Madonna urges the pope to visit Gaza 'before it's too late'
Madonna has urged the pope to travel to Gaza and "bring your light to the children before it's too late.'
The superstar posted her appeal to the pontiff on social media Monday, saying her son Rocco's birthday prompted her to make the post. Rocco turned 25 Monday.
Addressing Pope Leo XIV, she wrote: "Most Holy Father. Please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it's too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering.
"The children of the world belong to everyone. You are the only one of us who cannot be denied entry. We need the humanitarian gates to be fully opened to save these innocent children. There is no more time. Please say you will go. Love, Madonna.'

The singer added that she wasn't taking sides in the war.
"I am not pointing fingers, placing blame or taking sides. Everyone is suffering. Including the mothers of the hostages," she wrote. "I pray that they are released as well. I am merely trying to do what I can to keep these children from dying of starvation.'
The pope recently renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, asking the international community to respect humanitarian laws and the obligation to protect civilians.
"I once again call for an immediate end to the barbarity of this war and for a peaceful resolution to the conflict,' the pontiff said last month.
Aid workers and doctors have said that after months of Israeli blockade and turmoil in the distribution of supplies, children in Gaza with no previous conditions are starting to die from malnutrition.
Israel's air and ground offensive, sparked by Hamas' Oct 7, 2023 attack into Israel, has displaced most of the some 2 million Palestinians in Gaza and pushed the territory toward famine.
The United Nations said that across Gaza, more than 5,000 children were diagnosed with malnutrition in May, though that is likely an undercount. Malnutrition was virtually nonexistent before the war. Doctors struggle to treat the children because many supplies have run out, the UN says.
Israel denies a famine is taking place or that children are starving. It says it has supplied enough food throughout the war and accuses Hamas of causing shortages by stealing aid and trying to control food distribution. – AP

Her Norwegian mother, a fan since her own youth, read all of the tales to Senn and her sister growing up. "Moomins have been such a special thing in my life, my whole life," Senn said. "I just carried that love for Moomin, for Tove Jansson, with me into my adult life.' When Senn met her now-wife, Lizzie, they were initially in a long-distance relationship for the first year and a half. Senn introduced Lizzie to the books and the couple used a plush doll of Moomintroll to feel closer to each other while they were apart. The doll was the ringbearer at their wedding, and they traveled to Tampere on their honeymoon. The Senns also made an Instagram page documenting the trio's adventures, which now has nearly 11,000 followers. Stefanie Geutebrück said she remembers falling in love with the Moomins while watching their animations during her childhood in East Germany. "A single image of Stinky was removed from the youth wing - which had the potential to be negatively misconstrued by young children without a fuller understanding of the Moomin universe,' the library said Monday in a statement to The Associated Press. The news came during Swift's appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her NFL (National Football League) star boyfriend, Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, who formerly played for the Philadelphia Eagles. Unveiling a copy of the new record, the singer said: "This is my new album, 'The Life Of A Showgirl'. Swift said, "I just love music. I would be playing shows three nights in a row, then I would have three days off. "I would fly to Sweden. In an Instagram post, the 35-year-old revealed the album's artwork and 12-track listing – with Sabrina Carpenter featuring on the title song and only collaboration. The "Life Of A Showgirl" is Swift's first album since regaining control over her back catalogue and purchasing the rights to all of her concert films, music videos, album art and photography, as well as her unreleased songs. Swift appeared on the New Heights podcast hosted by her boyfriend, National Football League player Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason Kelce. Showgirl will be released Oct 3, the singer said on the episode aired on Wednesday. "This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant," Swift said. "It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in my life." She said that "effervescence" came through and promised some "bangers." Swift has won 14 Grammys including an unparalleled four album of the year honours. Showgirl will be her 12th original album. The Eras Tour, which featured music from throughout her two-decade career, concluded in December 2024 and grossed more than US$2bil.
