‘Karun Nair gets 100, KL Rahul requests BCCI to…': Gambhir handed ‘two gems' verdict ahead of England series

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen, who mentored Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, is mighty impressed with Karun Nair and KL Rahul ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Pietersen, who worked with both these batters at close quarters in the T20 competition, lauded the way both are preparing for the upcoming series, beginning June 20. Karun Nair vindicated the selectors' call to include him in the main squad as he hit a century in the ongoing first unofficial Test between India A and England Lions in Canterbury. The right-handed batter, 33, made full use of some below-par bowling on a green surface, which offered some initial assistance for the pacers. Karun remained unbeaten on 186 on Day 1 of the first unofficial Test as he made a strong case for his inclusion in the playing XI for the first match of the five-Test series against England in Headingley. The right-hander was involved in an 181-run stand for the third wicket with Sarfaraz Khan. The latter missed out on a well-deserved century, but Karun piled the misery, and he found support in Dhruv Jurel. According to reports, KL Rahul has also requested that the BCCI fly him to the UK next week so that he can play the second Test between India A and England Lions. Also Read: Karun Nair makes dream start to England tour with century for India A Pietersen labelled Nair and Rahul as 'two gems' of Indian cricket as he appreciated their efforts to prepare for the England tour. 'Karun gets a 100 yesterday, and KL has asked BCCI to travel early to the UK to get extra practice in before Tests - 2 gems,' Pietersen wrote on X (formerly Twitter). According to a report in the Times of India, KL Rahul will leave for the UK on Monday after being granted permission by the BCCI. Rahul was originally slated to leave alongside the rest of the Indian team on June 6. However, he decided to play the second India A Test against the England Lions after rain spoilt his preparation in Mumbai. KL Rahul had also played for India A before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The opening batter will now be required to shoulder the responsibility of the batting order after the Test retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rahul was one of India's best batters in the series against Australia, which India lost 1-3. India will be led by Shubman Gill against England while Rishabh Pant will serve as his deputy. India squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

What Happens If IPL Qualifier 2 Between PBKS Vs MI Is Washed Out?

Last Updated: IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, PBKS Vs MI: The race for the last spot in the final is on as Punjab Kings take on Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad. The stage is set for the second qualifier, where the Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians will clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. PBKS will strive for their first final appearance since 2014, while Mumbai Indians will have their sights set on a sixth IPL title. The playoff stages commenced with Qualifier 1 (PBKS vs RCB) and Eliminator 1 (GT vs MI) at the Mullanpur Stadium in Mohali. The remaining fixtures, including Qualifier 2 and the final, were moved to Ahmedabad. The final was originally scheduled for Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, home ground of the previous year's champions, Kolkata Knight Riders. However, escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan led to the tournament's suspension and a revised schedule with altered playoff venues. Weather forecasts suggest a minimal chance of rain, with predicting a 24 per cent probability. However, if the match is abandoned due to rain, the team higher in the points table will progress. In this scenario, it would be the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings, who finished the league stage at the top with 19 points and a superior net run-rate compared to their closest rivals, Royal Challengers Bangalore. Extra-Time Provisions in Place for Rain Delay Should rain disrupt the game, the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council have allocated an extra hour to the playing conditions, providing more time for the teams to complete the match. 'Similar to the playoffs stage, an additional one hour will be allocated to the playing conditions for the remaining matches of the league stage, starting Tuesday, 20 May," the BCCI statement noted. Clause 13.7.3 of the IPL Playing Conditions, addressing extra time, states: 'Where the start of play is delayed or play is suspended for any reason then extra time of… up to one hundred and twenty minutes for any of the play-off matches (shall be available)." 'For the avoidance of doubt, if extra time is required to be used, it will be taken in the following sequence. In the event of a delayed start or interruption, the provision of… one hundred and twenty minutes for play-off matches extra time is to be used first, followed by the time allocated for time-outs and then the reduction in the innings change interval (if applicable)." 'For clarity, the changeover period (maximum 10 mins) for a Super Over after the main match is not to be taken into account when applying any permitted extra time available." It is important to note that no official statement has been issued regarding a reserve day for the second qualifier. Currently, only the final has a provision for a reserve day. PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2: Top 5 fantasy picks for your dream team as Punjab and Mumbai look to secure a spot in the final

On June 1, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians will face each other in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The action is set to begin at 7:30 PM. Let's take a look at the top 5 fantasy picks in the PBKS vs MI match. Suryakumar Yadav is a must-have fantasy pick for PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2. He's in sizzling form, scoring 640 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 167. With Gujarat eliminated, Surya is a top contender for the Orange Cap. SKY has 9 scores above 30 in his last 10 innings and thrives under pressure. Expect fireworks as he eyes a spot in the final and top run-scorer crown. Shreyas Iyer remains Punjab Kings' backbone at No. 4 and a potential fantasy game-changer. His dismissal for just 2 in Qualifier 1 against RCB exposed the fragility in PBKS' middle order. It proves how crucial his role is. Before that, he scored 72 against CSK, 53 against DC and 45 against LSG. A composed anchor who can shift gears, Iyer is also the team captain. He will look to lead from the front in this high-pressure clash against five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Prabhsimran Singh has been Punjab's firestarter in IPL 2025, hammering 517 runs in 15 matches at a blazing strike rate of 166. His fearless approach at the top has fetched him five 50+ scores, including a 91 and an 83. Singh is currently in the Orange Cap Top 10 and has punished quality attacks. Even when others around him failed, Prabhsimran kept scoring. He made only 18 in Qualifier 1, and the entire batting order collapsed. But, in this match, he could set the tone yet again. Jasprit Bumrah is a top fantasy pick for PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2. He's been consistently impactful, taking 17 wickets in IPL 2025, including 1/27 in the high-scoring Eliminator. His game-changing yorker broke a dangerous 84-run stand between Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, halting GT's momentum. With deadly accuracy and calm under pressure, Bumrah is MI's strike weapon in crunch games. Expect him to deliver again. Rohit Sharma has stepped up in crucial games, proving yet again why he's a big-match player. His 81 off 50 balls in the Eliminator vs GT was a timely reminder of his class. As an impact substitute in IPL 2025, he's played with freedom and aggression, hitting 4 big fifties in his last 8 outings. Against Punjab, his experience and ability to dominate in pressure situations make him a top fantasy pick. If MI bat first, Rohit could set the tone for a big score in this virtual semi-final.
