Alan Cumming finds healing as Nightcrawler in ‘Avengers: Doomsday'
Alan Cumming has described his return to the Marvel universe as both unexpected and healing. More than two decades after first portraying Nightcrawler in 2003's X2: X-Men United, the Emmy-winning actor has stepped back into the role for Avengers: Doomsday, set for release in May 2026. Cumming, now 60, admitted that his first outing as the blue-skinned mutant was far from enjoyable. He recalled long hours in the makeup chair and an unpleasant working environment, experiences he previously documented in his memoir Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life. But this time, he says the project was different. Speaking at the Televerse 2025 conference, he revealed that filming had just wrapped earlier this month and that the experience left him feeling 'really healing.' He explained that advances in special effects made the return far easier, with makeup application now cut down from five gruelling hours to just ninety minutes. Filming was also compressed because of his commitment to The Traitors, meaning many of his scenes were shot quickly on green screens and stitched together. The actor said this allowed him to perform the superhero stunts he never expected to take on in his sixties, adding that everyone on set treated him with kindness and professionalism. Marvel has assembled an ambitious cast for Avengers: Doomsday, including the return of Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer alongside the wider Avengers ensemble. The film introduces Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, a role already generating intense anticipation among fans. For Cumming, the return of Nightcrawler is a nostalgic reprise. It is also a chance to rewrite a difficult chapter in his career with a positive experience. He described it as stealthy, swift and above all satisfying, a contrast to the misery he once associated with the role. As he put it himself, 'It was actually really great to go back. A great film, great film. I love the film.'

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday with surprising twist
Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is officially set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but with one major twist. According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Wade Wilson will be part of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster, he will not join the Avengers team in the film. Avengers: Doomsday marks the return of the Avengers franchise after the Multiverse Saga introduced no new entries. Marvel revealed the film's cast earlier this year, including returning MCU veterans like Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. The announcement also confirmed several unexpected appearances from Fox's original X-Men cast, including James Marsden, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart. The casting news sparked speculation about the movie's plot, especially with the inclusion of characters from past Marvel adaptations. However, the initial absence of Deadpool, Wolverine, and Spider-Man left fans questioning how the crossover events would unfold. Reynolds recently hinted at his involvement through social media, fueling rumors that were confirmed with this latest report. While Deadpool will appear, his role will reportedly be separate from the Avengers' main storyline. Filming for Avengers: Doomsday is set to begin soon, with the cast list expected to expand further as Marvel continues to surprise fans with unexpected additions from across its cinematic history.

Ryan Reynolds fuels Deadpool return rumors with Avengers Doomsday Instagram tease
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has ignited fresh speculation among fans after posting a cryptic Instagram image on Tuesday. The post featured the Avengers logo covered in Deadpool-style red graffiti, resembling both the Avengers 'A' and the classic anarchy symbol. deadpoolReynolds' wisecracking anti-hero was last seen in 2024's box office hit Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed $1.3 billion worldwide. While Marvel did not list him among the confirmed cast for Avengers: Doomsday during its 'big chair' reveal, the film's multiverse-driven premise — coupled with Deadpool's unpredictable nature — has long fueled theories about his return. The timing of Reynolds' post has intensified speculation, with fans believing he is more likely to appear in Doomsday than in a later installment like Avengers: Secret Wars. Marvel is currently filming Doomsday, and some fans are expecting another major cast reveal as production continues. Filming for Avengers: Doomsday has been underway for months, with sightings of Sam Wilson's Avengers, The Thunderbolts/New Avengers, and The Fantastic Four on set. Leaked photos have also shown members of the legacy X-Men team, leaving room for even more potential cameos. With the film set to revisit the old Fox X-Men universe — featuring icons like Patrick Stewart's Professor X, James Marsden's Cyclops, and Ian McKellen's Magneto — fans are hopeful for a reunion that includes both Reynolds' Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. As anticipation builds, all eyes are now on Marvel for its next big reveal.
