Jordan Spieth WDs from Travelers Championship with neck injury, marking first of his career
Jordan Spieth withdrew from the Travelers Championship on Thursday afternoon due to a neck injury, marking a first for him in his career.
Spieth had made 297 starts in his career on the PGA Tour without having to withdraw from an event.
"I've never withdrawn from an event ever anywhere at any level, so I didn't really know what to do," Spieth said. "It just became too much ... I don't know, it's unfortunate. I've been doing everything right, and I think it was just very random."

Spieth, who said he thinks he may have slept wrong last night, said he started to feel pain during his warmups on Thursday. He quit early to receive treatment, but things only got worse throughout the day. He was clearly struggling throughout the first half of his opening round at TPC River Highlands, too. Spieth looked like he was in pain with just about every swing, and he stopped to receive more treatment when he made the turn.
Finally, Spieth called it after the 12th hole. He teed off at No. 13, but let out a massive grunt after making contact with the ball, clearly in a lot of pain.
He was 5-over on the day at that point, which had him at the bottom of the leaderboard. By then, he said, it was simply time to call it.
"As I was out there playing, I couldn't, I just wasn't moving very well, and then it just got worse," he said. "I was just going to try to see if I could somehow get through at even. It's a weird situation with an elevated event and no cut and important points and stuff. It's like, well, what's the downside if I can finish of just finishing even if it's ugly, and then I hit my tee shot on 13, and it legitimately really hurt ... I was like, it's only going to get worse to finish the round, and it's not worth it. I thought that was the time."

Spieth has won 13 times on the PGA Tour in his career, most recently at the RBC Heritage in 2022. He has four top-10 finishes on Tour this season and he's only missed two cuts in 16 starts. Spieth entered this week at No. 44 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

The Dallas Stars traded Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken for a third and fourth round pick on Thursday evening. The news comes mere hours after signing forward Matt Duchene to a four year, $4.5 million deal. Marchment was set to become an unrestricted free agent after next season and will likely demand a higher number than what he is currently making. His bruising style and flair for the dramatic are part of what drive him to be a valuable asset, and with a breakout year, he could secure a lucrative deal next off-season. Advertisement Surely, Dallas would have decided to keep Marchment if at all possible, but the salary cap dictated that the Stars simply had to move out at least one contract to make the last few moves of the summer. Dallas only had under $500k of cap space to work with after the Duchene deal, which was not even enough to sign a minimum salary player, let alone Jamie Benn or perhaps Mikael Granlund. With only one year left before Marchment might walk away based on the salary cap situation for Dallas next off-season, the Stars chose to get a couple of draft picks in return now instead of waiting. The question mark now becomes who replaces Marchment on the line next to Seguin and Duchene. Dallas is in win-now mode and needs every line to perform at its highest level in order to make the Stanley Cup Final. If Dallas needs to move more money, Matt Dumba or Ilya Lyubushkin have one and two more years on deals worth over $3 million each. Depending on what Nill has left on his to-do list, the Stars could be looking for suitors for one or both of those defensemen signed last off-season. Advertisement Marchment finished each of his last two seasons with 22 goals and added 56 assists. He had a rough first season, only potting 12 goals and 19 assists while being -6. On the line with Duchene and Seguin, he found a place to thrive, with a phenomenal +37 rating over those two seasons. The Kraken will welcome his goal scoring after a difficult season of being one of the worst scoring teams and missing the playoffs by a mile. Richards' 2nd-half goal lifts US over Saudi Arabia 1-0 and into CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Defender Chris Richards scored with a flick of the ball off a second-half free kick to lift the United States to a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Thursday night, sending the Americans on to the CONCACAF Gold Cuo quarterfinals. Richards tracked the ball as it flew into the box on a curving free kick from Sebastian Berhalter in the 62nd minute to tap the ball with his left foot past Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Nawaf Al Aquidi.
