Seven-Passenger Lucid Gravity Crushes The Quarter-Mile Quicker Than Its SUV Competition — And Most Supercars
In the video, which also features the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and Range Rover Sport SV, the Gravity Dream Edition with its 1,070 horsepower, 909 pound-feet of torque and 6,045 pounds of weight finished the quarter-mile sprint in just 10.5 seconds. That's the same as the Panamera and R1S, but crucially the Gravity was pulling nearly half a G when it crossed the line, and its 139 mph trap speed was 8 mph higher than the Panamera and 11 mph higher than the Rivian, the latter of which was pushing up on its 130-mph limiter.
Behind those three vehicles were the Macan, which finished in 11 seconds at 124 mph, the RS Q8 at 11.6 seconds and 117 mph, and the Range Rover Sport SV with 11.9 seconds at 118 mph.

Mind-Bending Speed
To put the Gravity's acceleration in perspective, we've got to look at supercars for speed benchmarks. Clearly, normal crossovers and SUVs won't cut it when it comes to this vehicle. Cammisa's 10.5-second quarter-mile time and 139-mph trap speed are identical to what he saw in the McLaren 750S. It's also quicker than the Corvette Z06, Ferrari F8, Bentley Continental GT Speed and Mercedes-AMG GT63 — all cars that he has tested in the past on the same track. That's bananas.
To be fair to the other vehicles Cammisa tested it against, the Gravity Dream Edition makes a lot more power than most of them. The closest you'll find is the R1S Quad, which has 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft of torque. Both of those SUVs make nearly double the Macan Turbo's 630 hp and 883 lb-ft of torque. The RS Q8 and Range Rover also lag behind, putting out 631 hp and 626 hp from their twin-turbo V8s, respectively. Finally, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid lays down a gnarly 771 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque, but it's still not enough to overcome the Gravity or the R1S Quad.
We're living in a brave new world when it comes to EV crossover acceleration, and I don't expect it to change anytime soon.

What's The Dumbest Car On Sale Today?
There's a lot to consider when you're buying a new car. Does it fit in my budget? Is it practical enough for what I plan to do with it? How does it compare against other vehicles? There's one thing, though, that not enough people are considering: Is this car dumb? That idea is what has led me to today's question. I want to know what you all think is the dumbest car on sale today. Crucially, I don't want to know what you think is the worst car on sale. I already asked you that, and this question has a very different spirit. That being said, I won't sit here and tell you what your criteria for a dumb car should be. That's up to you. It can be dumb because of its size (either big or small), dumb because of its looks, dumb because of its engine or dumb because of its useless battery range. This is your world, friend. I'm just living in it. Read more: These Are The Cars You'd Buy If They Were $20,000 Cheaper My Choice If you were to ask me what my answer to this question would be — which you didn't, but I'm in charge — I'd probably say something like the Tesla Cybertruck. It's very obviously one of the dumbest vehicles on sale today, but that's too easy of an answer, and that's why I'm going to say the Toyota Mirai is the dumbest vehicle you can currently buy. Please keep in mind that I don't think the Mirai is the worst car you can buy, because that's also the Cybertruck, but it is still incredibly dumb. Sure, it's a nice-enough luxury sedan with good looks and a solid interior, but the fuel it runs on makes all of that a moot point. The Mirai famously runs on hydrogen, and there are exactly 51 hydrogen fueling stations in the U.S., and those are all in California. That means the car is pretty much useless anywhere that isn't California. If you want to take it on a road trip, too damn bad. You're never going to be going somewhere else that has a hydrogen fueling station. There's a reason that sales for Mirais are in the tank and they depreciate faster than you can finish this sentence. Maybe one day hydrogen will catch on and the Mirai will make sense, but today certainly isn't that day. That's why I think the Mirai is the dumbest car currently on sale. OK, that's enough of me yapping. I think it's time for you goons to head on down below and let everyone know what you consider to be the dumbest vehicle currently on sale. Don't hold back. The car companies aren't going to get mad at you. And, as always, if you tell me why you think a car is dumb, let me know why. I'll be handing out $15 Chili's gift cards to those who do. Waymo's Robotaxi Service Reaches Another Major U.S. City Next Year
One by one, America's major cities are being infiltrated by the robotaxi buzz. Waymo is one of the leading autonomous taxi providers in the United States, and the company has just announced that it will be expanding to Dallas, Texas, in 2026. This expansion to a major area in the Lone Star State adds to other Waymo robotaxi deployments planned for 2026, including Washington D.C. and Miami. Waymo has once again emphasized its fleet's safety standards as it prepares to launch in Dallas. The launch in Dallas will expand Waymo's coverage in Texas beyond Austin, where commuters can already order a driverless taxi via Uber. In Dallas, Waymo will leverage its partnership with Avis to provide commuters with a reliable, efficient, and safe taxi service. "We are excited that fully autonomous ride-hailing services are scheduled to begin in Dallas next year," said Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert. "The Waymo and Avis partnership will offer an innovative, technology-based transportation option for our residents and visitors. We look forward to the launch of this new service." The ride-hailing service will be available via the Waymo app, with the Avis Budget Group's experience in fleet management, vehicle readiness, maintenance, and infrastructure helping to get the Dallas operation up and running. Related: Waymo Won't Like U.S. City's Response to Its Driverless Technology Waymo claims that its robotaxis are much safer than vehicles operated by humans. Based on its data, the Waymo Driver resulted in 88% fewer serious injury or worse crashes, 79% fewer crashes involving an airbag deployment, and 78% fewer crashes involving an injury of any kind. There are safety benefits for vulnerable road users, too, with Waymo reporting 93% fewer pedestrian crashes with injuries, 81% fewer cyclist crashes with injuries, and 86% fewer motorcycle crashes with injuries. Currently operating in Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Austin, Waymo provides over 250,000 paid trips and its taxis cover millions of miles each week. In Phoenix, Waymo recently launched a new teen-friendly service, where teens as young as 14 can ride alone in an autonomous cab. In June, Tesla launched its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, with several driverless Model Y crossovers. It didn't take long for the service to raise safety concerns, as one Model Y was already involved in a minor crash, and several others were spotted violating traffic laws. Lucid is set to launch its own robotaxi service with Nuro and Uber, with a fleet of driverless Gravity electric SUVs. Roughly 20,000 of these vehicles will be deployed over a six-year period, with a launch to take place in a major U.S. city next year. It remains to be seen which robotaxi service ends up dominating, and that could come down to the one that offers the best safety reputation. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Lucid teams up with Timothée Chalamet
EV maker Lucid (LCID) is partnering with Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet. Chalamet has been named the company's first-ever global brand ambassador. Yahoo Finance Senior Autos Reporter Pras Subramanian reports the details. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Market Domination Overtime here. Meanwhile, luxury EV maker, Lucid trying to accelerate the brand with celebrity status, the latest company announcing a star spokesperson. This time, it's actor Timothy Chalamet who was named Global brand ambassador and a break down the company's move. Want to bring Pras Subramanian, Yahoo Finance's senior auto reporter, Pras. Walk us through this news. Well, you know, it kind of caught my eye because we just came off, you know, the heels of Sydney Sweeney's kind of, you know, signing with, uh, American Eagle there with being being being like the new campaign for the for the fall. This actually Lucid's move with Chalamet is actually Timothy Chalamet, as I should say, is actually a multi-year deal, right? As global brand ambassador. You see him there in the new Gravity SUV. This is part of the whole deal, right? They're launching this new SUV, it's gonna be kinda hitting showrooms in sort of force this summer and the fall and he's gonna appear in some commercials with that car. And it's funny because Lucid said that they sort of got the idea of approaching Chalamet because he apparently was seen driving one of the Lucid vehicles in 2023. They saw that, thought about, you know, he's a he's a kind of like a an iconic moment, right? For for this generation and acting multi award winner and nominee for an Oscar for Dune movie. So, you know, it's not what's not to love here if you're Lucid, right? So let me ask you this. When you you partner with a Hollywood heavy, right? Does it actually, do we know whether that if and how that actually impacts your financials? Does that move cars? Do people say, you know what, I was on the fence, but then I saw Timmy and he just he swung me right over, right? Now, now I'm in. Is that what happens? You know, I I think on a small level, maybe, but I think the big thing is that it's sort of having Timothy and his sort of presence and his uh, uh, uh visibility with like Gen Z, for instance, now attached to your brand. People start talking about it, say, did you see Chalamet now is is with Lucid cars, you know, something like that. Plus, Lucid is a green brand, an EV maker, an American brand, so you can see that tying in with with with Chalamet uh, who I understand is uh uh a very uh outspoken about environmental issues and things like that. So, I think that sort of works in everyone's favor there. I think that's why you're seeing this. But yeah, it definitely caught my eye, it was a little bit out of the blue, but you're seeing more and more celebrities, A-list celebrity. He's A-list, right? Doing stuff like this, and it's not seen as a black mark these days. What about, just finally, quickly, kind of just Lucid's place, Pras, in the broader EV market? How's it changing? How's it evolving? What's what's next for them? You know, they they came out and they did sort of the Tesla model. They came out the high end with the in their case, the Lucid Air sedan, you know, with the Model S that was a very high-end sedan for Tesla. Still is these days, you know, 80, 90, $100,000. So they came there at that level uh, at a very compelling product, high technology, great feature set. And now it's coming down, trickling down to more mainstream products. The gravity SUV will be a little bit cheaper, but more of an appeal to a broader set of people who want SUVs. And then they're going to go with what they call a mid-sized vehicle that's coming out in a few in a couple years, a more modestly priced, uh, you know, like think Rivian R2, right? That's supposed to be the big volume seller for them. Lucid will do that same thing. And so you have someone like Timothy on, I keep calling him Timothy, like we're buddies, but you know, Chalamet's there now to sort of, you know, bring more attention to that, highlight their cause. Uh, maybe he'll be seen driving more vehicles around. I think Chevy, for its ZR2, should think about partnering with Josh Lipton. I think could really I mean at least And then they just put it right back here. Midnight edition. It's just an idea I'm putting out there for Chevy. It's just something to consider. And then every so you can just put your glasses on, drive off. Perfect. That's good television. Thank you, Pras.
