I swapped my carry-on for a Dagne Dover diaper backpack — here's why it's the perfect travel bag even if you don't have kids

As a single woman in her 20s without kids, I never expected to be traipsing around the airport with a diaper bag on my back, but here I am.
I once read about a flight attendant who said a diaper backpack is the best carry-on bag imaginable — even if you don't have a baby — and my recent impromptu flight to NYC spurred the perfect opportunity to put this theory to the test. I took the bestselling Dagne Dover Indi Diaper Backpack in a size medium as my trusty personal item bag, and spoiler alert: I'll never travel without it again.
Diaper bags are quite literally designed to make your life easier and the Dagne Dover Indi bag did just that. It holds every essential, which in my case included liquids, snacks, a laptop, and every other thing I'd toss into a bag only to forget about later. And the best part? You'd never know it was meant to carry baby bottles.
Everything the Dagne Dover Indi Diaper Backpack can hold
One look at our Dagne Dover review should tell you everything you need to know about how our product experts feel about Dagne Dover: we love the brand's bags. It's clear that tons of thought goes into each design, and the Indi Backpack is a perfect example of this.
Just when you think you've counted every pocket, there's another one to be found. The two front zipper pockets conveniently open to one big one that gave me easy access to wet wipes, chapstick, and more. A glimpse inside reveals roomy storage, like two mesh pockets framing the sides that are surprisingly large considering the compact outer appearance. I used the mini pouch to hold my Airpods and chargers, and the changing mat doubles as a traveling WFH setup.
The diaper bag comes in small, medium, and large sizes — each offering roughly the same amount of convenient pouches. It has a wide dual-zipper opening that clips to the sides for a less bulky fit, but it can unclip when the bag fills up.
With more room than my usual tote bag, I felt encouraged to pack to my heart's desire. That included my laptop, which slid with ease into the inner mesh pocket alongside my stack of magazines. But it also left plenty of room for extra sunglasses and a quick stay for my liquids that were ready to show at security.
The medium-sized Indi backpack is perfect for solo travelers. It comfortably fits all the essentials, like a full-sized Hydroflask, into the side bottle pockets. My favorite part about this bag is its discreet back pocket, which is about the size of a wallet, for quick, easy access to my credit cards.
Even with a fully stocked bag, I had room to spare. It zipped closed with ease, and I didn't feel like I was carrying a stack of textbooks on my shoulders, though I opted to slip it onto my carry-on luggage using the back sleeve. Fortunately, I didn't struggle with it tipping over, but it did require a two-handed effort to roll around on the carpet.
Cons to consider
The Indi diaper backpack comes in a size small with a slimmer fit but you won't get the luggage sleeve that comes with the medium or large sizes. And while I'm obsessed with the soft neoprene material, some customers reported slight pilling over time. If you're bringing a baby on board, I'd check out the more surface-sturdy options like the lululemon New Parent Backpack.
The bottom line
A diaper backpack is the best travel bag you never knew you needed. And fortunately for you, Dagne Dover's Indi Diaper Backpack makes it stylish and convenient without raising eyebrows.

I Swore Off Fanny Packs for Travel—This Dagne Dover One Changed My Mind (And It's 20% Off)

As style editor, I've always leaned more towards fashion over function when it comes to travel clothing and accessories. So when the satirical fanny pack was rebranded as a stylish belt bag, I was beyond skeptical. Two years ago, I tried Dagne Dover's Ace Fanny Pack for T+L's fanny pack test, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I wore it during a four-week trip. In a true enemies-to-lovers storyline, I left my trip a massive fan of the neoprene fanny pack, and bought myself a one-way ticket on the belt bag bandwagon. Over a dozen trips later, I still reach for this fanny pack since it's impeccably easy to pair with all my travel outfits and it can hold more than enough travel essentials that this over-packer can't leave home without. Testing the fanny pack also introduced me to Dagne Dover as a brand, and now I own seven of their bags and accessories that I regularly use and love. Use code TL20 for 20% off Dagne Dover products, including the editor-loved Ace Neoprene Fanny Pack. Valid on all full-priced items; cannot be combined with other codes. I'm an overpacker when I travel, but also when I leave a hotel room, too. This means that my purse has to have room to hold my essentials, which includes my wallet, passport, sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen, and a portable phone charger. I love that the main compartment of the Ace Fanny Pack can store all of these items, plus it offers a little extra room for miscellaneous items like a packable bag or a snack. Inside the main compartment, there are several slip pockets for my lip balm, ID or credit cards, and a key leash, which make it convenient for grabbing these items quickly. The front of the pouch has a mini zippered pocket, which I've really only used for coins since it's not big enough for much else. I've also placed my ID in the hidden back slip pocket for going through the TSA security line—it really reduces the frenzied stress of having to locate my pass and ID when the line moves a little quicker than expected. The biggest deterrent for me for any fanny pack is styling it. I have a petite-ish frame, so a pouch can look huge on me. However, the Ace Fanny Pack is the perfect size that sits across my chest or on my waist without dragging me down with it. The strap can be adjusted to as long as 36 inches and it's easy to switch up the length while walking (I've done it while wearing the pack and rushing to catch the subway). I love that I can shorten the strap and wear it as more of a shoulder bag when I want to dress it up for a nice dinner. During the day, I can wear it with jeans and a T-shirt, and it completes a casual outfit without looking overly sporty or touristy. In my opinion, here's where Dagne Dover bags truly shine: the signature neoprene material is so travel-friendly. I am a notorious spiller of things—lip gloss, coffee, sunscreen…you name it, I've spilled it in and on this bag. I've even transferred glitter eyeshadow all over this bag after a concert; all I had to do was dunk it in a cold, soapy bath, and it came out as good as new. The neoprene is also water-resistant, so it protects items packed away like wireless earbuds and phones. The material is thick and soft inside out, so I also toss my expensive sunglasses in there (I know, I know, I shouldn't do that) trusting that they are protected from when I inevitably sit on the pack on accident. I own more than 10 fanny packs and sling bags now, but this one from Dagne Dover will always be my first and favorite one. It's less sporty than other styles on the market, which sets it apart from the traditional fanny packs that may deter travelers (like, ahem, me). The pack is whatever you want it to be; whether hiking in the mountains or sightseeing in the city, it's a true chameleon, which makes it worth every penny. Anna Popp is an associate editor at Travel + Leisure, where she covers apparel, bags, shoes, and more. She owns more than seven Dagne Dover travel bags and accessories, but the Ace Fanny Pack is her favorite one to use in her daily life and while traveling. She has brought it with her on domestic trips to the West Coast and throughout Asia and Europe. Love a great deal? This Spacious Organizational Travel Backpack Is the Best Carry-on I've Ever Owned

When I first discovered the travel bag brand Dagne Dover, it was love at first sight. I've become obsessed with the brand's thoughtful organizational systems, sleek and modern designs, and rugged construction methods. For years—even as many other bags tried and failed to replace it—the Dagne Dover Landon Carryall remained my absolute favorite carry-on bag, and had been my go-to for just about every trip. Flash forward to last summer, when Dagne Dover released its first-ever luggage line, complete with rolling carry-ons and checked suitcases as well as accessories and other travel bags. I immediately stocked up on tons of pieces from the collection, including the Brooklyn Backpack: a flap-top travel backpack that's decked out with functional details. Since then, this Dagne Dover backpack has become my new go-to, knocking my previous favorite, the Landon, off of its esteemed perch after years of loyal service. I've owned it for almost a year, and in that time, I've taken my Brooklyn backpack everywhere—from Tokyo to Kyoto, Dublin to London, and tons of cities in between. It's proven to be tough as nails, effortlessly holding up to overhead bins, chaotic train stations, and a wide range of weather conditions. Plus, the switch to a carry-on backpack has made travel days exponentially easier on my shoulders than a heavy tote or duffel. Even when sprinting through airports or navigating train platforms, this bag is tops at distributing weight evenly and comfortably. What really sets this bag apart is the thoughtful organizational components. There are padded compartments for a laptop (well, two laptops, actually), plus enough pockets and sleeves to keep cords, snacks, and chargers exactly where I want them. There's an exterior pocket for easy access to smaller items while on the go. I especially like that the side pockets have bungee cord closures, to keep a reusable water bottle—or sunscreen spray, an umbrella, or anything else, really—secure and easily accessible. This Brooklyn travel backpack opens up with a wide top that closes with a drawstring bungee cord and is covered with a flap top, which you then secure with two adjustable, substantial buckle straps. I always feel reassured that these buckles won't snap—the hardware is undeniably tough and sturdy. This bag is deceptively roomy, too. It's big enough to pack for an entire weekend, but not so bulky that it feels overwhelming or tough to wrangle, even when stuffed to the brim. The four color options are another bonus: They're chic, elevated, suited for all styles, and they coordinate beautifully with the rest of the brand's luggage line. Speaking of the other brand's offerings, the trolley sleeve makes it a breeze to slide over the handle of my matching Dagne Dover roller bag. At $300, the Dagne Dover Brooklyn Backpack is definitely a splurge—but it's built to last, with premium materials and a sturdy structure that holds up to real-world use, and reviewers seem to agree. 'This bag was worth saving up for,' wrote one five-star reviewer, adding that they intend to replace their other travel bags with Dagne Dover styles. Another shopper wrote, 'I was holding off on buying this for so long because of the price—I am OBSESSED and so happy I got it,' while a third reviewer wrote, 'I just know it's going to last forever.' For a seriously rugged travel bag that also works overtime as a weekender, work bag, and personal item, it's absolutely worth the investment. My beloved Landon still lives in my closet, but these days, it's the Brooklyn that stays stocked with my toiletry set, so it's always ready for the next adventure.
