Whole Foods and other U.S. grocers are only being partially stocked as a major food distributor continues to grapple with a recent cyber attack, a recent earnings call revealed.
North American wholesale distributor United Natural Foods confirmed this week that it was forced to take some of its systems offline after noticing unauthorized activity. At a financial quarter meeting Tuesday, June 10, CEO Sandy Douglas said the wholesale distributor is only supplying customers on a "limited basis" amid the crisis.
"We are partnering with customers across the country and across our formats in various short term mode to serve their needs as best as we possibly can," Douglas told investors. "Any way that we can help them meet their needs, we're doing."
The company is working with the FBI and other authorities to determine how to resume services and why the technology defenses failed, according to Douglas.
"We just got penetrated, so we will be continuing to look at every aspect of our defense, every aspect of how our tools are working, and what may be necessary to bolster it going forward, because it's clearly an area that requires a tremendous amount of focus from companies today," he said.
Users on social media have reported shelves being empty at some Whole Foods locations with signs apologizing for the inconvenience and promising to resupply soon.
A Whole Foods spokesperson told USA TODAY on Monday, June 9 that the supermarket chain is working to restock its shelves as fast as possible and said it apologizes for any inconveniences.
CEO says it informed investors as soon as it could
When asked why the company hesitated to inform investors about the cyberattack and system shutdown, Douglas denied there being a delay.
Douglas clarified company officials noticed unauthorized activity in its systems on June 5 and investigated whether it was isolated. By the afternoon of June 6, the company made the decision to lock its systems down. On June 9, it filed a Form 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to inform shareholders before the market opened.
"So there is no way that we could have communicated any faster, and there was no trading," Douglas added.
He also he was unable to confirm whether the shutdown has required customers to break contracts, adding "I wouldn't be able to factually answer that question, even if I was inclined to disclose it."
"The focus is making sure we serve the customers and have them be able to do whatever they need to do the best they can in this environment," he said.

Starbucks CEO pushes 'Green Apron' service changes to all North American stores by summer

Starbucks CEO pushes 'Green Apron' service changes to all North American stores by summer Show Caption Hide Caption See the winner of Starbucks' first-ever barista championship Starbucks hosted the inaugural Global Barista Championship in Las Vegas featuring baristas from around the world. Starbucks SBUX.O CEO Brian Niccol told Reuters on Tuesday that he would accelerate the rollout of the coffeehouse chain's new staffing and service model, aiming for all North American stores by summer's end, rather than the initial plan for just a third of U.S. stores by fiscal year-end. The plan applies to the more than 11,000 company-owned stores in North America, rather than the roughly 18,000 combined company-owned and licensed stores, Starbucks said. Niccol says the model is a foundational element of his turnaround strategy for the company, as he bets on an improved in-store customer experience to reclaim the sales growth that has eluded Starbucks in recent quarters. Niccol said early tests of the model have sped up service times and grown sales, without providing specifics. 'We've learned, and now we know what we need to do, so let's scale it,' he told Reuters at the company's three-day leadership summit in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The Green Apron model includes in-store technology to more efficiently sequence orders, as well as a dedicated barista for drive-through orders. Starbucks rolled out the service changes to 700 stores initially. During the company's April 29 quarterly earnings call, Niccol said it would be introduced in a third of U.S. stores by fiscal year-end. Niccol took over as Starbucks CEO in September with a plan to return the chain to its coffeehouse roots, focusing on the in-store experience and away from a reliance on mobile and to-go orders, in what the company calls "Back to Starbucks.' The goal is to get baristas to get customers their orders in four minutes or less. He did not share any financial figures about the cost of the Green Apron model's deployment, but said the company would host an investor day in 2026. The Las Vegas summit, the company's first since 2019, is hosting more than 14,000 managers and other company leaders. Analysts and investors have wondered how long Niccol will need to turn the company around. Shares have gained 11% over the last five years, compared with an 88% rise in the broad-market S&P 500. TD Cowen recently downgraded its rating of Starbucks to "hold" from "buy", saying in part that it believed Niccol's turnaround would take longer than expected to deliver results. Niccol said the transition will take time. Starbucks has not issued annual guidance, and Niccol told investors in an earnings call earlier this year that earnings-per-share 'shouldn't be used as a measure of our success' at this stage, instead pointing to in-store metrics like average wait times for orders. He said the transition's effect on earnings would be temporary. On Tuesday, he emphasized his goal isn't to achieve short-term performance solely through cost reduction. As Starbucks increases investments in its labor and elsewhere, Niccol said he would be "ruthless" in cutting expenses not related to the company's turnaround. 'We have to be critical of where we're spending if it's not driving toward the Back to Starbucks strategy and growth programs.' Reporting by Waylon Cunningham; Editing by Lisa Shumaker

Cyberattack disrupts Twin Cities grocery supply; Cub Pharmacies back online

Cyberattack disrupts Twin Cities grocery supply; Cub Pharmacies back online originally appeared on Bring Me The News. A cyberattack on United Natural Foods (UNFI), discovered late last week, has had a cascading effect on the company's grocery stores, which include Cub Foods, as well as stores that rely on UNFI for deliveries, including Whole Foods, Kowalski's, and Lunds & Byerlys in Minnesota. More than 30,000 total locations across North America rely on UNFI as a supplier, which has resulted in reports of delayed deliveries, impacting grocery store inventories. Tech Crunch reports Whole Foods employees were informed that what UNFI has described as a "cyber incident" would impact its normal delivery schedule and product availability. At Cub Foods, which was acquired by UNFI in 2018, it has meant many of its pharmacies were taken offline, unable to fill new and refill prescriptions. "Over the past few days, several of our Cub Pharmacies were unable to fulfill some of our customers' needs due to an incident that caused temporary disruptions to our business operations," a UNFI spokesperson tells Bring Me The News. However, as of June 12, the company says all of its pharmacies are back online and filling prescriptions. The interruption in service took place after UNFI took some systems offline to combat the hack, according to multiple reports. "We continue working steadily to safely restore our systems and provide the services our customers and suppliers know and expect from us," the UNFI spokesperson says. Meanwhile, systems for ordering and receiving are "gradually" being brought back online as of June 12, "with the goal of further increasing our capacity over the coming days." In the meantime, Lunds & Byerlys is working to "secure alternative sources for products typically supplied by UNFI," the company says in a statement. "While we anticipate some temporary product shortages, the impact will primarily be limited to select items in grocery, frozen and dairy as the majority of our produce, meat, seafood, deli and bakery offerings are produced in-house or sourced from other suppliers." A Whole Foods spokesperson tells Bring Me The News that it is working to restock shelves as quickly as possible, apologizing for the inconvenience any shortages may have caused customers. The Amazon-owned grocery chain has not detailed how widespread the shortages have been. UNFI says it has been investigating the incident with forensic experts. However, it has not disclosed the nature of the cyberattack and whether customer data was accessed. It has also not commented on the extent of the impact on its food deliveries, the number of stores affected, or the potential costs for the story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 12, 2025, where it first appeared.

IEH Corporation Files Form 10-K for Fiscal Year Ended March 31, 2025

BROOKLYN, NY / / June 12, 2025 / IEH Corporation (OTC PINK:IEHC) today filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) its Annual Report on Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025. Highlights include: 34% Increase in Revenue over Fiscal Year 2024 $4.34M Improvement in Operating Income 72% increase in cash on hand, compared to prior year For the Fiscal Year ended March 31, 2025, IEH had revenues of $28,783,861 as compared to $21,524,544 for the Fiscal Year ended March 31, 2024 reflecting a 33.7% increase; operating income of $574,862 for Fiscal Year 2025 as compared to an operating loss of $3,760,887 for Fiscal Year 2024 reflecting a $4,335,749 improvement; net income of $999,038 for Fiscal Year 2025 as compared to a net loss of $2,916,902 for Fiscal Year 2024 reflecting a $3,915,940 improvement; and a basic earnings per share of $.42 as compared to a basic loss per share of $1.23 for Fiscal Year 2024. Dave Offerman, President and CEO of IEH Corporation commented, "By almost any discernible metric, IEH's financial health has improved considerably this past year. Our revenue was 3rd-highest in our history, our cash position has improved dramatically since this time last year, inventory relative to revenue is down, and we were profitable in both operating and net income. Our margins continue to be lower than desired due to the rise in our material costs, but price adjustments implemented over the last several months will bolster our gross margins going forward and be reflected in future financial statements. After declining for several months, our backlog has stabilized, and our sales pipeline remains strong. Changes in the competitive landscape offer opportunities to win market share, and we continue to intensify our marketing efforts to target new industries for our signature Hyperboloid products. As previously noted, growth and improvements may still be uneven from one quarter to the next while the commercial aircraft industry continues to produce below their target levels, but our long-term forecasts for that sector, along with strong growth projections in our defense-related business and commercial space launch bode well for IEH in the years ahead. So while it's possible that revenue in Fiscal Year 2026 will be slightly lower than 2025, the overall strength of our sales pipeline, along with efforts underway to improve our product mix and diversify our markets served, should lead to considerable long-term growth. On behalf of the management team and staff of IEH, we again wish to express our sincere gratitude for the support of our valued shareholders. We look forward to sharing more positive news in the coming months and quarters."
