NexG plans to raise investment in Cambodia
KUALA LUMPUR: NexG Bhd plans to further increase its investment in Cambodia, particularly in the digital and logistics sectors, said its chief executive officer Datuk Hanifah Noordin.
This was expressed during his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on the sidelines of the 46th Asean Summit and Related Meetings here last week.
According to Hanifah, NexG is offering its expertise in the provision of high-security digital identity documents, while the logistics sector is being offered through MMAG Holdingd Bhd, in which NexG holds a 19 per cent stake.
Hanifah stated that his group's core operations lie in information and communication technology, with a specific focus on digital security.
He noted that MMAG is already involved in logistics services at the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport.
He added that the group plans to expand its operations and invest further in Cambodia's growing digital economy.
The prime minister praised NexG's vision and outlined the Cambodian government's strategic push to enhance the logistics sector through improvements to key infrastructure.
This includes the expansion of the Sihanoukville deep-sea port and the development of airports and road networks.
He also emphasised the government's priority on digital transformation during the 7th Legislature, describing it as a national priority aimed at modernising the economy and attracting foreign investment.
NexG said the prime minister encouraged all interested Malaysian firms to continue close cooperation with Cambodian institutions, emphasising his government's commitment to fostering a transparent and investor-friendly environment that supports long-term economic growth.
Lim Heng, vice president of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, told the Khmer Times that Cambodia's proactive investment promotion led by Hun Manet had been praised by business leaders following his recent engagement with potential investors during the Asean meetings in Malaysia.
"The prime minister consistently attracts investors. During the Asean meetings in Malaysia, many companies, especially representatives from various countries' chambers of commerce, brought potential investors to meet with the prime minister and received guidance on exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia," he said.
Heng added that such efforts reflect the leadership's commitment to nurturing a pro-investment climate.
"Meeting directly with companies that are still uncertain about Cambodia helps them gain a better understanding of the country and boosts their confidence to invest, especially with the pime minister's personal assurances," he said.

Yong noted that AI had transformed newsroom operations, enabling faster editing, personalised content delivery and more efficient workflows, especially among younger journalists who preferred AI-generated summaries over traditional face-to-face interviews. "Context, tone and human expression are irreplaceable. Only direct engagement captures the nuances that make a story resonate,' he emphasised. He warned that AI-generated visuals had become a new frontier of misinformation, citing several recent incidents in Malaysia and the region involving misleading or doctored imagery. These developments, Yong said, underscore the urgent need for rigorous verification protocols before publishing any content created or enhanced by AI. He emphasised that AI should be seen as a tool for empowerment, not a replacement for human creativity. Echoing these sentiments, Prof Dr Manjit Singh Sidhu, an expert from the College of Computing and Informatics at Universiti Tenaga Nasional, observed that Malaysian media organisations had been integrating AI at varying speeds, depending on their readiness and strategic focus. He said journalists who embraced change and learned to work with AI would not only survive the evolving landscape but also shape the future of trustworthy, meaningful journalism. He suggested news organisations develop and adhere to strict ethical frameworks when using AI, ensuring transparency in how the technology is applied throughout news production. To deepen media practitioners' knowledge of AI technology, Bernama has coordinated five AI training sessions, one each in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Sarawak, Sabah and the East Coast. Meanwhile, recognising the rapid pace of AI advancement, including in journalism, this year's National Journalist Day (Hawana) celebration adopted the theme Journalism in the New Era: Embracing AI, Safeguarding Ethics. When announcing the theme on Tuesday, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the rise of AI had rapidly transformed the gathering, processing and dissemination of information, but emphasised that it must not come at the expense of journalistic ethics. The Hawana 2025 celebration will be held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from June 13 to 15, with the highlight, its opening on June 14, scheduled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Palm slips on weaker rival edible oils, profit taking
JAKARTA: Malaysian palm oil futures extended losses on Thursday, snapping a two-session rally, tracking weaker rival edible oils at Chicago and Dalian markets, as well as profit taking actions. The benchmark palm oil contract for August delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange lost RM29, or 0.73 per cent, to RM3,919 (US$924.29) a metric ton by the midday break. "The palm oil futures were seen trading lower on profit taking, energy prices and weaknesses in related China and US vegetable oil markets," said Anilkumar Bagani, head of research at Mumbai-based vegetable oil broker Sunvin Group. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract fell 0.29 per cent, while its palm oil contract declined 0.91 per cent. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade were down 0.56 per cent. Palm oil tracks price movements of rival edible oils, as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. Oil prices slipped in early trade on Thursday after a build in US gasoline and diesel inventories and Saudi Arabia's cut to its July prices for Asian crude buyers. Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. Malaysia's palm oil inventories are projected to climb for a third consecutive month in May, driven by a modest recovery in production despite robust export demand, a Reuters survey showed on Wednesday. India's palm oil imports in May surged to a six-month high, as lower inventories and the tropical oil's discount to rival soyoil and sunflower oil prompted refiners to increase purchases. Independent inspection company AmSpec Agri Malaysia said exports of Malaysian palm oil products for May rose 13.2 per cent, while cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services saw a 17.9 per cent jump. Palm oil may break support at RM3,889 per metric ton and fall towards RM3,845, according to Reuters' technical analyst Wang Tao.

He highlighted several ASEAN-led mechanisms that have continued to be the cornerstone of the region's security and peace architecture, such as the ASEAN Regional Forum, East Asia Summit, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). Established in 1976, the TAC is a legally binding code for interstate relations in the region and beyond. As of October 2024, 55 countries are parties to the TAC while several others are also seeking to accede to the treaty. 'We are moving in the right direction.
