Episode 6
Episode 6 of Dear Hongrang begins with Gyu-ha warning Hong-rang about Kkot-nim's kill order. He rationalises that the marriage will keep Jae-yi safe and Hong-rang should leave her be.
However, Jae-yi tries to make a run for it. She is brought back by Yeon-ui's man, Yuk-son who threatens the sleuths.
5 days are left for the marriage when Mu-jin gets a note from Lady Ko. They can annul the marriage on the grounds that Choi Ju-yeol is still married to her. Ko plans to show up in the middle of the ceremony.
It is D-Day and the ceremony begins. Mu-jin's men cannot find Lady Ko and Jae-yi looks scared as the ceremony ends. Seeing her fear, Hong-rang feels guilty. He is the one who sent Mu-jin the note and helped Lady Ko run away. On top of that, Hong-rang learns that Yeon-ui plans to kill Jae-yi, blame it on Ju-yeol and take his land as a prenup violation.
While Mu-jin and his men frantically try to stop the consummation, Yeon-ui's assassin drugs Jae-yi and attacks her. Hong-rang kills the assassin and hides her. She comes around but her vision is hazy. She holds his hand and he kisses her.
Outside, Mu-jin confronts Ju-yeol when he finds Jae-yi missing. Before it can get worse, Yeol-guk reveals his hand. He brings in Lady Ko who exposes the Chois. The marriage is annulled as Ju-yeol has a living wife.
Jae-yi is still missing and Mu-jin suspects Hong-rang. However, Hong-rang pretends to be drunk in his room. Alone, In-hoe confronts him. He looks sad when Hong-rang confesses that he has fallen for Jae-yi.
The next morning Mu-jin finds a confused Jae-yi in her room and recounts last night's events. She looks troubled as the drunk Hong-rang story doesn't match her hazy memory of kissing him.
Meanwhile, Hong-rang begs Kkot-nim to leave Jae-yi alone. He will do his part and get her the Min Guild's partition deed. But she believes Jae-yi will betray him like Yeol-guk betrayed her.
As for Yeol-guk, he is surprised when Mun Gyu-ha proposes an alliance. It is revealed that the Sims were a poor family and Yeol-guk meant to use the Min wealth to run away with Kkot-nim. Gyu-ha pretends to sympathise and claims they have to take down the real enemy – Yeon-ui.
Back home, Jae-yi confronts Hong-rang about the kiss. She hopes it is a dream, as she will be in pain if it turns out to be real. He assures her that it was a dream but he looks sad.
Feeling bitter, he focuses on Kkot-nim's plan. He hints to Yeon-ui that Yeol-guk is having an affair and she has Yuk-son follow him. It is bad timing for the Sims as Yeol-guk creates a secret guild under his name. He signs Mu-jin on as the guildmaster and shares his plan to transfer their assets to the new guild.
As part of the plan, the royal registry gives the Min Guild's position to the Muns. Yeon-ui is upset and Yeol-guk swoops in with a solution to partner with the Muns. But once he leaves, Yuk-son updates her that Yeol-guk is secretly meeting with Mun Gyu-ha, Kkot-nim's brother. She puts two and two together and is furious.
Meanwhile, Mu-jin is pleasantly surprised as Jae-yi starts avoiding Hong-rang. But he happens upon her sketchbook which is filled with sketches of (fake) Hong-rang. Looks like he just cannot catch a break as Yuk-son follows Mu-jin's men while they hide guild assets at the Min silver mine. Yuk-son sets off a bomb which kills most of the men.
At the end of Dear Hongrang Episode 6, Yeon-ui accuses Mu-jin of illegal sulfur trade, the miners' casualties and embezzling from the Min Guild to his own Sim Guild. Yeol-guk tries to stop her but she gives him a choice – to send Mu-jin to the magistrate or to quietly deal with it. He lets Yeon-ui hold Mu-jin captive.
The Episode Review
Dear Hongrang Episode 6 is a busy chapter as it deals with the Ju-yeol marriage, causes a rift between Hong-rang and Jae-yi, has Gyu-ha entrapping Yeol-guk and Yeon-ui taking out her anger on Mu-jin. It feels like a movie with constant action and plot progression.
Even the filler scenes add to the story or aid in character development, such as Mu-jin being pushed to the dark side as his father abandons him and Jae-yi falls for Hong-rang. Then there is Jae-yi who is conflicted by the kiss as she now believes that Hong-rang is her brother. It may feel icky to viewers as Jae-yi believes she is living in Game of Thrones, attracted to her brother. Honestly, the K-drama could have easily kept the same story, stakes and suspense while getting rid of the sibling factor.
Additionally, the narrative in this chapter is a little too convoluted in trying to weave an ambitious thriller involving several subconflicts and way too many characters. It feels disjointed and viewers are bound to get confused unless they rewatch the episode with a keen eye for every clue and misdirect.
The Evil Painter and Snow Man drama also seems to be sidelined for a majority of the episodes so far. Which is quite strange since it is supposed to be the main crux of the conflict that affects the two Hong-rangs.

Kohli closes in on long-awaited IPL title

Veteran Kohli is their leading scorer in the tournament but while Bengaluru have been criticised in the past for ignoring team balance and packing the side with marquee players they have finally clicked as a team this season. "It's a better balanced side, far better balanced side," former Australia player Tom Moody, who has coached Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, told ESPNcricinfo website. "It's not top heavy. There's opportunities for other players to have an impact in the game, whereas previously, you look at RCB and it was always the top three and then you're concerned about what follows that." Bengaluru were reinforced by Josh Hazlewood's return from a shoulder injury ahead of the playoff and he had an immediate impact as they dismantled Punjab for 101 on Thursday.
