Hiker who fell into active volcano has died, family says
Lombok is directly east of the island of Bali.
The woman's family identified her on social media as Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins and, on June 24, posted she did not survive the catastrophe.
"Today a rescue team managed to reach the place Juliana Marins was," the post on Instagram reads. "With great sadness we inform you that she did not survive."
According to a release from park officials, search and rescue team reported the hiker was spotted "using a drone, in a position stuck on a rock cliff at a depth of 500 meters and visually motionless."

'Extreme terrain and dynamic weather'
Helicopters, at the governor's instruction, were dispatched to the area in an effort to help, the release reads.
"Two rescue personnel were deployed to reach the victim's location and check the second anchor point at a depth of 350m (1,140 ft)," the park wrote in the post. "However, after observation, two large overhangs were found before reaching the victim, making it impossible to install the anchor. The rescue team had to climb to reach the victim."
But, park officials reported, "extreme terrain and dynamic weather," dense fog conditions, and narrowed visibility have hampered the recovery.
"The team remains vigilant and committed to continue best efforts for safety and humanity," the post reads.
USA TODAY has reached out to Marins' family.
Efforts continued on June 24, park officials said.
"Pray for the safety of the whole team on the field," the post reads.

The pair had both decided to undertake the difficult climb up Mount Rinjani - an active volcano - drawn, like many other tourists, by the promise of stunning views of the surrounding landscape from the high point. But that morning was very cloudly, and the pair joked that the breathtaking scenes they had been promised a glimpse of were covered by thick cloud. Juliana's friend Federica is seen in the video saying sarcastically: "The view is amazing, you can tell it was so worth it." Juliana replied jokingly, "Yeah, we did it for the view, so I'm glad, amazing!". Skirting along the hiking trail around the volcano's crater rim, Juliana started to struggle more and told the two tour guides that she had to take a break, unable to go any further in the cold weather, so they advised her to wait and rest. Frederica admitted the climb had been "very difficult" and other members of the group also revealed that it had been "really cold" on the volcano. Juliana was then seemingly left behind. The rest of the group is said to have carried on with their hike, accompanied by both the guides, continuing along the trail. The influencer was reportedly left with no idea what to do after being left alone in the treacherous landscape. Her sister Marianna told the Brazilian press: "She didn't know where to go. She didn't know what to do." After she was left alone on the trail, Juliana slipped and fell at about 6.30 am local time, plummeting and rolling a terrifying 984ft down a slope. She then managed to cling to a rocky ravine by the crater of the active volcano. "When the guide came back because he saw that she was taking too long, he saw that she had fallen down there," her sister explained. Tourists are reported to have heard her screams from inside the crater, where she desperately called for help. Despite miraculously surviving her initial fall, she was too injured to climb back up and was stuck there with no food, water, or shelter. Search and rescue teams were dispatched eight hours later, with severe fog said to hamper attempts to rescue the 26-year-old who had been backpacking through south east Asia by herself since February. Terrifying drone footage showed her crawling where she had fallen, but the rescue teams couldn't get to her straight away. When they tried again the following day, she wasn't where they had seen her previously. Instead, she had taken another plunge deeper into the volcano, into what the rescuers called a "deep gorge with loose rocks," the Metro reports. When they finally got to Juliana, she was around 1,600ft inside the volcano - and motionless. They opened a dedicated tent as they tried to save her, but tragically her family announced that the adventurous young woman had died. "We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection, and support we have received." The rescue attempts were extensive, with six teams accompanied by two helicopters and specialist equipment all sent out in an attempt to save Juliana's life. However, some people online have suggested that rescue attempts would have been more extensive if Juliana were white. "Juliana Marins has been missing for over two days inside an active volcano in Indonesia. "The tour company left her. The rescue failed. If she were a white American woman, there'd be helicopters, headlines, and urgency," one social media user claimed.
