Kim Kardashian Has Everyone — Including Her Friends — Wondering If She Paid $10M for a Birkin Bag

Yahooa day ago
Kim Kardashian is known for her extravagant taste — but even her close friends are wondering if she just dropped some serious cash on an iconic bag.
On Saturday, July 11, Kardashian shared a video that featured a model breaking a glass case containing the original Birkin bag inspired by the late actress Jane Birkin, who died in July 2023. Kardashian followed up the post with a series of texts from various people, all wondering if she had purchased the bag, which sold for €8.6 million ($10.1 million) at auction on Friday, July 10.
"Are u the winner of the first Birkin bag?" one text read.
"Please tell me you bought that Birkin," another friend texted. "Would be BAD ASS."
"Kim for real did you buy the original Birkin??? Or should I stop blaming you every time I lose an auction?" another text read.
Turns out, and despite Kardashian's hints and her friends' speculation, the bag ultimately went to Valuence Japan, Inc., in Minato-ku, Tokyo, who placed their bid through Maiko Ichikawa, Country Head of Sotheby's Japan.
The Associated Press reported that the auction began at $1 million and the bag had bids placed in person and via phone. The final four bids were for €6.2 million, $6.5 million and $6.8 million.
Kim Kardashian Reveals She Has Absolutely Nothing in Her Hermes Kelly Bag
Back in 2012 Birkin — who famously often carried wicker baskets in lieu of a handbag — told Vogue how the iconic bag came into fruition. She was seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, chairman of the Hermès group from 1978 to 2006, on a flight when the pair began to discuss the bag she had brought on the flight.
'I'd been upgraded by Air France on a flight to London, and I found myself sitting next to a man [the visionary Jean-Louis Dumas of Hermès],' she told writer Luke Leitch. 'I'm not quite sure what type of bag I had with me — my husband Jacques Doillon had reversed his car over my basket, crushed it on purpose not too days before. [Dumas] thought I deserved more.'
She continued, 'Little did he know that on this airplane journey, when everything fell out of whatever bag I had, the man next to me said, 'you should have one with pockets.' I said, 'the day Hermès makes one with pockets I will have that.''
Birkin went on to add that the designer told her that because 'I am Hermès, and I will put pockets in for you.' '
'I said 'why don't you make a handbag that is bigger than the Kelly but smaller than [former longtime partner] Serge's [Gainsbourg] suitcase?' And he said 'well, what would it be like?' And I think I drew it on the sick bag—or the not-be-sick bag. And he said 'I'll make it for you,'' she added.
Where Else Was Kim Kardashian Supposed to Put Her Birkin While Sitting Courtside at That Lakers Game?
Birkin popped into Hermès to buy the bag that had been designed, but instead Dumas offered to give it to her if she allowed him to name it for her. 'I was very flattered! They've turned it into the success we know today,' she said.

Crunchyroll Game Vault Gains 6 New Exclusive Mobile Titles This Summer

Crunchyroll announced six new games coming to Crunchyroll Game Vault this summer, including a Classroom of the Elite game. Mega and Ultimate Fan members should listen up. Crunchyroll announced six new games coming to the Crunchyroll Game Vault this summer, including a Classroom of the Elite game that shadow-dropped during Anime Expo 2025. The anime streamer continues to expand its gaming library, always looking to migrate fan-favourite games that may or may not be available in North America and the rest of the world outside of Japan. Classroom of the Elite – Merge Puzzle Special Exam – launched as a Crunchyroll Game Vault exclusive during Anime Expo 2025. The game is now localized in English and available worldwide for the very first time. Additionally, as part of the Game Vault, it is fully playable without its original micro-transactions progression model. One of the game's most controversial elements was its micro-transactions. Still, the company assured players that they would not have to worry about micro-transactions, a major component of the original version. All six new titles are making their mobile debut. Here is a quick rundown of the six new titles that joined the Crunchyroll Game Vault this week: Pub Encounter—Step into a cozy, old-fashioned pub and fall in love with one of several middle-aged men. Launched Wednesday, July 9 on mobile! Grisaia Phantom Trigger Vol. 1—The acclaimed visual novel receives an all-new iOS version as it joins Crunchyroll Game Vault. Pre-registration is now open! Metal Slug Tactics—The famed action series with a bold new twist: turn-based tactical combat! Pre-registration is now open! Phantom Breaker: Ultimate Battle Grounds—Pixel-filled beat em' up makes its mobile debut as part of Crunchyroll Game Vault. Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation—A heartwarming, hilarious, and beautifully animated summer adventure! Pre-registration is now open! Two Strikes—A stylish 2D samurai fighting game where every move counts. With a single well-timed strike, defeat your opponent—or fall by their blade. Of the six new titles being added to Crunchyroll Game Vault, I was able to check out Two Strikes at the Crunchyroll office in LA recently. Two Strikes is a sequel to the fun and popular title One Strike. While Two Strikes has a subtle, casual gaming vibe, the art and sounds added the most value to the game. The historical Japanese aesthetics and various fighting styles for each character increased the value of this game, implementing certain levels of meta picks. In the Crunchyroll office, we held a small tournament. We played a Bo3 format, with some practice rounds to get some of the newer players acquainted with the controls—I was among the noobs. And like a good noob, my learning speed was non-evident. Immediately, I lost two rounds straight. Fighting games have never been my thing; yes, I am that one button masher when playing games like Mortal Kombat or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. What makes the game super fun is how fast the matches are, ranging from one minute to three minutes. If you are a Mega and/or Ultimate Fan member, take advantage of the free games you can play in the Crunchyroll Game Vault. Those who are simply 'Fans' do not have game access to the Game Vault, but maybe one of these games will make you reconsider whether the ad-free viewing and Game Vault are worth it.

Kanye West's Concert Descends Into Chaos As Fans Demand Refund With Loud Chant During The Show

Kanye West's fans were left frustrated and disappointed after the rapper arrived late to his recent live show, only for the event to be further marred by technical problems. According to reports, the chaos led to loud chants from the 70,000-strong crowd demanding refunds. Some fans have since labeled the event as the "worst concert ever," with others also accusing Kanye West of lip-syncing to several of his songs. Last Friday, tens of thousands of Kanye West fans packed Shanghai Stadium in anticipation of the high-energy performance the rapper is typically known for at his shows. However, their loyalty to the rapper was met with disappointment, as they were treated to a subpar show plagued by numerous technical issues. This came after the rapper arrived more than 40 minutes late to the show, despite fans already waiting for him for several hours before the event. At some point during the chaotic event, fans who could no longer tolerate the issues began chanting for refunds right there at the venue, as seen in a viral clip on X. Interestingly, tickets for the event had ranged from a hefty 980 yuan (about $137) to 2,680 yuan (nearly $374), with many fans opting for the higher-priced seats despite the cost. It is unclear whether the rapper apologized to the crowd for his tardiness and the technical issues. However, he did take to his X account to thank fans for attending the event. He wrote, "Thank you to my fans in China and the Chinese government. The energy was amazing. Love all of you forever. Can't wait till the next show." After the show, a fan who attended the event took to X to express his disappointment over the underwhelming performance. "So I've been a fan of Kanye West since I was a teen. MBDTF opened my ears to the sonics in music," said the individual, referencing West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," which won the Best Rap Album at the 54th edition of the Grammys. "Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai, but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn't even sleep night before. But. Worst concert I've ever been to. @kanyewest u can be better," added the fan. The fan continued to express their frustration in follow-up posts, including calling for the singer not to tour and accusing him of lip-syncing during the Shanghai event. "@kanyewest you should not tour. It's not for you. Stick to the studio. You waste people's time, excitement, and money by pretending that you're a performer," he wrote in one post. "Mostly lip synching. His microphone must have been up less than 20 per cent of the time," the irate fan further noted in another post. An explanation for West's tardiness and the technical disruptions was offered by the event promoter, StellarAmber Group, on China's social media platform, Sina Weibo. They claimed that heavy rainfall around the time of the concert contributed to the disappointing production, as it prevented them from setting everything up according to West's specifications on time. "However, for this long-awaited return after 17 years, Ye's team insisted on prioritizing artistic integrity. After emergency adjustments, the show was delayed to ensure the best possible experience and to minimize the disappointment for the audience," read the statement, per Global Times. "We are deeply moved by the understanding and patience shown by many of the attendees and express our heartfelt gratitude. We also extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused and appreciate everyone's attention and support." Amid the drama surrounding the Shanghai show, a representative for West responded to sexual assault accusations made by the rapper's former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, per the Daily Mail. Pisciotta first filed the suit against the rapper in 2024 and has revised the claims multiple times before recently submitting another amended complaint. According to West's rep, Milo Yiannopoulos, "each new revision" of the complaint from Pisciotta "contradicts" the previous ones she has made. He further described the most recent amended complaint as "fantasy fiction" that "discredits all past, present, and future testimony." "We stand ready to annihilate Ms. Pisciotta's tall tales before a jury—an exoneration so inevitable that even she, lost in her fog of fantasy, must surely see it coming," Yiannopoulos also stated.

Donkey Kong: Bonanza Leak Copies, New Details, And A Potential DK Movie

Donkey Kong Bonanza early copies were accidentally sold this weekend, as Nintendo eyes to make a DK movie. Donkey Kong is making headlines this morning, with multiple outlets providing updates on the famous game gorilla. Donkey Kong Bonanza early copies were accidentally sold this weekend, as Nintendo is eyeing a DK movie. Donkey Kong Bonanza producer Kenta Motokura also shared new development insights about the game's development. The game is still set to officially release on Thursday, July 17. Social media flooded the internet with users posting their early copies of the Nintendo Switch 2 game Donkey Kong Bonanza, over the weekend. The worst part of the leak was that screenshots of unannounced game content were already being shared. For those looking to avoid spoilers before the game's release on Thursday, players should avoid social media or create a list of blocked topics. The last official update on the game revealed long-time series character Pauline would be joining DK on his adventure. In a recent interview with La Vanguardia, Donkey Kong Bonanza producer Motokura stated, 'this was the right time to develop this game.' This game provides a major update to the titular Nintendo gorilla because the last 3D game featuring him was Donkey Kong 64. Otherwise, the iconic character was only seen as a playable character in party games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Mario Kart 8/World. When asked when development began, Motokura replied: 'Although I can't give you very precise details, I can tell you that we started developing it after finishing Super Mario Odyssey,' Motokura shared (via machine translation). Game director Kazuya Takahashi added how the game's focus on destruction was only made possible on the Nintendo Switch 2: 'As we mentioned before, we wanted to generate continuity through chain destruction, and to do this, we needed to place a large number of destructible objects,' said Takahashi. 'This was only possible on Switch 2, which allowed so many elements to be placed on the screen, as well as different materials and large-scale destruction. In addition to increasing the feeling of satisfaction when destroying, we have put a lot of care into the effects and sounds, and also in the appearance of the objects that are destroyed.' CGMagazine's EIC, Brendan Frye, had the opportunity to check out Donkey Kong Bonanza early, praising the elements Takahashi mentioned. 'It's amazing to see Donkey Kong Bananza running so well on the Nintendo Switch 2, especially with the level of destructibility and environmental detail,' Frye wrote. Whether players on July 17th will enjoy the game's new look and destructive nature is still to be determined. On the film side, Nintendo and Universal Pictures registered the copyright for a Donkey Kong film, suggesting the forthcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel and Legend of Zelda film could be followed by Nintendo's gorilla. At the moment, the movie details are sparse. So far, the copyright is the only detail confirmed. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently talked about potential upcoming movie productions in an investor call. Furukawa was asked about the future of the 'visual content business' or films, essentially. The president replied that the company has been 'working on initiatives beyond our dedicated video game platforms for several years' and that it's 'deeply involved in production…Although we cannot discuss our plans beyond The Legend of Zelda movie at this time, we are working on various other projects.' A Donkey Kong film would certainly make sense. The gorilla is a prominent character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, voiced by Seth Rogan, and will likely feature in the sequel—expected to be called Super Mario World. DK seems to be getting a (re)glow-up, as the Mario sequel film is set to release in April 2026.
