I Swore Off Fanny Packs for Travel—This Dagne Dover One Changed My Mind (And It's 20% Off)

As style editor, I've always leaned more towards fashion over function when it comes to travel clothing and accessories. So when the satirical fanny pack was rebranded as a stylish belt bag, I was beyond skeptical. Two years ago, I tried Dagne Dover's Ace Fanny Pack for T+L's fanny pack test, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I wore it during a four-week trip.
In a true enemies-to-lovers storyline, I left my trip a massive fan of the neoprene fanny pack, and bought myself a one-way ticket on the belt bag bandwagon. Over a dozen trips later, I still reach for this fanny pack since it's impeccably easy to pair with all my travel outfits and it can hold more than enough travel essentials that this over-packer can't leave home without. Testing the fanny pack also introduced me to Dagne Dover as a brand, and now I own seven of their bags and accessories that I regularly use and love.

I'm an overpacker when I travel, but also when I leave a hotel room, too. This means that my purse has to have room to hold my essentials, which includes my wallet, passport, sunglasses, lip balm, sunscreen, and a portable phone charger. I love that the main compartment of the Ace Fanny Pack can store all of these items, plus it offers a little extra room for miscellaneous items like a packable bag or a snack. Inside the main compartment, there are several slip pockets for my lip balm, ID or credit cards, and a key leash, which make it convenient for grabbing these items quickly. The front of the pouch has a mini zippered pocket, which I've really only used for coins since it's not big enough for much else. I've also placed my ID in the hidden back slip pocket for going through the TSA security line—it really reduces the frenzied stress of having to locate my pass and ID when the line moves a little quicker than expected.
The biggest deterrent for me for any fanny pack is styling it. I have a petite-ish frame, so a pouch can look huge on me. However, the Ace Fanny Pack is the perfect size that sits across my chest or on my waist without dragging me down with it. The strap can be adjusted to as long as 36 inches and it's easy to switch up the length while walking (I've done it while wearing the pack and rushing to catch the subway). I love that I can shorten the strap and wear it as more of a shoulder bag when I want to dress it up for a nice dinner. During the day, I can wear it with jeans and a T-shirt, and it completes a casual outfit without looking overly sporty or touristy.
In my opinion, here's where Dagne Dover bags truly shine: the signature neoprene material is so travel-friendly. I am a notorious spiller of things—lip gloss, coffee, sunscreen…you name it, I've spilled it in and on this bag. I've even transferred glitter eyeshadow all over this bag after a concert; all I had to do was dunk it in a cold, soapy bath, and it came out as good as new. The neoprene is also water-resistant, so it protects items packed away like wireless earbuds and phones. The material is thick and soft inside out, so I also toss my expensive sunglasses in there (I know, I know, I shouldn't do that) trusting that they are protected from when I inevitably sit on the pack on accident.
I own more than 10 fanny packs and sling bags now, but this one from Dagne Dover will always be my first and favorite one. It's less sporty than other styles on the market, which sets it apart from the traditional fanny packs that may deter travelers (like, ahem, me). The pack is whatever you want it to be; whether hiking in the mountains or sightseeing in the city, it's a true chameleon, which makes it worth every penny.

She owns more than seven Dagne Dover travel bags and accessories, but the Ace Fanny Pack is her favorite one to use in her daily life and while traveling. She has brought it with her on domestic trips to the West Coast and throughout Asia and Europe.

Mid-sized US cities dominate ranking of emerging business destinations

American Express has released new travel data revealing emerging cities for business trips, and the results may surprise you. In a report released last month, the company analyzed year-over-year growth in hotel and airline transactions among commercial customers. American Express's report made no mention of bustling coastal markets like New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco, but rather several mid-sized cities were included in list of the emerging business travel areas, a handful of which have experienced population growth in recent years. According to the company, these cities are rising in popularity as business travel destinations. Richmond, Virginia A hub for several Fortune 500 companies, like Performance Food Group, CarMax, Altria and Dominion Energy, American Express says it has seen an increase in companies flocking to the southern city due to incentive-based business expansion legislation. Virginia has exceeded $100 billion in capital investment commitments from company expansions statewide, Gov. Glenn Youngkin said in a news release in March. Richmond is undergoing developments in the Richmond Diamond District, which will transform 67 acres into a neighborhood to keep up with demand. Another project will target the City Center Innovation District to accomplish similar goals, making the city more attractive to businesses. Columbus, Ohio Home to over 240 startups, Columbus has managed to attract several biotech and technology companies specializing in AI innovation. Census data from this year shows Columbus is major driver of growth in the Midwest, with a growing population that nears 1 million. Charleston, South Carolina Charleston, known for its stunning beaches and charming historic architecture, has experienced a boom of tech, aerospace and automotive companies flocking to set up hubs there, Amex notes. It recently hit a record of $14.03 billion generated from tourism in 2024, a 7.1% increase from the prior year and businesses are taking notice. Ingevity, a company that markets and manufactures specialty chemicals, announced last year it is investing $53 million over five years in its Charleston County manufacturing facility. "Ingevity's $53.3 million investment in their Charleston County facility underscores their confidence in our community," said Charleston County Council Chairman Herbert Ravenel Sass III at the time of the announcement. "This significant commitment reflects the strength of our partnership and highlights Charleston County as a leader in fostering innovation and sustainable growth." Boise, Idaho This city experienced rapid growth during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to moving data from HireAHelper, four times as many people moved to Boise, Idaho than left it in 2020. The migration primarily stemmed from people in western states moving to the area. In 2020, the city's population was about 230,000 and has since increased to roughly 237,000. That rapid increase has business leaders setting up shop in the city, with companies in the software, cleantech and outdoor lifestyle industries expanding their presence in Boise. New Orleans Walkability, a compact layout, and unique culture is what's driving business to New Orleans, American Express reports. Additionally, city leaders have taken steps to increase ongoing infrastructure enhancements at local venues. Those investments are expected to attract more conventions, create jobs and boost the local economy. Last week, 1834 Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, announced the launch of the inaugural $20 million fund to invest in startups found by alumni of Tulane University, one of the city's universities, further bolstering economic mobility. 1834 Ventures is channeling the funds into Louisiana "with the goal of building a more vibrant startup ecosystem" and "diversifying the state's economy," according to a news release from Louisiana Economic Development. Northern California city sets AI Bigfoot loose for tourism campaign

Folsom has deployed an uncanny cryptid to help with its tourism efforts. Back in July, the City of Folsom released a social media video featuring Bigfoot taking people around the town's big tourist spots. The tour guide films in selfie-mode as he visits the Folsom Zoo, swims in Lake Natoma, and eats ice cream in the Folsom Historic District. Of course, the video was created using generative artificial intelligence. "I was able to produce the whole thing in about ... an hour and a half worth of time," said Chris Shepard with the City of Folsom. A digital tour guide is among the latest uses cities on a tight budget have found for AI. Some, like Dublin, Ireland, have piloted itinerary builders for visitors using generative AI. Others, like Dubai, have created full AI-guided experiences at some attractions. Shepard noted that the Bigfoot video -- which was made using Google's AI video generator Veo -- appears to have struck a chord with Millennials and Generation Z, demographics of which he hopes will pay a visit to Folsom in the future. "Especially if they haven't been here and don't know what we have to offer," Shepard said. Folsom is located about 20 miles east of California's capital of Sacramento.
