I Swore Off Fanny Packs for Travel—This Dagne Dover One Changed My Mind (And It's 20% Off)

As style editor, I've always leaned more towards fashion over function when it comes to travel clothing and accessories. So when the satirical fanny pack was rebranded as a stylish belt bag, I was beyond skeptical. Two years ago, I tried Dagne Dover's Ace Fanny Pack for T+L's fanny pack test, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I wore it during a four-week trip.
In a true enemies-to-lovers storyline, I left my trip a massive fan of the neoprene fanny pack, and bought myself a one-way ticket on the belt bag bandwagon. Over a dozen trips later, I still reach for this fanny pack since it's impeccably easy to pair with all my travel outfits and it can hold more than enough travel essentials that this over-packer can't leave home without. Testing the fanny pack also introduced me to Dagne Dover as a brand, and now I own seven of their bags and accessories that I regularly use and love.
Use code TL20 for 20% off Dagne Dover products, including the editor-loved Ace Neoprene Fanny Pack. Valid on all full-priced items; cannot be combined with other codes.
I'm an overpacker when I travel, but also when I leave a hotel room, too. This means that my purse has to have room to hold my essentials, which includes my wallet, passport, sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen, and a portable phone charger. I love that the main compartment of the Ace Fanny Pack can store all of these items, plus it offers a little extra room for miscellaneous items like a packable bag or a snack. Inside the main compartment, there are several slip pockets for my lip balm, ID or credit cards, and a key leash, which make it convenient for grabbing these items quickly. The front of the pouch has a mini zippered pocket, which I've really only used for coins since it's not big enough for much else. I've also placed my ID in the hidden back slip pocket for going through the TSA security line—it really reduces the frenzied stress of having to locate my pass and ID when the line moves a little quicker than expected.
The biggest deterrent for me for any fanny pack is styling it. I have a petite-ish frame, so a pouch can look huge on me. However, the Ace Fanny Pack is the perfect size that sits across my chest or on my waist without dragging me down with it. The strap can be adjusted to as long as 36 inches and it's easy to switch up the length while walking (I've done it while wearing the pack and rushing to catch the subway). I love that I can shorten the strap and wear it as more of a shoulder bag when I want to dress it up for a nice dinner. During the day, I can wear it with jeans and a T-shirt, and it completes a casual outfit without looking overly sporty or touristy.
In my opinion, here's where Dagne Dover bags truly shine: the signature neoprene material is so travel-friendly. I am a notorious spiller of things—lip gloss, coffee, sunscreen…you name it, I've spilled it in and on this bag. I've even transferred glitter eyeshadow all over this bag after a concert; all I had to do was dunk it in a cold, soapy bath, and it came out as good as new. The neoprene is also water-resistant, so it protects items packed away like wireless earbuds and phones. The material is thick and soft inside out, so I also toss my expensive sunglasses in there (I know, I know, I shouldn't do that) trusting that they are protected from when I inevitably sit on the pack on accident.
I own more than 10 fanny packs and sling bags now, but this one from Dagne Dover will always be my first and favorite one. It's less sporty than other styles on the market, which sets it apart from the traditional fanny packs that may deter travelers (like, ahem, me). The pack is whatever you want it to be; whether hiking in the mountains or sightseeing in the city, it's a true chameleon, which makes it worth every penny.

She owns more than seven Dagne Dover travel bags and accessories, but the Ace Fanny Pack is her favorite one to use in her daily life and while traveling. She has brought it with her on domestic trips to the West Coast and throughout Asia and Europe.

Deebo Samuel, Mike Sainristil and a promising sign for the Commanders

After the Washington Commanders finished practice Wednesday, veteran receiver Deebo Samuel and second-year cornerback Mike Sainristil kept working out together in a moment that encapsulated the state of the team. Samuel, who's entering his seventh season, ran about a dozen routes to show the young corner how receivers could use different release techniques at the line of scrimmage to create separation against him. One big focus was refining how to stick to receivers who use an outside release to set up an inside route. Sainristil has seen such moves before, of course, but he wanted to see them again and again so his reactions would become automatic. The moment was a metaphor. The team is Sainristil, a young upstart with lots of promise, and it wants to be Samuel, a proven winner and consistent presence in the biggest playoff games. Their work together distilled the purpose of this space in the NFL calendar between the roster-building flurry of the spring and the training-camp battles of the summer. These offseason workouts, which will end next week with mandatory minicamp, are for experimentation, relationship-building and skill development. 'You would've thought he's been here the past five years of his career the way he's adjusted,' Sainristil said of Samuel. 'He's a guy that loves extra work, loves football, loves to win. So, any way I can pick his brain about what receivers do to help myself, I'm going to do exactly that.' Coach Dan Quinn gushed about 'the environment that the players have created together.' 'We all know, to be at our best, it's gonna take all of us improving,' he said. 'If that's Mike asking Deebo a certain technique or vice versa, that's really where it takes place. And so, we take these times on the field seriously, 'cause it's not just the scheme, it's the individual skill work.' There's a massive difference, Quinn pointed out, between knowing what to do and having the minute details ingrained in muscle memory. 'Be very specific; I think that's where the gold is,' he said. 'That's why I think the teaching this time of year has to shine on the coaches, and we've got some excellent ones because they'll get very specific on the certain techniques. 'Let's try that one again. Let's put the hand into this space.' You're not in a rush to get to the next play [like you are during the season]. … If they have to do it four or five times, that's okay.' Defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. recently did similar work. He had a group of safeties practice press technique against a tight end. That specific skill set might not always be top of mind for coaches. But it could matter a lot in a big moment of a big game if safety Will Harris has to press, say, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. It might not have been a coincidence that Wizards Coach Brian Keefe attended practice Wednesday. 'We learn a lot from the NBA [in terms of] what that small group would look like, of a specific two or three players getting better on something,' Quinn said. Samuel said he knows there are things he needs to work on himself. His top goal of the offseason was 'being in better shape for sure,' he said, though he declined to detail what he focused on or how it would show up in his game. He pointed out he also needed to learn a new offense. But Samuel showed through his work with Sainristil that he understands his value to the Commanders goes beyond his individual skills. He's been here just for a few weeks but has already embraced the word 'brotherhood,' the team's favorite way to express closeness. 'The guys in the locker room make it easy,' Samuel said. 'When I walked in the locker room, I felt like I've been here before because of how the guys treated me.' Said Whitt: 'When we went on that three-game losing streak [last season], it wasn't anything other than the brotherhood that kept them together.' The brief post-practice scene Wednesday carried all this subtle significance. Mentorship from talented veterans can help younger players — and therefore the team — actualize their potential. And the relationships built in those moments can help players stick together during tough times.

Trump's Travel Ban Could Shake Up International Sporting Events

The proclamation President Trump's signed this week banning travel to the United States by people from a dozen countries makes an exception for athletes, coaches and support staff for 'major sporting events,' including the World Cup and the Olympics. What qualifies as a major sporting event remains to be seen. Mr. Trump's proclamation declaring the ban, issued on Wednesday, says that the secretary of state, Marco Rubio, will determine which events can receive an exemption. A host of international sporting events are planned in the United States over the next months and years. While some of the countries on the ban list, like Chad and Yemen, are not traditional sporting powers, others, like Iran and Haiti, could well expect to send athletes to the United States for a range of competitions. Mr. Trump also imposed a lower level of restrictions on seven other countries, including Cuba, a strong player on the international sporting stage, and Venezuela. Decisions will have to be made quickly. The CONCACAF Gold Cup, the men's soccer championship for North American, Central American and Caribbean nations, begins June 14 and will be played at sites across the United States (and one in Canada). Haiti has qualified for the competition and is scheduled to play games in San Diego, Houston and Arlington, Texas. The Club World Cup, the world championship for men's club soccer teams, also begins June 14 in several U.S. cities. No team based in a country on the banned list has qualified, but the teams involved include players and staff members from all over the world. CONCACAF, which runs the Gold Cup, and FIFA, which runs the Club World Cup, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Other events coming to the United States this year — including the under-19 softball World Cup and the world skateboarding championships — are less likely to be considered 'major' events. There are also big races, like the Chicago and New York marathons in the fall. Mr. Rubio may find himself facing a lot of judgment calls. The implications for college athletics, where rosters in many sports are dotted with international students, are also unclear. Both events that are explicitly exempted from the ban — the men's soccer World Cup and the Summer Olympics — are coming to the United States after this year. The World Cup is scheduled for 2026, and Iran has already qualified. (Hosting duties will be shared with Canada and Mexico.) Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics in 2028.

Major runway at Chicago Midway Airport gets $47 million makeover

A major runway at Chicago Midway International Airport is getting a multi-million dollar makeover, and the project broke ground Thursday. The Chicago Department of Aviation will be reconfiguring Runway 13C/31C to create two new taxiways, as well as doing some major repaving and installing new runway guard lights. The project has been in the works since 2022. As a part of the ongoing efforts to improve operations at Midway, the existing Runway 13L/31R, which the city said has been closed since 2023, will be permanently decommissioned as of June 12. When that happens, Runway 13C/31C will be redesignated as Runway 13L/31R. The goal of the project is for aircraft to be able to take off more efficiently, and reduce delays and traffic across the airfield. The groundbreaking event was attended by officials from the Chicago Department of Aviation and Mayor Brandon Johnson.
