Jaren Jackson needs procedure — one day after agreeing to $240M Grizzlies contract extension
Jackson, 25, sustained a turf toe injury in his right foot while playing in a 'live basketball run' away from the Grizzlies' facility, the team said in a release.
An evaluation on Monday revealed that it would require a procedure to repair it.

'An update and preliminary timeline will be provided following the procedure, but Jackson Jr. is expected to make a full recovery,' the Grizzlies said.
Jackson is a crucial part of the Grizzlies' roster, and losing him for any period of time will likely hurt Memphis, which is already planning on starting the 2025-26 season without Zach Edey after he underwent a procedure on his left ankle.

Jackson, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, is viewed highly by the Grizzlies, who included a player option for the 2029-30 season in his new deal.
He will be one of the franchise's leaders — along with Ja Morant — going forward.
Jackson had averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game last season and has made two NBA All-Star appearances in his seven seasons with the Grizzlies, who drafted him with the fourth overall pick in 2018.
ESPN's Shams Charania broke the news of Jackson's newly renegotiated and extended contract on Monday evening.

Jackson was entering the final year of his current contract with the Grizzlies this upcoming season.
The Grizzlies are coming off a 2024-25 season in which they went 48-34 for a second-place finish in the Southwest Division before getting swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Thunder.

The young quarterback's agent, Deiric Jackson, spoke to ESPN on Tuesday after Jones was named the team's starting signal-caller, and he didn't sound happy, to say the least. While there are plenty of football fans eager to see Jackson back on the gridiron, some people have changed their tune due to his social media activity. Earlier this week, Jackson shared the following message from Charlie Kirk: "It's all about Jesus." In case you're unfamiliar with his work, Kirk is the founder of a conservative student organization called Turning Point USA. He visits college campuses around the country to discuss political issues. He played a big role in helping Donald Trump's presidential campaign in 2024.
