "On MLC nominations, the high command will convey its decision to the Chief Minister when the time comes."UNHAPPY OVER STAMPEDE'S RESPONSESources said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi expressed their displeasure over the involvement of the state government in the IPL victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangaluru (RCB) during which 11 people lost their lives in the stampede."Human lives are of great value to the Congress party and the government has to be responsive towards people, unlike the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh or the Left government in Kerala where no responsibility was taken for the loss of lives during the Kumbh and Sabarimala tragedy respectively," Rahul Gandhi said, "Certainly, we are very much concerned about every human life... The Government of Karnataka has already ordered a judicial enquiry to know what really happened."Must Watch IN THIS STORY#Karnataka#Rahul Gandhi
