Cantor Downgrades Joby Aviation Stock (JOBY) Due to Lack of Near-Term Upside
Cantor Fitzgerald downgraded electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft maker Joby Aviation (JOBY) to Hold from Buy with a price target of $9 due to a lack of near-term upside in the stock. While JOBY stock plunged about 8% on Thursday due to the rating downgrade, it has rallied 26.5% over the past month. As a result, the stock is up 9.1% year-to-date, thanks to a favorable executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump and the announcement of new deals.

Indeed, the executive order would direct the Transportation Department to develop a program to accelerate eVTOL operations in the U.S., which is expected to benefit players like Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation (ACHR).
This comes after Joby Aviation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this month with Abdul Latif Jameel to explore establishing a distribution agreement in Saudi Arabia for the company's electric aircraft. The agreement involves the potential delivery of up to 200 Joby aircraft and related services that are valued at about $1 billion.
Cantor Moves to the Sidelines on JOBY Stock
Interestingly, Cantor analyst Andres Sheppard admitted that Joby Aviation remains one of the best-positioned companies in the eVTOL sector, given its partnerships with Toyota (TM), Delta Air Lines (DAL), and the U.S. Department of Defense. However, the 4-star analyst finds JOBY stocks' valuation to be stretched, following a 60% rally over the past three months and an almost 90% gain in the past year. 'We don't see current levels as a good entry point for investors,' said Sheppard.
The analyst noted that while Joby Aviation has solid liquidity, it also has one of the highest cash burn rates in the sector. In fact, the company ended Q1 2025 with about $1.3 billion in total liquidity, including Toyota's $250 million funding, but expects to spend between $500 million and $540 million in 2025.
Additionally, Sheppard cautioned about delays in U.S. certification and doesn't expect Joby Aviation to secure full FAA Type Certification until at least the second half of 2026. Finally, Sheppard pointed out persistent uncertainty around the company's unit economics, such as pricing and deployment costs of its air taxi service.
Is Joby Stock a Good Buy?
Wall Street has a Moderate Buy consensus rating on Joby Aviation stock based on three Buys, three Holds, and one Sell recommendation. Furthermore, the average JOBY stock price target of $8.86 indicates that the stock is trading close to fair value.

Doug Ford says U.S. governors agree Trump's comments on Canada were ‘insulting'
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his U.S counterparts are concerned about a drop in tourism from Canadians, telling him that President Donald Trump's comments about making Canada the 51st state were insulting to Canada. 'Well, as we talk to the governors, a lot of governors are saying it's insulting, it's insulting to your closest friend and allies,' Ford told CNN in an interview Monday morning. 'We love the U.S. I love the U.S. Canadians love Americans. There's one person that is causing this issue, and that's President Trump. Hopefully he'll take another avenue and start mending fences, because right now, as the governors told us here, they've seen a drastic decline in Canadian tourism.' Ford's comments come as he and several other premiers meets with a number of U.S. governors in Boston to discuss trade and tariffs. Some of the governors, Ford said, are particularly concerned about a sharp drop in tourism from Canadians amid the trade war, which has seen the U.S. impose tariffs on Canadian goods, only to decrease or escalate them with little warning. Trump has repeatedly called for Canada to become the 51st state and has said that he would use economic coercion in order to encourage the country to do so. Canadian leaders across the political spectrum have flatly rejected the idea as an assault on Canadian sovereignty. However Ford said warm relations persist between the governors and premiers, despite the rhetoric from the White House. 'It's a love fest in the room, and there's a mixture of everyone in the room, and we just want to get things back on track and move forward,' Ford said. The meeting is being attended by Maine Gov. Janet Mills, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, Rhode Island Gov. Daniel McKee, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul. Along with Ford, the Canadian delegation includes Newfoundland and Labrador Premier John Hogan, Prince Edward Island Premier Rob Lantz, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt, and Quebec economic minister Christine Fréchette. The Boston meeting between the governors and premiers comes the same day Prime Minister Mark Carney meets with Trump on the sidelines of the G7-summit in Alberta. Ford expressed confidence in Carney ahead of the meeting, but said he needs to send a strong message that Trump's tariffs are hurting both countries. 'I have all the confidence in the world in Prime Minister Carney,' Ford said. 'He'll be obviously very polite being the host, but he also has to be stern.' He reiterated that it 'makes no sense' to attack one of your strongest friends and allies. 'We have to send a message to the rest of the world; there's certainty here now in these two countries, and come and invest in the U.S. and Canada,' Ford said. When it comes to his response to the trade war, namely the controversial 'special economic zones' for resource extraction in Bill 5, Ford was asked whether his plan strips away First Nations rights in favour of economic growth. 'There's a few (First Nations) that's making noise, but the vast majority, you watch, though, they'll be full steam ahead, and we're going to work collaboratively with our First Nations communities,' Ford said. The bill has faced criticism from some First Nations groups over the special economic zones it allows the government to create. The bill gives the government the power to circumvent environmental and other regulations in zones of key economic interest designated by the province. - With files from CTV News

Crypto platform Tron strikes deal with Nasdaq-listed company
Justin Sun's crypto platform, Tron, has reached a deal with Nasdaq-listed company SRM Entertainment under which it will buy tokens, be renamed Tron Inc and have Sun join the company as an adviser, SRM said on Monday. SRM's statement did not name the private investor whose US$100 million equity investment - valued at US$210 million if warrants are exercised - would be used to purchase Tron's cryptocurrency. The Financial Times reported that the funds would be injected by Tron itself and that Tron was set to go public in the U.S. via a reverse merger with SRM. Spokespersons for Tron and SRM did not respond to requests for comment on whether the US$100 million in funds were going to come from Tron itself. SRM's statement did not say how Tron would be run in the future or whether the ownership would change as a result of the deal. The SRM deal was organized by New York-based boutique investment bank Dominari Securities, the statement said. Two of U.S. President Donald Trump's sons, Don Jr and Eric, joined the board of Dominari Holdings, which owns Dominari Securities, in February, the company said at the time. Dominari Securities did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Chinese-born Sun, the founder of the Tron blockchain network, was sued by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 2023. The billionaire has close ties to Trump's World Liberty Financial crypto venture. This year he increased his investment in the project to US$75 million. Sun's Tron network has also listed USD1, a stablecoin issued by World Liberty. Those purchases, involving an entity where Trump benefits financially, have raised concerns among political opponents and ethics experts about potential conflicts of interest. The president has said he put his business interests in a trust managed by his children to avoid conflicts of interest. A civil fraud lawsuit by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission against Sun has been put on hold. SRM also designs and sells custom merchandise such as toys and souvenirs. Its shares jumped more than 300 per cent on Monday, reaching as high as US$6.70, compared with Friday's close of US$1.45. --- Reporting by Ateev Bhandari in Bengaluru and Elizabeth Howcroft in Paris; Editing by Shailesh Kuber and Matthew Lewis.

Why Advanced Micro Devices Rallied Today
Shares of artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) rallied 9.8% on Monday, as of 12:43 p.m. ET AMD made some big product announcements last week, especially around AI. Today, a Wall Street analyst wrote his positive conclusion on the event, and revealed some positive industry data in the PC space, too. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Learn More » Piper Sandler sees a snap-back in PC demand, GPUs Last week's big event centered on AMD's new Instinct MI350 accelerators, and upcoming MI400 "Helios" racks, which will be available next year. But one sell-side analyst also sees some optimistic signs in AMD's client business, which led to a price target bump today. On Monday, Piper Sandler semiconductor analyst Harsh Kumar noted he is seeing some "pull-ins" in the client space, which used to be AMD's largest, but is now its second largest after data centers. The PC has been mired in somewhat of a downturn for a few years now, but a combination of aging pandemic-era PCs, new AI PC capabilities, pull-ins ahead of potential further tariffs, and the coming phaseout of the Windows 10 operating system may be spurring a nice refresh cycle. In addition, some investors were worried about the sequential decrease in AMD's data center and GPU revenue last quarter, where AMD hopes to compete more effectively against Nvidia. However, in the note today, Kumar also noted he sees a "snap-back" in that area, in the second half of the year, based on the new Instinct MI350 chips, which will be available in the second half of 2025, and "Helios" rack-scale systems, which will become available in the latter part of 2025. As a result, Kumar raised his price target on AMD to $140, up from $125. Can AMD find its competitive place in AI? There are a lot of questions surrounding AMD at this moment, namely whether there is a place for its Instinct AI accelerators in the AI world where Nvidia currently dominates, and large cloud companies are all now building more custom AI silicon themselves. However, it appears as though last week's product even was encouraging on that front, and that AMD's AI design progress and acquisitions are beginning to garner enthusiasm among the analyst community.
