iOS 26: Apple will let apps like Spotify access this new Music app feature
Apple previewed iOS 26, the latest platform update for iPhones, at its WWDC25 keynote, unveiling new features including full-screen animated artwork on the Lock Screen when music is playing. While the feature was showcased using Apple Music, Apple is extending support to third-party music apps such as Spotify. To enable this, Apple has introduced a new application programming interface (API) called MPMediaItemAnimatedArtwork. According to the company, the API will allow developers to provide animated video clips to display on the Lock Screen while audio content is playing. While this will work by default for Apple Music, implementation will remain optional for third-party developers.
The feature will not be limited to music streaming services either—it will also support audiobook and podcast apps. Although no third-party developer has confirmed integration yet, more announcements are expected closer to the public release of iOS 26.
Currently, iOS 26 is available through the Apple Developer Programme, with a public beta expected in the coming weeks. The update will roll out to all supported iPhones later this year as a free software update.
iOS 26: What is new
iOS 26 brings a major redesign under Apple's new Liquid Glass design language, with semi-transparent menus, dynamic shimmer effects, and redesigned UI elements. Lock Screen and Home Screen now support new customisation options including 'clear look' widgets and dynamic clock placement that adapts to your wallpaper. A new spatial effect adds subtle depth to wallpapers.
Key updates across native apps include:
Messages: AI-powered live translation, the ability to screen unknown senders, custom chat backgrounds, and in-chat polling for group messages.
Apple Music: Adds support for full-screen animated Lock Screen art and real-time lyrics translation.
Phone and Camera apps: Redesigned interfaces with simplified layouts, new tools like Call Screening and Hold Assist.

Xiaomi is making an Apple iPad Mini 7 rival with MediaTek chip and 8.8-inch display, launch in 2 days
Xiaomi is getting ready to launch a new compact tablet under its Redmi brand, and it seems to be taking on Apple's iPad Mini 7. The device is called the Redmi K Pad, and it's all set to launch in China on June 18. Ahead of the launch, the company has already confirmed some key features and revealed its design and it looks a tad similar to Apple's smaller iPad in more ways than Redmi K Pad will feature an 8.8-inch LCD display, which is close to the iPad Mini's screen size. Not just that, the front look of the tablet and even the single rear camera at the back remind us of the iPad Mini's layout. Xiaomi is clearly going for a design and size that will appeal to users looking for a lightweight tablet that is easy to carry and ideal for reading, browsing, or watching videos on the sets the Redmi K Pad apart is the hardware inside. It is tipped to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ processor, according to details spotted on Geekbench. The listing also mentions 16GB RAM, which is quite a lot for a tablet in this segment. It will run Android 15 out of the box, and it could offer a smooth and fast experience because of the flagship chip, especially when paired with the high refresh rate Speaking of the display, Xiaomi is not holding back. Redmi China's top executive Thomas Wang has said the LCD screen being used is among the best in the industry, with dual-driver ICs that help with better control of colour, brightness and other screen elements. This suggests Xiaomi is focusing heavily on display quality, which is often a strong point in Apple's tablets. The tablet could come with a 3K resolution screen with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect has also made some smart choices to keep the tablet lightweight and easy to handle. The company says it is using custom components for parts like the speakers, screen, and internal motors to reduce the weight without cutting corners on the purple colour of the Redmi K Pad has been shown so far, but more colours are expected at the launch. The back of the tablet carries a single camera with an LED flash, a microphone just below it, and a 'Gamma Antenna' label, which could be for improving signal reception. The volume buttons are placed on the right side, and the power button is at the Redmi K Pad is also tipped to support 67W fast charging, which means it should be able to top up quickly when needed. The tablet will be officially introduced during a live broadcast hosted by Xiaomi's China head Lu Weibing on June 18. The event will also include other products like the Redmi K80 Ultra and Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro.
