Johnson has one year of eligibility remaining after leading Akron to Mid-American Conference regular-season and tournament championships, and to the NCAA Tournament in 2025.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3 junior guard, was named MAC Player of the Year after he averaged 14.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists this past season.
Johnson was a redshirt who did not play during Akron's run to a MAC Tournament title and an NCAA appearance in 2022. Johnson starred on Akron's 2024 and 2025 teams that won MAC Tournament championships and played in the NCAA Tournament.

It's quite a reversal from the days after Akron's season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a 93-65 loss to No. 4 Arizona on March 21 in Seattle. At that point several key Zips players told the Beacon Journal they planned to return to UA next season. Within a few days, 11 players said they were coming back to Akron.
Nate Ulrich contributed to this story.

Over the last two months, Priester has posted an 8-0 record and the Brewers have won all 10 of his starts. Just sayin'. Hit the MLB tab on your BetMGM app to see all the way you can play on today's games. There are just three races left until the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs begin. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Michigan State Spartans and head coach Tom Izzo were good last season, but they didn't have quite enough talent to make a Final Four run in the NCAA Tournament. When all was said and done for the 2024-25 college basketball season, the Spartans finished with a 30-7 overall record that included a 17-3 record in Big Ten play. They entered the tournament as a No. 2 seed. In the tournament, Michigan State defeated No. 15 Bryant in the first round, No. 10 New Mexico in the second, and No. 6 Ole Miss in the Sweet 16. Unfortunately, they fell to the No. 1-seeded Auburn Tigers in the Elite Eight. USC baseball signs head coach Andy Stankiewicz to contract extension through 2030 season
Andy Stankiewicz is officially going to be sticking around USC for a while. On Saturday, the Trojans announced that they have signed their head baseball coach to a contract extension through the 2030 season. Stankiewicz just led USC baseball to their best campaign in nearly two decades. The Trojans qualified for their first NCAA Tournament since 2015 and made it to the final of the Corvallis regional, where they fell to Oregon State in the decisive seventh game. If USC wants to make it back to the NCAA Tournament in 2026, they will have to do so without their two best players from this past season. Two-way sensation Ethan Hedges was drafted in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies and signed with the team, while star pitcher Caden Aoki transferred to Georgia for his final year of eligibility. While Hedges and Aoki will be tough to replace, however, the Trojans should return many key players from their NCAA Tournament run. In addition, after two years without an on-campus stadium, USC should finally be able to begin playing at the new Dedeaux Field next spring. In recent years, the storied USC baseball program seemed to have lost its way a bit. But with Stankiewicz at the helm for years to come, the future for the Trojans appears to be trending upward.
