Jeremy Pelt: Woven review – accessible post-bop with a touch of electric Miles
Now 48, trumpeter Pelt has maintained a profuse presence in US jazz since his early 20s, racking up an impressive 25 albums, while his contributions as a sideman run into scores. His playing stands squarely in the post-bop traditions of Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard, with occasional forays into the electric realm. Pelt himself is an agile player, capable of both fiery declamation and intricate intimacy while always remaining melodic and accessible. On Woven he rings the changes while staying true to his muse. 'I'm not interested in 'new' for the sake of 'newness',' he says in the liner note. 'Rather, I'm infatuated with different perspectives.'
In practice that means a revised line-up that readdresses four previous compositions alongside fresh material, losing his usual piano accompaniment in favour of vibraphone and guitar. Also guesting is synth player Marie-Ann Hedonia, whom Pelt discovered via Instagram, proving a shadowy presence beyond the opening Prologue: Invention #1, and Invention #2 / Black Conscience, both of which carry a touch of electric Miles. More typical are the languid lines of Rhapsody and Afrofuturism, where guitarist Misha Mendelenko and vibes player Jalen Baker get to show their impressive chops. The band's evident comfort reflects the three tours they have already undertaken. A classy outing.

Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins on ‘ridiculous' feud rumours
The White Lotus co-stars Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins have both denied rumours that either of them are in a feud as 'ridiculous'. There has been speculation that the two co-stars had drifted apart after being on the HBO show, which follows the lives of guests and staff at a luxury resort as dark secrets are revealed and tensions rise over the course of the holiday. The third series sees the positive Chelsea, played by British actress Wood, 31, try to keep her mysterious older boyfriend, Rick, played by 53-year-old US actor Goggins, calm in Thailand. Following the 2025 series, Goggins appeared to step away from his fellow co-stars, and unfollow Greater Manchester-born Wood on Instagram. They both addressed the swirling rumours during a joint interview for US publication Variety, which was published on Wednesday. Goggins said: 'There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman (Aimee) madly, and she is so important to me.' He added that 'she's special', and explained he had not addressed the reports before as he did not want to talk about Wood when she was not there. 'I think it's such a comment on where we're at culturally. Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don't give a shite about Instagram,' Wood said. Goggins said that when he finished The White Lotus he 'needed to just back away from everyone', as it is his 'process' when filming a project ends. 'It's all so ridiculous,' he said. 'It's just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for f****** ever.' Wood previously criticised a Saturday Night Live sketch, with an cast member impersonating her with exaggerated prosthetic teeth, calling it 'mean and unfunny' on Instagram. She told Variety that it 'felt misogynistic. It felt like the punchline was a woman's appearance, which is just not funny. It's not cool'. Goggins shared the same sketch online and praised Jon Hamm for playing a version of his character, before deleting the Instagram post, ahead of hosting SNL> He said he was 'gonna say it (something) to your face', and added: 'I don't use social media in any way, and I'm not a mean guy.' SNL apologised for the April sketch, according to Wood, and the comedian and cast member who impersonated her, Sarah Sherman, sent her flowers to apologise. Wood is also known for Netflix teen show Sex Education, BBC comedy Daddy Issues and the 2022 drama film Living with Bill Nighy. Goggins has been in Western series Justified, post-apocalyptic series Fallout, and drama Sons Of Anarchy. He has had two Emmy nods, while Wood has won a TV Bafta for Sex Education and been given a Rising Star Bafta nomination.

Teen's tattoo horror after artist botches 'trendy' design on last day of holiday
Millie Nicholls is warning people to do their due diligence before getting a tattoo after a 'lazy' artist left her having to save up money for a painful removal procedure A teen was caught in an epic holiday blunder after the trendy Gen Z tattoo she requested from her artist turned out to be anything but. Millie Nicholls, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, plumped for what's been dubbed a generational refresh of the 90s tribal tattoo rage on the last day of a family holiday to Spain last month. The 19-year-old opted for an arm-length cybersigilism design featuring ancient sigil symbols, associated with imbued "powers", and futuristic spiky line work during her trip to Andalusia. The teen was pleased with the initial prep work, including a sketch provided by the artist, but what she ended up with fell far short of her expectations. Millie, who had opted not to look at the tattooing process, which she said "really, really hurt", turned back once the artist had finished, only to be greeted with a major blunder. The finished tattoo included both the design she was shown and the hand included in the picture her artist had initially presented her with. The teenager asked him if he could rectify the "horrible" tattoo, and he attempted to shade in inking that had taken him less than an hour to complete. Music lover Millie claims she will now have to fork out hundreds of pounds getting it blasted off, and has warned people to do their research before getting a tattoo abroad. Millie said: "The day before we messaged the guy on Instagram asking to book in for the next morning. "He seemed professional on his Instagram. Before I got the tattoo he pulled up the design on his iPad to print the stencil out. When he was doing my fingers, it really, really hurt." "I was looking away and I was looking at my mum and she was holding my hand. There was ink all over my hand so I couldn't really see when I did look. He stopped and washed it away and I looked and my mum asked me if I asked for that [the line around my hand]. I said 'no I didn't ask for that', he'd just done that. "It wasn't done at that point but it would have looked really stupid if I didn't let him finish it and then he tried shading it to make it look better but it just made it stand out more. He said he'd shade it for no extra charge. He did it and it just looked worse." Horrified Millie said she was "shocked" by the tattoo artist's mistake and will now have to save-up to go through famously painful tattoo removal. Millie said: "He did the design pretty good. He could have gone a bit deeper in some places because it's already fading. "I found an artist in the UK to fix that. When I realised [his mistake] all I could think of was 'I really hope it fades away'. It's going to be on my body for the rest of my life and there's no way that I could get a cover up to fix this." "I didn't know what to say to him, I think I was just in shock until I got home. I have to walk around with this now and all my co-workers are always asking me why he did that and I don't know, I really don't know. Laser tattoo removal is expensive so I'm obviously going to have to save up for it. "Tattoo removal hurts a lot more. I went through the pain of getting the tattoo done, I went through the pain of seeing how horrible it was and now I have to go through the pain of getting it removed." Millie now advises people not to get tattoos on their last days of holiday, adding anyone who wants body art should do their research beforehand. She said: "I'd say dig deeper than I did and do more research. Maybe speak to people that have got tattoos. Don't go on your last day because they know they'll never see you again if they mess up. "If the tattoo is 50 euros or less than that's a big red flag. For all of the stuff they use to do your tattoo it costs them about 50 euros so they wouldn't be making any profit unless they're using cheap stuff."
