Retroid just announced a dual-screen device, but not the one you expect

Retro gaming handheld maker Retroid spent most of this week teasing a dual-screen device, which was finally revealed this morning. Rather than a new device to its growing lineup, it's an accessory that can attach to some of its most popular handhelds.
The aptly named Dual Screen add-on has a large screen with a clip on the bottom. When attached to a gaming handheld, it creates a clamshell form factor similar to the LG V60 or Microsoft Surface Duo. Retroid hasn't shared much beyond the picture above, but a representative confirmed on Discord that it's an OLED panel.
It's compatible with several of Retroid's flagship handhelds, including the Retroid Pocket 5, Pocket Mini, and Pocket 4 Pro. However, it's not compatible with either of the most recent releases, the Pocket Flip 2 or Classic. That's not too surprising, given the form factors of those devices.
Adding a second screen looks a little goofy, but it makes emulation for Nintendo DS, 3DS, and even Wii U games more immersive. Popular DS and 3DS emulators already support gameplay on two screens, although Wii U support is still lacking.

This is far from the first device of its kind. The aforementioned LG V60 had an optional second screen, but the ROG TwinView Dock accessories for the first three ROG Phones were very similar, with a platform and clamp to hold the phone. A YouTuber named DNA Mobile Gaming also recently ran an Indiegogo campaign for the DNA Duo, another similar device with a very high price tag.
Retroid has yet to announce pricing or availability for the Dual Screen add-on, so stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

NASA and Google are building an AI medical assistant to keep Mars-bound astronauts healthy
As human-spaceflight missions grow longer and travel farther from Earth, keeping crews healthy gets more challenging. Astronauts on the International Space Station can depend on real-time calls to Houston, regular cargo deliveries of medicines, and a quick ride home after six months. All of that may soon change as NASA and its commercial partners, like Elon Musk's SpaceX, look to conduct longer-duration missions that would take humans to the Moon and Mars. That looming reality is pushing NASA to gradually make on-orbit medical care more 'Earth-independent.' One early experiment is a proof-of-concept AI medical assistant the agency is building with Google. The tool, called Crew Medical Officer Digital Assistant (CMO-DA), is designed to help astronauts diagnose and treat symptoms when no doctor is available or communications to Earth are blacked out. The multi-modal tool, which includes speech, text and images, runs inside Google Cloud's Vertex AI environment. The project is operating under a fixed-price Google Public Sector Subscription agreement, which includes the cost for cloud services, the application development infrastructure and model training, David Cruley, customer engineer at Google's Public Sector business unit, told TechCrunch. NASA owns the source code to the app and has helped fine-tune the models. The Google Vertex AI platform provides access to models from Google and other third parties. The two organizations have put CMO-DA through three scenarios: an ankle injury, flank pain, and ear pain. A trio of physicians, one being an astronaut, graded the assistant's performance across the initial evaluation, history-taking, clinical reasoning, and treatment. The trio found a high degree of diagnostic accuracy, judging the flank pain evaluation and treatment plan to be 74% likely correct; ear pain, 80%; and 88% for the ankle injury. The roadmap is deliberately incremental. NASA scientists said in a slide deck about the effort they are planning on adding more data sources, like medical devices, and training the model to be 'situationally aware' – that is, attuned to space medicine-specific conditions like microgravity. Cruley was vague about whether Google intends to pursue regulatory clearance to take this type of medical assistant into doctor's offices here on Earth, but it could be an obvious next step if the model is validated on orbit. The tool not only could improve the health of astronauts in space, 'but the lessons learned from this tool could also have applicability to other areas of health,' he said. As Patriots honor Tom Brady with a statue, a look at some notorious ones in sports history
A little over a year after the New England Patriots inducted Tom Brady into the franchise's Hall of Fame and retired his No. 12, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback will receive another honor Friday night. Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced during Brady's team Hall of Fame induction that plans were in place to have Brady be the first player in franchise history to be honored with a statue. It remains to be seen how good or questionable Brady will look in bronze. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer is hoping he doesn't end up on the infamous list of sports statues gone bad, just ask the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Dwyane Wade, Mo Salah, and others. Those sports legends are on the list of some of the most notorious athlete statues in sports history. Harry Caray (1999) The legendary Chicago Cubs broadcaster is depicted leading fans in a rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame, as he did many times at Wrigley Field. It also appears as if Caray is bursting through a baseball stadium with a creepy cluster of fans at his feet. Andy Murray (2011) A terracotta statue of the Scottish tennis player was unveiled in Shanghai, China in 2011, must to the dismay of the three-time Grand Slam champion. 'I thought I was better looking than that," Murray said at the time. There will be a second opportunity for a more realistic-looking statue of the two-time Wimbledon champion as Murray will be involved in the design process of the statue that will be revealed at the All-England Club in 2027. Cristiano Ronaldo (2017) To many, he's the G.O.A.T. of the soccer world. In the sports statue world, he was honored with the G.O.A.T. depiction at the Madeira Airport in Portugal. The airport changed its name to Aeroporto Internacional da Madeira Cristiano Ronaldo and unveiled a bust of the soccer legend. The reaction was not positive and a new sculpture was installed a year later. Diego Maradona (2017) The Argentinian soccer god was on-hand for the 12-foot statue's unveiling in Kolkata, India. He is depicted holding the World Cup trophy. Some pointed out his resemblance to the likes of Larry Bird, singer Susan Boyle and actress Betty White. Michael Essien (2018) The Chelsea and Real Madrid legend was honored in his native Ghana by a local sculptor. Little is known about the inspiration behind the statue, other than to provide nightmare fuel for those who look at it. Mo Salah (2018) Unveiled in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the Liverpool star is shown celebrating one of his many goals with his trademark pose. Is it Salah or does it more closely resemble singer Art Garfunkel or Daniel Stern's "Marv Murchins" character from "Home Alone." Brandi Chastain (2018) While not a statue, this plaque of U.S. soccer legend Brandi Chastain deserves a mention. Chastain, who famous scored the winning penalty kick in the 1999 Women's World Cup Final, was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. The image they used of her was so bad that she was asked to send a photo of herself in order for a redo. David Beckham (2019) Unlike the temporary statue put up by H&M when Beckham was modeling underwear, the one the Los Angeles Galaxy commissioned had the soccer legend fully clothed, though he did resemble Gordon Ramsay a bit. It was still better than the one he thought the MLS side was using, until late night host James Corden revealed it was a prank. Dwyane Wade (2024) The basketball Hall of Famer was honored by the Miami Heat with a statue outside of the team's arena, Kaseya Center. The depiction of Wade was of him after hitting a game-winning shot in double-overtime in 2009, after which he stood on the scorer's table and declared: "This is my house!" The problem was that it didn't really look like him.
