Bengaluru: "The state government is committed to increasing the height of Almatti dam to 524 meters and utilizing our share of water," said DCM DK Shivakumar.
DCM Shivakumar, who is also the Minister of Water Resources, responded to the media at the Vidhana Soudha on Monday.
"The central government has to issue a gazette notification as per the Krishna Water Tribunal verdict in 2010. In this regard, the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has called a meeting of representatives of four state governments on May 7. The ministers concerned have been called to meet and their opinions have been collected. We have discussed this issue with legal experts, and they will give their opinion in 2 days. Based on these, we will present our demand in the meeting of the Central Secretariat," he said.
"The government has already started the land acquisition process for the implementation of this project, and the necessary funds will be allocated for this," he said.
When asked if Andhra and Telangana will benefit from 13 TMC of water, he said, "Whether they benefit or lose. We should raise the dam to 524 meters. We will make whatever efforts are needed for that."
We will get the land required for tunnel road, metro
When asked about the meeting held regarding the land near Hebbal for the tunnel road and metro work, he said, "Hebbal junction is a very important place. Metro and tunnel road are needed here. Hence, we will take the required land. We cannot withdraw the project for any reason. We have asked the Metro and tunnel road officials to prepare its design. We have discussed how much military land and private land is required for this. We are committed to providing compensation through TDR or FAR. We are not ready to give up this land. Tenders have to be called for the construction of the tunnel, and we have held a meeting regarding the land required for this."
We have given them a free opportunity to inform their community
When asked about the start of the survey on internal reservation, he said, "The cabinet has decided to conduct a survey on internal reservation. A committee has been formed for this and all preparations have been made. People have been given a free opportunity to clearly inform their castes so that there is no confusion."
When asked about the confusion about internal reservation, he said, "There is no confusion. The Supreme Court has given its verdict on this issue. Our party has promised in its manifesto. Some of these communities have not given proper information, our number has increased, and those in urban areas have not disclosed their community. Therefore, they are being given a free opportunity."

Caste survey decision by Cong brass, not Karnataka government, says CM Siddaramaiah
BENGALURU: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah sought to clarify Wednesday that it was the Congress brass's decision and not his govt's to undertake a fresh caste survey, suggesting unease at the prospect of his core vote bank of minorities, backward classes and Dalits not taking kindly to re-enumeration after leaked data from the 2015 exercise showed a massive jump in their numbers. Siddaramaiah, under the pump for the June 4 stampede in Bengaluru in which 11 cricket fans died, told reporters at Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapur district that there were "some complaints" about the Kantharaj Commission's caste survey data. Won't reject 2015 census report: Siddaramaiah There were claims that the data was outdated, so some suggested a fresh enumeration within a relatively shorter timeline. We won't reject the (2015) report. We have already accepted it in principle," Siddaramaiah said. On whether he was disappointed with Congress's decision to go for fresh survey, he said, "We will act per the high command's directive. It's not our decision."Siddaramaiah and his deputy minister D K Shivakumar had been summoned to Delhi Tuesday for a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, purportedly to explain state govt's failure to stem the outrage over the stampede sparked by an allegedly mismanaged victory parade for IPL-winning cricket franchise RCB. While Siddaramaiah appeared wary of owning the decision to enumerate caste demography afresh, Shivakumar batted on the front foot. He questioned why BJP was criticising the decision to conduct a new survey after refusing to accept data from previous one. "Why such opposition when we are trying to address concerns? We are not rejecting the Kantharaj Commission's report. We are only trying to correct the shortcomings of the earlier survey," DKS said.

"Not a mad man, I don't even drink Royal Challenge": DK Shivakumar refutes rumours of buying RCB franchise
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, on Thursday, refuted the rumours of him buying the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, saying that he is not a mad man. Speaking to ANI, Shivakumar said that he had offers to be part of the management, but he doesn't have time for this. 'I am not a mad man. I'm just a member of the Karnataka Cricket Association from my younger days, that's all. I don't have time, though I had offers to be part of the management... Why do I need RCB? I don't even drink Royal Challenge,' the Karnataka DyCM said. On June 4, the stampede that occurred during celebrations outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Indian Premier League (IPL) victory celebrations claimed 11 lives. Following the Bengaluru stampede, the Karnataka Government on June 5 suspended top police officials at the Cubbon Park Police Station and formed a one-man commission under a retired High Court Judge to probe the incident. Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah dismissed the BJP's demand for his resignation over the Bengaluru stampede, accusing the party of 'doing politics in everything.' Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned why the BJP had not demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when a stampede occurred during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year. '40-50 people died in a stampede at Kumbh Mela. Did they demand the chief minister's resignation then? A bridge collapsed on the day of the inauguration, and 140 people died. Did they demand the Prime Minister's resignation then?' Siddaramaiah asked while talking to reporters here. Earlier today, the Karnataka High Court reserved the order on the petition filed by RCB's marketing head Nikhil Sosale, seeking interim relief on the ground that his arrest in alleged connection with the Bengaluru stampede was illegal. The High Court reserved the order for June 12 at 2:30 pm. (ANI)

HC to hear afresh pleas against Maratha reservation from July 18
A three-judge bench of the Bombay High Court Wednesday said that it will hear afresh from July 18 a batch of pleas challenging the constitutional validity of the 2024 law providing Maratha reservation. The bench noted that the state government's submission that an interim order passed last year that any applications for admissions to educational institutions or jobs at government authorities taking benefit of the impugned Act will be subject to further orders in the present proceedings still continues, therefore, it was inclined to conduct the final hearing on the pleas. The Supreme Court on May 13 had asked HC to expeditiously hear the pleas including application by students appearing for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate and postgraduate exams of 2025. The students filed pleas seeking interim relief, claiming that a delay in the disposal of pleas was impacting their right to equal consideration in the admission process. The pleas were not heard after the then Bombay HC Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya's transfer as the CJ of Delhi HC in January this year. Justice Upadhyaya was part of a full or three-judge bench, which since April, last year, had been hearing the pleas against the Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) Act, 2024 that provided 10 per cent reservation in education and government jobs to the Maratha community. The petitioners' arguments concluded on October 14, 2024. Two days after the SC order, the Bombay HC, on May 15, constituted a new three-judge bench/full bench of Justices Ravindra V Ghuge, N J Jamadar, and Sandeep V Marne, which heard the pleas on Wednesday. The 2024 law, which provided 10 per cent reservation in education and government jobs to the Maratha community that constitutes nearly one-third of Maharashtra's population, had been at the forefront of political discourse last year during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Senior advocate Pradeep Sancheti, for the petitioner students, argued that education and career of thousands of students appearing for NEET exams will be affected if the interim relief of stay on the effect of the 2024 law was not granted to them. However, Advocate General Birendra Saraf, representing the Maharashtra government, submitted that an interim order was issued by the HC on April 16, last year, and the same continued even till date, and the same was not brought to the notice of the Supreme Court. Saraf argued that the same interim order will apply to the petitioner students, and their admissions will be subject to further orders passed by the HC. He also submitted that interim relief cannot be sought by filing fresh petitions while the interim arrangement was made last year and the same continued from time to time. The full bench led by Justice Ghuge then expressed 'inclination to commence the final hearing of the matter' and said it will begin the same on July 18.
