Indian Navy participates in Passage Exercise with UK Carrier Strike Group in the North Arabian Sea
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): The Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tabar, submarine and P8I aircraft participated in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) in the North Arabian Sea on June 9 and 10, 2025. The exercise was conducted with the UK Carrier Strike Group, comprising HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Richmond, the Indian Navy said in a statement.
The multi-faceted naval exercise included unified control of integral helicopters, tactical manoeuvres, coordinated anti-submarine operations and professional exchange of officers.
The joint exercise demonstrates the deepening cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy, showcasing a shared commitment to maritime security and robust bilateral ties.
This collaboration underscores the strong relationship between the two navies and their dedication to maintaining a secure and stable maritime environment.
Earlier the Indian Navy delegation, led by Rear Admiral Shantanu Jha, NM, participated in the 10th Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks with the Royal Malaysian Navy held in Kuala Lumpur on June 10.
The Royal Malaysian Navy delegation was led by First Admiral Harisundar Rajoo, Senior Director, Operations and Training. During the talks, both sides discussed ongoing bilateral naval engagements and outlined plans for future collaborative activities.

In parallel to the naval dialogue in Kuala Lumpur, India also expanded its diplomatic outreach in the region. Secretary (East) P Kumaran met Permanent Secretary, Brunei Darussalam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hajah Johariah Binti Abdul Wahab, on the sidelines of East Asia Summit Senior Officials' Meeting (EAS SOM) in Malaysia's Penang on Tuesday. Gandhinagar: Rushab Rupani, son of Vijay Rupani arrives at father's residence
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Rushab Rupani, son of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Rupani, arrived at his father's residence in Gandhinagar on Saturday. Vijay Rupani was one of the 241 passengers who lost his life in the tragic crash of the Air India flight 171, a London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, on Thursday. Vijay Rupani was a two-time Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021. Rupani was also appointed the BJP's in-charge for Punjab. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Vijay Rupani, calling his death 'hard to believe.' In a post on X, Amit Shah wrote, 'I worked for a long time in the organisation with former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani ji. Whether it was strengthening the organisation as the state president or keeping Gujarat's development journey moving as the Chief Minister, Vijaybhai fulfilled every responsibility with full responsibility. It is difficult to believe that he is no longer amongst us.' Shah remembered Rupani as a dedicated leader who always worked with discipline and commitment toward the growth of the party and the state. Shah, who worked closely with Rupani during this period, highlighted his disciplined work ethic and loyalty to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). 'Calm and thoughtful by nature, Rupani ji's loyalty and discipline towards the organisation were amazing,' Shah said in his tribute. Amit Shah also shared a personal memory from his last meeting with Rupani. 'I met him a few days ago and had a detailed discussion on various topics related to the organisation in Punjab,' he wrote. Shah expressed his condolences to the family, saying, 'I spoke to his wife, Mrs. Anjali Rupani ji and expressed my deepest condolences. The entire BJP family stands with them in this hour of grief. Government forms high-level committee to probe Air India crash, report to be submitted in 3 months
New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): The government has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee for examing the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, that left 241 people dead. 'A High Level Multi-disciplinary Committee is constituted for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London) on June 12, 2025. The Committee will examine the existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and handle such occurrences and suggest comprehensive guidelines for dealing with such instances in the future,' an order issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry read. 'The Committee will not be a substitute for other enquiries being conducted by relevant organisations but will focus on formulating SOPs for preventing and handling such occurrences in the future,' the order clarified. 'The committee will have access to all records, including, among others, flight data, cockpit voice recorders, aircraft maintenance records, ATC Log and witness testimonies,' it stated, adding that the committee will publish its report within three months. It said that the Committee will be headed by the Home Secretary and will include representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Indian Air Force and Aviation experts. The committee will assess the emergency response of the various stakeholders, including rescue operations and coordination among them. It will also suggest policy changes, operational improvements and training enhancements required to prevent such occurrences and handle post-crash incident situations. Stating the objective of constituting the committee, the order said that it was formed to ascertain the root cause of the crash. It also said that the committee will recommend necessary improvements and formulate suitable SOPs to prevent such incidents in the future. These SOPs will also include international best practices regarding preventing and handling such incidents. The order issued at around 12.40 am on Saturday said that the committee will assess the emergency response of various stakeholders (both Central and State Governments), including rescue operations, and coordination among them. 'The Committee will examine existing guidelines regarding handling such incidents. and go through records of previous such aircraft crashes in the country,' it read. It also stated that it will also formulate a comprehensive SOP and suggest the roles of all agencies and organisations of the central and state governments to deal with post-crash incident handling and management. As per the order, the Committee will consist of Home Secretary and secretary or joint secretary of the home affairs ministry, secretary of Civil aviation, representative from the Gujarat home department, representative from the state disaster response authority, police commissioner of Ahmedabad, the Director General (DG), Inspection and Safety of the Indian Air Force, DG of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, DG of the aviation regulator- the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, special director of Intelligence Bureau (IB), Director of Directorate of Forensic Science Services. The order stated that the committee may also consist of any other member as deemed fit by the committee, including aviation experts, accident investigators and legal advisors may also be included by the committee. It will conduct site inspections, interview the crew, Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) and relevant personnel. The government said that the committee will collaborate with international agencies if foreign nationals or aircraft manufacturers are involved. The AI-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport on Thursday. The airline said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. The Tata group-owned airline has set up a dedicated passenger hotline number, 1800 5691 444, to provide more information. Those calling from outside India can call +91 8062779200. We are waiting for an elected government in Bangladesh, says BGMEA President
Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 14 (ANI): Bangladesh's business community and the investors are waiting for an elected government to take their decisions, said Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), late on Friday. 'We, the business people, want a permanent government. During an interim government, the investors do not want to invest,' Babu told ANI in an interview. 'By definition, this government is interim. Everybody knows, for the time being, they have come after the situation of the July uprising and revolution (last year). This government has taken some good initiatives in terms of banking reforms, control of looting and mismanagement of the Banking sector. But if you say, in terms of investment, the investors or the businesses are waiting for the elected government,' he said. 'Normally, we business people would like to have a permanent government, and then we would like to see who is coming for the policy and activities; Investment will depend on that situation. Normally, during an interim government, investors do not want to invest. They keep them in a position of wait and see,' the BGMEA President said. 'I hope shortly, there will be an election. That election has to be a credible, fair election so the people can give their verdict. After a new government, the investment situation will improve,' he said. 'Business people and the investors are looking for an election, and sooner the better,' he added. 'Shutdowns of factories are happening. BGMEA has seven thousand plus members. Now, only 3,000 factories are exporting goods means they are in operation. So, 4,000 factories have already been eliminated for different reasons. Due to their inefficiency, natural calamities, man-made calamities like political situations or infrastructure reasons like problems in the ports or electricity or energy, different reasons. In this moment, we are facing challenges for the issues of energy that gas and electricity and inflation. We are waiting for an elected government,' he said. 'Relations between Indian and Bangladeshi people are very good and very cordial. Especially in West Bengal and Bangladesh, we have some common cultural things. But the problem is that when the government changes on both sides, the situation also changes. Sometimes very much cordial, sometimes one-sided love and sometimes it is a resentful situation. It depends on the government in India or the government in Bangladesh,' Babu said. 'We would like to see friendly relations with dignity. We should respect each other. If the relations between the governments level are cordial, it would be the best because both countries will benefit. Business between India and Bangladesh is huge. It is not for political relations but for necessity. So, if the relations between India and Bangladesh are cordial, that would be good,' he said. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, has hinted at holding national elections in early February next year. Many are considering the London meeting between Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman as a game changer for Bangladeshi politics. Right now, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's BNP is the largest Political Party in Bangladesh, as Sheikh Hasina's Awami League is banned from running. Tarique Rahman, the son of Khaleda Zia, seems set to return soon to Bangladesh after 16 years in exile in London. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in a student-led uprising in August last year. She is now living in India in self-imposed exile. After Sheikh Hasina's fall, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Laureate. (ANI)
