Taylor Swift reveals details of The Life of a Showgirl ahead of October release: ‘Infectiously joyful and wild'
The singer shared the cover and track listing for The Life of a Showgirl on Wednesday night, timed for her appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast New Heights, which he hosts with his brother and fellow professional footballer Jason.
The Life of a Showgirl has 12 tracks – a nod to this being her 12th album – and includes a cover of George Michael's 1987 song Father Figure.
Swift told the Kelce brothers that the album is inspired by her two years on the road for her global Eras tour, which became the first billion-dollar tour in history and ended up making more than US$2bn over 21 months.
'This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. And it comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life, so that effervescence has come through on this record. So as you said, bangers,' she said.
Unlike her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, she would not be dropping a second surprise album right after, she said. 'There are no other songs coming … with Tortured Poets Department, I was like 'Here is a data dump of everything I have thought, felt, experienced in two or three years. Here's 31 songs.' This is 12. There's not other ones coming. This is the record I've been wanting to make for a very long time.'
The track listing is:
The Fate of Ophelia
Elizabeth Taylor
Opalite
Father Figure
Eldest Daughter
Ruin the Friendship
Actually Romantic
Wi$h Li$t
Wood
Cancelled!
Honey
The Life of a Showgirl featuring Sabrina Carpenter

The album marks the return of Max Martin and Shellback, the Swedish producers who worked on Swift's albums Red, 1989 and Reputation.
Fans have long speculated that her next songs will draw on Swift's relationship with Travis Kelce, which they revealed publicly in 2023.
Swift is known for dropping hints and clues for her fans ahead of album announcements and her 12th album was no different. On Monday night on Instagram, Taylor Nation – a branch of Swift's official marketing team – shared a carousel of 12 images from the Eras Tour, writing in the caption: 'Thinking about when she said 'See you next era … '' Soon after, a countdown to 12.12am eastern time on 12 August appeared on her website, which was transformed to a glittering orange.
At 12.12am Swift's website briefly crashed, before reappearing with scant details about The Life of a Showgirl.
The 35-year-old is among the world's bestselling musicians, selling an estimated 200m records globally, and she holds the record for most No 1 albums in the US by a female artist in history.
Her last album, 2024's The Tortured Poets Department, set a streaming record on Spotify – 300m in one day and 1bn in five – and made her the first artist in history to secure the top 14 spots on the Billboard Hot 100.

'Ketamine Queen' accused of selling fatal dose to Matthew Perry agrees to plead guilty
A woman known as the 'Ketamine Queen,' charged with selling Matthew Perry the drug that killed him, agreed to plead guilty Monday. Jasveen Sangha becomes the fifth and final defendant charged in the overdose death of the 'Friends' star to strike a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Having initially pleaded not guilty, her change of plea means she'll avoid a trial that had been planned for August. Prosecutors had cast Sangha as a prolific drug dealer who was known to her customers as the 'Ketamine Queen,' using the term often in press releases and court documents and even including it in the official name of the case. A federal indictment charged Sangha with one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine, one count of maintaining a drug-involved premises, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute ketamine and five counts of distribution of ketamine. Sangha will officially change her plea to guilty at an upcoming hearing, where sentencing will be scheduled, prosecutors said. She could get up to 45 years in prison. She and Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who signed his own plea deal June 16, had been the primary targets of the investigation. Three other defendants — Dr. Mark Chavez, Kenneth Iwamasa and Erik Fleming — agreed to plead guilty last year in exchange for their cooperation, which included statements implicating Sangha and Plasencia. Perry was found dead in his Los Angeles home by Iwamasa, his assistant, on Oct. 28, 2023. The medical examiner ruled that ketamine, typically used as a surgical anesthetic, was the primary cause of death. The actor had been using the drug through his regular doctor as a legal, but off-label, treatment for depression, which has become increasingly common. Perry, 54, sought more ketamine than his doctor would give him. He began getting it from Plasencia about a month before his death, then started getting still more from Sangha about two weeks before his death, prosecutors said. Perry and Iwamasa found Sangha through Perry's friend Fleming. In their plea agreements, both men described the subsequent deals in detail. Fleming messaged Iwamasa saying Sangha's ketamine was 'unmarked but it's amazing,' according to court documents. Fleming texted Iwamasa that she only deals 'with high end and celebs. If it were not great stuff she'd lose her business.' With the two men acting as middlemen, Perry bought large amounts of ketamine from Sangha, including 25 vials for $6,000 in cash four days before his death. That purchase included the doses that killed Perry, prosecutors said. On the day of Perry's death, Sangha told Fleming they should delete all the messages they had sent each other, according to her indictment. Her home in North Hollywood, California, was raided in March 2024 by Drug Enforcement Administration agents who found large amounts of methamphetamines and ketamine, according to an affidavit from an agent. She was indicted that June, arrested that August and has been held in jail since. None of the defendants has yet been sentenced. Perry struggled with addiction for years, dating back to his time on ' Friends,' when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing. He starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004 on NBC's megahit series.

Jennifer Lawrence's 'intense' ex tried to get Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman to have a feud with each other
Black Swan director, Darren Aronofsky, admitted to trying to stoke a cutthroat rivalry between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman while filming their psychological thriller. Fifteen years after the release of their box office hit, which earned $329.4 million worldwide against a $13 million budget, the Academy Award nominee, 56, explained why he wanted the stars to feud during filming. 'My take is that I was trying to be a sneaky director and make them argue,' he told Vogue. 'Mila and Natalie both realized very quickly what I was doing and made fun of me, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood.' He continued: 'They're both very clever and were instantly privy to whatever trick I was playing.' Aronofsky went on to explain his goal was to help the actors get in character as they portrayed ballet dancers competing to play the lead role in a production of Swan Lake. 'I remember being separated from Mila and that we weren't in the same space a lot when we weren't shooting,' Portman, 44, recalled. Despite him trying to provoke her by praising Kunis' talent, Portman remembers telling him: 'She's so f**king talented and I love her so much and I'm happy she's doing a great job!' Meanwhile, Kunis revealed Aronofsky would tell her: 'Nat is working really, really hard. She's not even taking Saturdays and Sundays off.' 'Then I would text Nat and she'd be like, "…No, I'm not?" I think that's how we figured out what Darren was up to, but it was all in good fun,' the That '70s Show alum said. Regardless, the duo looked back fondly on their time on set with Aronofsky, who has a reputation for being intense, uncompromising and a perfectionist. 'Black Swan was the first time I felt like I had a mind meld with a director, where each of us always knew exactly what to say,' Portman praised. 'Every time we talked it felt like he gave me a little key that unlocked a scene for me.' When the cameras aren't rolling, Kunis described the director as 'actually a really kind, lovely guy' and said he took them to 'see Twilight one time' because they had the day off. 'Journalists were always so disappointed that he wasn't some tortured soul who treated us like garbage,' she mused. Following its release in 2010, Black Swan received five Academy Award nominations, which included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Film Editing. Portman earned her first Oscar for her critically acclaimed performance as Nina Sayers. Over his career, Aronofsky, who dated Jennifer Lawrence from September 2016 to November 2017, has been awarded a Golden Lion and a Primetime Emmy Award. Additionally, he's been nominated for an Academy Award, the Golden Globe Awards and the British Academy Film Awards. His biggest films include Mother! (2017), The Whale (2022), Noah (2014), The Wrestler (2008) and Requiem for a Dream (2000).

Nicolas Cage's son breaks silence on claims he assaulted his mom as he makes plans to tell his side of the story in new documentary
Nicolas Cage 's son, Weston Coppola Cage, is speaking out for the first time following the sentencing of his felony assault case in which he allegedly attacked his mom, Christina Fulton. Christina, the National Treasure actor's ex, accused her son of attacking her in April 2024 at her home in Los Angeles. He was later charged with two felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon - something he previously pleaded not guilty to. In April of this year, Weston, 34, was sentenced to a two-year mental health diversion program following a court hearing after a judge ruled that the incident was the product of a mental health crisis. The Wolf singer spoke exclusively with the Daily Mail on August 15 at the Future of Film Association's OPTIX Film Series in Las Vegas, sharing an update on how he's 'eliminated' people in his life and getting on with his recovery. 'You know, it's strengthened me. I can only give radical forgiveness,' he remarked. 'I've definitely been a target for a lot of misconception my whole life, but I know that only happens to people that are intimidated by the calling of [it].' When asked if there was anything he'd like to set the record straight on, he responded, 'Oh I will quite a bit.' He went on to reveal that he has a documentary in the works with the working title, 'The Beast of God.' 'I have a documentary in the works that'll tell my childhood story and it'll keep Xanax in business for sure for the people that watch it,' he teased. 'Right now, we're trying to call it the Beast of God.' He continued, explaining: 'I'm going to do a combination of biopic reenactments and then also just some one on one interviews with me and kind of how I've always stayed up on the spiritual path and that's the only thing that's really ever worked for me.' Weston revealed that he's had 'a lot of spiritual awakenings' recently, especially since tying the knot with his wife, Jenifer Alexa Canter, in Beverly Hills on April 25. The romantic wedding was attended by his famous father, Nicolas. The musician shared with the Daily Mail about how these past few months of newlywed bliss were going for him and the 33-year-old actress and model. 'It's been absolutely wonderful. Definitely some true alignment had to happen for me, you know, and a lot of spiritual awakenings and things like that. 'I just found that I was surrounded with a lot of people in my life that need to be eliminated,' he said. 'And once that happens, it's better than eliminating other things like bad habits, but it allows the universe to pour everything you're meant for into it.' Weston insisted that he and Jenifer stay strong as a couple and support each other by 'consistently believing in one another.' 'She's the most profound artist I've ever met. I told myself I would never manage someone until I met an artist that I found was so complex and dynamic that I would. 'So, I think she has a very bright future and you know I look forward to all the things that happen,' he gushed. In March, Weston announced his engagement to Jenifer nearly five months after going public with their romance on Instagram. He called her his 'first love, my only love and my last [love]' at the time. The pair shared a long history together ever since they, literally, were born. 'We were born in the same hospital, and I've loved her since I was a teenager. She is the love of my life, and I am committed to her forever,' he previously stated. Weston gushed about his wife to the Daily Mail: 'She's the most profound artist I've ever met. I told myself I would never manage someone until I met an artist that I found was so complex and dynamic that I would' Weston - who is the eldest child of Nicolas Cage - has been married three times in the past. Back in 2011, he tied the knot with first wife Nikki Williams but the two went their separate ways the next year. In 2013, he said 'I do' to Danielle Cage but the pair divorced in 2016. The former couple also welcomed two children named Lucian and Sorin. Weston then married Hila Cage Coppola in 2018 and the two share twins Venice and Cyress. Last year in July, their divorce was finalized. On August 15, Weston stepped out at Sahara Las Vegas to attend the opening night celebration of Future of Film Association's OPTIX Film Series, in which there was a red carpet for VIP guests and an advanced screening of Waltzing with Brando. He joined stars of the film: Billy Zane, John Heder, George Psarras and Tia Carrere. The Bill Fishman directed film, which premieres on September 19, tells the story of Marlon Brando (played by Zane) and his focus on ecotourism. He hires a Los Angeles architect (Heder) to build the world's first ecologically perfect retreat on a small, uninhabited island in Tahiti - where the movie was filmed in real life. Marlon Brando and Francis Ford Coppola, Weston's great uncle, had enormous respect for each other and starred together in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. 'Well, of course, I adore the chemistry that my great uncle and Brando had, so anything that has to do with that. Also I think [Brando's] a truly chameleonic actor even in an eternal sense as a thespian. 'You know it's not all disguised for him. He really changes his persona and stuff like that, so that he does is something I see as iconic and exemplary for any aspiring actors,' Weston told the Daily Mail about his interest in the film. It's been over a year since Weston was arrested for the incident with his mother. On April 2, his mother Christina, 58 - who dated Nicolas Cage from 1988 to 1990 - said during his sentencing hearing that she supported her son seeking rehabilitation rather than going to prison. Recalling the incident, she said, 'He shoved his thumb in my eye socket. The pain was excruciating. My vision went black. I was losing consciousness.' Her life was 'saved' after one of Weston's friends stopped by the apartment and pulled him off of her as he was 'crushing' and 'suffocating' her. 'Now I stand here, pleading for one thing: that he gets the help he deserves. Please help my son,' she told the court. Weston's lawyer told the court that Cage's son had already been seeking mental health treatment and wanted to continue prioritizing it. 'He hasn't felt this good in years. He's in a good head space, about to get married. He moved away from the location [he was] living in before and is definitely making progress,' attorney Michael A. Goldstein said. In addition to the mental health diversion program, Weston, per the judge, is 'prohibited from harassing his alleged victims and possessing any weapons for the next two years.' A dismissal of Weston's charges is pending until the conclusion of the two-year diversionary period.
