Olympics-Basketball to start two days before LA28 opening ceremony
"This adjustment allows the quarter-finals to be played over two days and will also ensure that no game will start earlier than 12:00 PM, enhancing the overall experience for players, teams, fans and broadcasters," FIBA said after a meeting of its Executive Committee.
According to a preliminary version of the competition schedule released by organizers of the 2028 Olympics last month, the basketball medal matches will be held on July 29 and 30.
The basketball competition will take place at the Inglewood Dome, with the United States looking to defend their men's and women's titles.
The 3x3 basketball competitions is scheduled to start after the opening ceremony.
A number of other sports like cricket, soccer, handball, field hockey and rugby sevens are also scheduled to begin before the opening ceremony.

For the record, the World Championships offer 1,450 ranking points from the opening round, with the champions earning 14,500 points and the runners-up 12,500. 'Chasing world ranking points is not our priority. I emphasise good performances and consistency because that matters more to me. 'The world ranking is something they want as well, but it comes second. I want them to be consistent with their performances, and if their level is good, the ranking will follow,' he added. To remain in the RTG programme, athletes must stay within the world's top 10 until the end of this year. For 2026, the requirement will be to remain in the top eight, with an even stricter condition in 2027 where they must improve their standing to world No. 4 in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. At present, Sze Fei-Izzuddin are ranked world No. 3 while Soon Huat-Shevon sit at No. 6. Their status as seeded players at the World Championships also gives them the privilege of receiving a first-round bye.

Rugby-Two changes for Argentina as they take on All Blacks again
BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -Argentina have made only two changes to their starting line-up for Saturday's Rugby Championship clash against New Zealand despite a resounding loss to the All Blacks last week at the start of the competition. Argentina were beaten 41-24 in Cordoba last Saturday but coach Felipe Contepomi resisted making wholesale changes for the second meeting between the two sides in Buenos Aires this weekend, hoping a change of form rather than personnel will give them a chance of home success. Rugby-Parker to debut while Taylor wins 100th cap for New Zealand on Saturday
BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) -Loose forward Simon Parker will make his debut for New Zealand after being named in the starting line-up to take on Argentina in their clash in the Rugby Championship on Saturday.
