Storm chances increase with potential severe weather this week

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – A few storms linger this evening as a line of stronger weather pushes in from Texas. This line of storms looks to arrive in Acadiana by 10 p.m. but should come to and end by midnight. Afterwards, quiet weather settles in as temperatures drop into the 70s. Monday starts out dry, but a stalled front will lead to widespread storm chances in the afternoon hours. These storms could produce strong winds, hail, and flooding as they slowly move from west to east across the area, coming to an end in the evening hours. Highs Monday afternoon reach near 90. The tropics remain quiet and look to stay that way through the next 7 days Locally, this week will see wet conditions with rounds of showers and thunderstorms as the front stalls along the coast. Each day, a low-end severe threat will exist for the area along with potential flooding. By next weekend, we will see somewhat drier conditions with daily summertime pop-up storms. Heavy rain causing flooding problems for Boardman neighborhood

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Heavy rain is proving to be an issue for some local residents. It's not only flooding streets and backyards, but also inside their homes. It's an issue that residents say hasn't happened since 2019, but after Friday's heavy rain, it's a problem that can't be ignored. 'At this point, I'm getting paranoid of what's going to happen. Is my basement going to flood?' said Melanie Timmings, a Huntington Woods resident. 'The rain started and the flooding started occurring, and it just didn't stop for at least an hour,' said Greg Pugh, another Huntington Woods resident. Many residents living in the Huntington Woods neighborhood share the same concerns. Video shows water rushing from Tippecannoe Road through the Huntington Ridge condos before running into the yards in Huntington Woods. Yards were left with debris washed in from the flood, and a part of a resident's wall was damaged in the process. Residents say when the water backs up, it not only floods out of their backyards but also into their basements and garages. 'I did have some seeping through the walls. Luckily, my sump pump was working to its potential and doing its job. We did get the water cleaned up, but [I'm] fearful every time it rains — what's going to happen to my house?' Timmings said. The flooding also creates an impact on traffic. With only two ways to enter and exit Huntington Woods, residents say it forces them to stay home. 'If it gets real bad and if the road's flooded and we have severe weather, how do we get out if the roads are blocked?' Pugh said. Residents hope township officials will look into the issue and that a solution will be found. 'This can't be happening every time it rains. People's houses are getting damaged, basements flooded. It's just not right,' Pugh said. 'Hopefully, the city takes this seriously and something can be done about it so it doesn't happen again,' Timmings said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Tropical Storm Barbara strengthens off Mexico and is expected to become a hurricane

MEXICO CITY — Tropical Storm Barbara was strengthening Sunday off the southwest coast of Mexico and was expected to become a hurricane but without menacing land, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Barbara was located about 170 miles (275 kilometers) south-west of the touristic port of Zihuatanejo in Guerrero state, according to the center. It had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph), and was moving west-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph). No coastal watches or warnings were issued. The storm is expected to become a hurricane later Sunday as it moves west-northwest for two more days, before turning toward west into the Pacific by Tuesday, forecasters said. Barbara formed off the southwest coast of Mexico earlier Sunday. Heavy rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 centimeters), with amounts of up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) in limited areas, are possible across portions of the Mexican states of Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco through Monday. Th rainfall may lead to flooding and mudslides. Swells affecting portions of the southwestern Mexico coast for the next few days can produce life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, the hurricane center said.
