The discovery of 18 blocks of wrapped cocaine with an approximate total weight of 45 pounds was made on the oceanside of Kabin Island, Wotho Atoll, in mid-March by 11 local residents hunting coconut crab, according to a press release from the Office of National Security (ONS).
News of the discovery circulated among Wotho residents and local government officials before the Marshall Islands Police Department (MIPD) headquarters on Majuro was notified by the Wotho Atoll local council.
MIPD Majuro headquarters officially informed MIPD Ebeye Substation of the discovery on Friday, 21 March.
MIPD began pursuit to seize and control the cocaine on Monday, 24 March departing Ebeye on Sea Patrol's TARLAN-04 for Wotho Atoll. Upon return to Ebeye, a rapid test conducted by MIPD confirmed the substance to be cocaine.
The retrieved drugs were secured at the CID office.
MIPD Ebeye confirmed the destruction of approximately 45 pounds of cocaine on Friday, 11 April, 2025 at a controlled facility on North Loi Island with assistance from Kwajalein landowner Odrikawa Jatios.
The officers involved in the destruction of the drugs included Acting Assistant Commissioner Beejay Jacob, Captain Banner Korwan and Sergeant Carlson Clarance.
ONS director Chris deBrum said the office is looking forward to collaborating with MIPD and local leaders at the upcoming Marshall Islands Mayors Association annual meeting to develop strategies on national security and handling of drugs that float into the outer islands.

Football match called off as rival supporters clash in stadium
A Copa Sudamericana match between Independiente and Universidad de Chile was suspended in the second half Wednesday due to spectator violence at the Argentine club's stadium. Universidad de Chile supporters reportedly threw objects from the visitor section at the home fans, forcing police intervention and a partial evacuation of the Libertadores de America stadium in Buenos Aires. Despite security intervention, the violence continued and led to clashes between rival supporters before Uruguayan referee Gustavo Tejera ordered the Round of 16 return match to be stopped with the score tied at 1-1. Football's South American governing body, Conmebol, later announced in a social media post that the game had been cancelled. That allowed Universidad de Chile to advance 2-1 on aggregate to the quarter finals after a 1-0 win at Santiago in the first leg.

James Hardie's Australia shares stare at biggest two-day drop on weak forecast
(Reuters) -James Hardie's Australia-listed shares fell more than 11% on Thursday and were headed for their biggest two-day drop on record after the fibre cement maker forecast 2026 earnings below analyst expectations, citing a weak North America market. The stock has now declined 36% to A$28.34 over the past two days, shedding more than A$9 billion ($5.78 billion) in market value in a selloff that shows broader investor frustration with Australia-listed companies failing to meet targets. The selloff began on Wednesday after the dual-listed company forecast adjusted operating earnings of $1.05 billion-$1.15 billion for fiscal 2026, missing a Visible Alpha consensus estimate of $1.23 billion. The midpoint of the forecast range also barely exceeded the $1.1 billion the company earned in fiscal 2025. Dublin-based James Hardie is grappling with a slowdown in its largest market North America, where weaker-than-expected single-family construction activity during the summer worsened demand for repair and remodelling work. Its North American fibre cement sales fell 12% to $641.8 million in the first quarter, while adjusted net income dropped to $126.9 million from $177.6 million a year earlier. The stock has lost nearly half its value this year, down 42.7% amid a slump in new single-family home sales in the U.S. due to higher borrowing costs and elevated inventory levels. Macquarie analysts flagged James Hardie's stretched balance sheet in a note, questioning the sustainability of its share buyback programme amid $5.1 billion in drawn debt pressuring its finances. Meanwhile, CSL shares tumbled nearly 20% in the two sessions through Wednesday, after the biotech firm ditched its key margin restoration goal for its blood plasma division, joining James Hardie in disappointing Australian investors with earnings-related setbacks.
