Uttarakhand Cabinet approves amendment in Biotechnology Council's departmental structure
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 11 (ANI): In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, many important decisions were taken, including the approval of an amendment to the departmental structure of the Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council, said a press statement from the CMO Monday.
The Haldwani Headquarters and Dehradun Centre posts will be kept in the integrated cadre.
Approval has been given for creating 18 new Geology and Mining Department posts to deal with incidents like land subsidence. It has been decided to issue the final notification of flood plain zoning on both banks of the Asan River (from Bhatta Fall to Asan Barrage) and to include some construction works in the permissible category.
UIIDB has been entrusted with monetising the operation of 5 inspection buildings (Ranikhet, Uttarkashi, Duggalbitta, Harshil, and Rishikesh) of the Public Works Department in PPP mode. The formation of the Uttarakhand State Allied and Healthcare Council has been approved under the National Allied and Healthcare Professions Commission Act 2021.
The cabinet has decided to operate the fund from the cess on foreign liquor/beer under the Chief Minister's Women and Child Multipurpose Assistance Fund (Corpus Fund). It will be used for assistance in schemes run for women and children, the operation of innovative schemes, and support to orphaned children, destitute people, and old women in disaster.
Earlier, the Central Government has approved the project at a cost of Rs 720.67 crore for the improvement work of Dehradun-Lal Tappar-Nepali Farm section of National Highway-7 and Nepali Farm-Motichur section (total length 36.82 km) of National Highway-34, taking an important step regarding road connectivity and traffic safety in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand.
CM Dhami has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari for this important approval. He said that this project will not only ensure fast and safe traffic between Dehradun, Haridwar and Rishikesh, but will also make the Chardham Yatra route more accessible and smooth.
The main objective of this project is to comprehensively improve road safety by grade separation at the existing busy junctions and separating local traffic from the main road traffic.
Under this, additional service roads will also be constructed, reducing accidents and traffic pressure. CM Dhami said that under the leadership of PM Modi, infrastructure is developing rapidly in Uttarakhand, and this project is another strong step towards the development of the state. (ANI)

Rs 160 crore down the drain as Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah 2015 caste report (Photo: ANI) BENGALURU: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Thursday said his cabinet has decided to commission a fresh socio-educational survey since the 2015 survey conducted by then Karnataka State Commission for Backwards Classes chairman H Kantharaju had lapsed as it is 10 years old. The CM's remarks come a day after he stood by the 2015 survey, also called the caste census, saying: "We won't reject the report." On Thursday, after a cabinet meeting, he said: "This decision is in accordance with Section 11(2) of Karnataka State Commission for Backwards Classes Act, 1995, which empowers the state government to commission socio-educational surveys once in 10 years." He did not announce the fresh survey's launch date. Thursday's meeting was convened to discuss the 2015 report, which was submitted in February 2024. "We couldn't discuss the report then because of the 2024 general elections," he said. Responding to the criticism, his government scrapped the Kantharaju report, on which it spent Rs 160 crore, owing to the high command's pressure. CM said he obliged all stakeholders, including the high command. The decision for a fresh census was taken after the Congress high command on Wednesday directed CM and his deputy to conduct a fresh enumeration.

ACB lens on Irrigation Dept as skeletons tumble out of closet
Hyderabad: The Irrigation Department in Telangana has come under intense scrutiny recently, following a surge in corruption cases against its officials. Frequent arrests of Irrigation engineers over the past three months related to disproportionate assets and bribery have cast serious doubts on the efficacy and integrity of personnel within the department. Most of the arrested corrupt officials are reported to have amassed assets worth no less than Rs 100 crore. In the latest case concerning disproportionate assets, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Executive Engineer N Sridhar. Searches were conducted at multiple locations, including his residence and those of his relatives, in connection with allegations of acquiring illicit wealth. The corrupt official was found to own villas, luxury apartments, and expensive open plots in Hyderabad. ACB officials revealed that they have been receiving numerous complaints against Irrigation officials, alleging demands for bribes to clear pending bills from contractors. Many of the irrigation engineers, who possess the authority to approve project works and finalise executing agencies, are currently facing corruption allegations within the department. ACB sleuths meticulously analysed Sridhar's track record before conducting searches to uncover assets amassed through illegal means throughout his career as an engineer. The market value of these disproportionate assets is estimated to exceed Rs 200 crore. In recent times, the ACB also apprehended Assistant Engineer Nikesh Kumar from the Irrigation Department, unearthing assets valued at an estimated Rs 150 crore during raids at his residence and other locations. Nikesh allegedly colluded with contractors and undertook works under 'benami' (proxy) names. The sheer scale of his exploitation of official position stunned the entire department. The arrest of Executive Engineer Arram Reddy Amarender Reddy, who was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000, further astonished irrigation officials. Such direct apprehension of irrigation officials by the Anti Corruption Bureau for accepting bribes has been rare in recent years. Top officials have indicated that the Irrigation Secretary is currently reviewing the performance of department personnel. A particular focus is on the long tenure of officials in single posts within the same office, which is believed to be a primary reason for them developing extensive networks with agencies and subsequently exploiting their positions for illicit gain.
