Bengaluru: "The state government is committed to increasing the height of Almatti dam to 524 meters and utilizing our share of water," said DCM DK Shivakumar.
DCM Shivakumar, who is also the Minister of Water Resources, responded to the media at the Vidhana Soudha on Monday.
"The central government has to issue a gazette notification as per the Krishna Water Tribunal verdict in 2010. In this regard, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has called a meeting of representatives of four state governments on May 7. The ministers concerned have been called to meet and their opinions have been collected. We have discussed this issue with legal experts, and they will give their opinion in 2 days. Based on these, we will present our demand in the meeting of the Central Secretariat," he said.
"The government has already started the land acquisition process for the implementation of this project, and the necessary funds will be allocated for this," he said.
When asked if Andhra and Telangana will benefit from 13 TMC of water, he said, "Whether they benefit or lose. We should raise the dam to 524 meters. We will make whatever efforts are needed for that."
We will get the land required for tunnel road, metro
When asked about the meeting held regarding the land near Hebbal for the tunnel road and metro work, he said, "Hebbal junction is a very important place. Metro and tunnel road are needed here. Hence, we will take the required land. We cannot withdraw the project for any reason. We have asked the Metro and tunnel road officials to prepare its design. We have discussed how much military land and private land is required for this. We are committed to providing compensation through TDR or FAR. We are not ready to give up this land. Tenders have to be called for the construction of the tunnel, and we have held a meeting regarding the land required for this."
We have given them a free opportunity to inform their community
When asked about the start of the survey on internal reservation, he said, "The cabinet has decided to conduct a survey on internal reservation. A committee has been formed for this and all preparations have been made. People have been given a free opportunity to clearly inform their castes so that there is no confusion."
When asked about the confusion about internal reservation, he said, "There is no confusion. The Supreme Court has given its verdict on this issue. Our party has promised in its manifesto. Some of these communities have not given proper information, our number has increased, and those in urban areas have not disclosed their community. Therefore, they are being given a free opportunity."
Religious practices should not be hindered:
When asked about the removal of Janavara during the NEET exam in Kalaburagi, he said, "The government and officials should not hinder religious practices and ideas. This action of the central government is not right."

Shivakumar visits urban waste management facilities in Delhi to shape

New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and officials from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) met officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Monday and visited some facilities to learn how the national capital is dealing with urban challenges such as town planning, waste management and the construction bye-laws. 'Delhi is a very historic, big and planned city. The population is double that of Bangalore. There are three challenges in Delhi: town planning, waste management, and the construction by-laws. Though I visited Hyderabad and Chennai as well, but it was very important to know about the new policies in Delhi. If a city is not planned, it cannot work... I had a brief meeting and they gave their presentation citing new laws and their plans for the coming 25-30 years,' Shivakumar told reporters. He visited the Tehkhand Waste to Electricity Project Limited in Delhi. 'Among all the plants I have visited, this one seems to be the most modern. It was a good learning experience for me. Let me go to Bengaluru and discuss this with my colleagues,' Shivakumar said. According to Tehkhand Waste to Electricity Project Limited website, it is a step towards managing ever increasing Municipal solid Waste and to prevent it going to landfill which is one of the efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for waste management. As part of our efforts to study effective urban waste management, Shivakumar also visited the Okhla SLF site in Delhi today. 'Towards a Cleaner, Smarter Bengaluru! As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen municipal governance and enhance solid waste management in Bengaluru, I visited the Delhi Municipal Corporation at the SPM Civic Centre on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg today, accompanied by officers from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Our delegation was warmly received and engaged in insightful discussions with officials from MCD and DDA. We were briefed on Delhi's Master Plan, town planning strategies, building bye-laws, and the online building sanction system. We also visited the Okhla SLF site to understand the process of bio-mining legacy waste-an important step toward sustainable waste solutions,' he said in a post on X. 'This visit follows earlier study visits to Hyderabad and Chennai, as we continue to explore and learn from successful urban waste management models across India. The aim is clear: to adopt proven, scalable technologies and planning frameworks that will shape a cleaner, more sustainable future for Namma Bengaluru,' he added. To deal with various issues concerning garbage, waste and sewage, the Centre launched the Swachh Bharat Mission -Urban (SBM-U) on October 2, 2014 and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in 500 cities on June 25, 2015. To carry forward the work done on ground in Phase-I, Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) 2.0 has been launched on October 1st, 2021 for a period of five years, up to October 1, 2026, with a vision of achieving safe sanitation and scientific processing of municipal solid waste in all cities. Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah summoned to Delhi to meet Congress high command

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was summoned to Delhi for a meeting with the Congress high command to discuss the recent stampede outside M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru that left 11 people dead. According to the Chief Minister's Office, Siddaramaiah will be in Delhi on Tuesday for the meeting. The meeting gains significance as the state government is under fire from various quarters following the tragic incident. Opposition parties have demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar resign from their posts by taking moral responsibility for the incident. However, both leaders have dismissed the demands. Speculations are rife that the high command could ask some key ministers to step down from the Cabinet by taking moral responsibility for the stampede that happened during a felicitation ceremony for the Indian Premier League-winning Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team. The Karnataka government, it can be recalled, suspended former Bengaluru city police commissioner B Dayananada and other officials a day after the incident. MLC K Govindaraju was also sacked from the post of political secretary to the chief minister, as he was blamed for pushing for the celebrations in the city. Siddaramaiah is expected to meet top party leaders along with Shivakumar, who is already in Delhi. The latter is in the national capital to visit a solid waste management plant run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Apart from the loss of face suffered by the government for organising a felicitation ceremony for the RCB team at Vidhana Soudha despite opposition by the police, the two are also expected to finalise the list of four MLC candidates, said sources. The four seats have been vacant for six months now. The meeting also comes ahead of a second special Cabinet meeting convened to discuss the Socio-economic and Educational Census, which was placed before the state Cabinet in April this year.
