
P-hailing rider killed in crash with lorry
HULU SELANGOR: A p-hailing rider was killed after crashing into the back of a lorry conducting cleaning work at Kilometre 430.6 of the North-South Expressway, from Bukit Beruntung to Sungai Buaya, here today.
Acting Hulu Selangor police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Asri Mohd Yunus said police received information about the accident at 1.25pm.
He said the victim, a 19-year-old man riding a Nimota NMS125K motorcycle, was believed to be on his way to work.
"Preliminary investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 69-year-old local man, was travelling from Bukit Beruntung toll to Bukit Tagar toll to carry out road cleaning operations.
"At the same time, the vehicle, which was using the emergency lane, was hit from behind by the victim," he said when contacted tonight.
Mohd Asri said the impact of the collision caused the victim to be thrown onto the middle of the road and he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
He added that the body was taken to Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
"Police are urging members of the public who have information about the incident to come forward to assist with investigations," he said.

He added that the victim was believed to be on holiday and was returning to his home in Alor Setar after visiting friends across the state.
