NEW YORK — The United Nations General Assembly has elected Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Wasel as one of the vice presidents of the General Assembly's 80th session, representing the Asian Group.
Al-Wasel is regarded as one of the most distinguished Saudi diplomats, with an extensive professional track record in representing Saudi Arabia at numerous regional and international forums. Through his various positions, he continues to contribute to boosting the Kingdom's presence in international organizations.
This appointment reflects the Kingdom's commitment to enhancing its active engagement within the UN ecosystem and supporting its efforts to address global challenges and achieve sustainable development in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.

Pilgrims begin stoning Jamrat al-Aqaba in Mina
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — Pilgrims began arriving in Mina to perform the ritual of stoning the Jamarat at dawn on Friday. Pilgrims flowed to the Jamrat al-Aqaba (the biggest of the three Jamarat) utlizing all security and service capabilities from the time they began leaving Muzdalifah early Friday until their arrival at the Jamarat Bridge. The relevant authorities have allocated multiple paths to distribute the crowds to ensure the smooth flow of pilgrims across the various floors of the Jamarat facility. The facility was constructed in an engineering marvel that took into account the distribution of the crowd density during the stoning ritual. The bridge is connected to various pedestrian bridges leading to the Mashaer train and the areas surrounding the pilgrim camps in Mina. The pilgrims stoned the Jamarat Bridge with all security, health, ambulance and civil defense services in place, along with security personnel regulating the movement of pilgrims in the Jamarat Bridge courtyards and at its entrances and exits. The movement of pilgrims toward the Jamarat Bridge and the surrounding areas was characterized by a gradual and safe flow in batches, distributed according to the prepared schedule. The return to their camps after the stoning was smooth with the movement of cars and pilgrims on the roads in Mina were characterized by a general flexibility. After the pilgrims finish throwing stones at the Jamrat al-Aqaba, they move on to perform the other important and obligatory rituals of the Hajj on the day, starting with slaughtering the sacrificial animals, shaving the heads by men pilgrims, tawaf al-ifadah (the circling of the Sacred House) and walking (saii) between the mounts of Safa and Marwa.

Saudi Crown Prince Arrives in Mina to Oversee Hajj Services
On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Mina on Thursday to supervise the comfort and services provided to pilgrims during Hajj. He also ensures the pilgrims perform their rituals with ease, safety, and security. Pilgrims from around the world gathered at Mount Arafat on Thursday to perform the pivotal ritual of standing at Arafat, known as the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage. Saudi Arabia announced that over 1.5 million pilgrims from outside the Kingdom have arrived to perform Hajj this year. Ghassan Al-Naqmi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, shared the approximate number of foreign pilgrims, without disclosing the number of domestic pilgrims. Meanwhile, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Supreme Hajj Committee, reviewed the readiness of the Special Emergency Forces participating in this year's Hajj security operations. According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), he received a briefing from Lt. Gen. Mohammed bin Maqbool Al-Omari, commander of the Special Emergency Forces, who detailed the force's role in crowd control and the organized stoning ritual at the Jamarat site, as well as their broader mission in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of pilgrims.
