Standard Glass edges higher after forging strategic partnership with Japan's AGI Group
Standard Glass Lining Technology (SGLTL) advanced 3.76% to Rs 158.65 after the company said that it has formed a strategic partnership with Japan's AGI Group to launch world's first glass-lined shell and tube heat exchangers in India.
AGI is a global leader in advanced glass-engineered systems, offering solutions for the pharmaceutical, biotech, and chemical sectors. Its sister company, GL HAKKO, focuses on high-quality glass-lined reactor and heat exchanger technologies.
The collaboration would grant the company an exclusive 20-year license to assemble and market GL HAKKOs world-class glass-lined shell and tube heat exchangers in India.
Indias pharmaceutical and chemical industries have long relied on graphite heat exchangers. In contrast, glass-lined shell and tube heat exchangers deliver superior durability, corrosion resistance, and process safety, representing a game-changing upgrade for critical process applications.
The latent Indian market alone is estimated to be about Rs 2,000 crore at current estimated sales price of this product, while the global opportunity estimates exceed $2 billion. Standard Glass has already secured 150 advance orders ahead of domestic production.
Nageswara Rao Kandula, managing director of SGLTL, said: We are deeply honoured to partner with AGI and GL HAKKO, a group with a legacy spanning over 75 years in glass technology. Until now, this highly specialized equipment was entirely imported. We are now proud to become the first and only manufacturer of this advanced product in India.
Manufacturing of this product in India is estimated to commence by Q4 FY26 at our upcoming world-class, highly mechanised facility, with an initial estimated capacity of about 200 units per month.
In a parallel initiative, SGLTL has also signed an exclusive agreement with GL HAKKO to produce conductivity glass-lined reactorsa first for India.

Tesla secures fourth India office in Mumbai as part of expansion strategy
As part of its broader strategy to expand operations in India and build a local ecosystem for future manufacturing and supply chain activities, Tesla has leased a new commercial space in central Mumbai 's Kurla west area, marking another step in its India entry. The new premise will be utilised to set up a vehicle service center. This is Tesla's fourth commercial space in India, after its engineering facility in Pune, a registered office in Bengaluru, and a 30-seater office near Mumbai's central business district, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) secured for a year. This is also the second commercial transaction concluded by Tesla in quick succession over the past two months, reflecting its increasing focus on operational readiness in India. The US company's India arm Tesla India Motor & Energy has signed a five-year lease for the new premises in Macrotech Developers ' Lodha Industrial and Logistics Park in Kurla spanning across 24,500 sq ft. The agreement, registered in May, includes a starting monthly rent of Rs 37.53 lakh. Over the entire lease term, the company will pay more than Rs 24 crore in rent. The license period of five years starts on April 20 and the agreement includes a rent-free period of one month and ten days, with rent payments beginning on June 1, showed the documents accessed through realty data analytics firm CRE Matrix. The rent is subject to an annual escalation of 5% and Common Area Maintenance (CAM) charges are set at Rs 10 per sq ft of chargeable area, with a 5% escalation applicable at the start of each financial year. This deal follows the company securing its first India showroom in BKC, marking a key milestone in its long-awaited entry to its growing EV market. This deal had set a national record in terms of lease rentals at Rs 881 per sq ft a month. ET's email query to Tesla India and the property owner Macrotech Developers remained unanswered until the time of going to press. The move assumes significance and indicates Tesla's approach to India that has shifted into high gear since February, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Musk during his US visit. The EV giant had earlier raised concerns over steep import duties in India. Tesla's India entry has been the subject of much anticipation, particularly after recent policy tweaks by the Indian government aimed at encouraging global EV manufacturers to invest and set up manufacturing units locally. Though Tesla is yet to confirm a factory location, moves like this lease suggest groundwork is quietly underway.

OpenAI Academy expands to India, commits $150,000 to nonprofits
BENGALURU: OpenAI has expanded its AI for Impact Accelerator initiative in India, providing a total of $150,000 in technical grants to 11 nonprofit organisations that are building artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at addressing challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, and other underserved sectors. The latest phase of the programme falls under the newly formed OpenAI Academy and marks a year of engagement with Indian nonprofits using AI for public benefit. Several of the participating organisations have already integrated OpenAI's technology to improve operational scale, user experience and measurable impact. Rocket Learning, for instance, is using generative AI over WhatsApp to deliver early childhood learning content to parents and daycare workers. The organisation is currently reaching four million children across 11 states. Noora Health, which supports families of patients in low-resource settings, has automated parts of its caregiver engagement workflows, reducing message review volume for nurses while increasing the number of families served. Educate Girls is applying AI to identify and bring back out-of-school girls in rural India. I-Stem has converted over 1.5 million web pages into accessible formats to assist visually impaired users. Pinky Promise, a reproductive health platform, said its AI-powered chatbot enables a team of three doctors to manage care for 10,000 patients, with a reported medication adherence rate of 92%. Other organisations in the cohort include those focused on agriculture, digital inclusion, public policy delivery, and skilling through AI-based personalisation. OpenAI said that it plans to onboard more India-based nonprofits into the programme later this year and added that additional initiatives focused on the region are currently in development.
