Launching a series of initiatives under the revenue department, the CM said, "In today's tech-driven world, we must prioritise the integration of advanced technologies and AI in disaster preparedness and response. Alongside this, creating public awareness and enhancing the skills of workers and volunteers involved in rescue operations is absolutely crucial."
As part of the unveiling, the CM inaugurated several new projects, including a Technology Demonstration Unit at Hapania, the civil defence training scheme, 26 automated weather stations and rain gauges across the state, a disaster management equipment verification portal, and a change of land use (diversion of land) portal.
Developed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, these initiatives aim to revolutionise disaster preparedness and strengthen governance. Highlighting the state's vulnerability, Saha recalled the devastation caused by Cyclone Sitrang (2022), Cyclone Mocha (2023), Cyclone Remal (2024), and the major floods of 2018 and 2024, he added.
"Thousands of volunteers will be trained at the technology demonstration unit. Under the civil defence training scheme, 2,880 volunteers will receive specialized training to strengthen first-response capabilities during emergencies," he added.
The CM further emphasised the importance of accurate and real-time weather data in disaster mitigation. He announced plans for a Doppler Weather Radar Station in Belonia, while 26 automated weather monitoring stations and rain gauges have already been installed across Tripura.
To streamline operations, the CM also launched the disaster management equipment verification portal, which will help track equipment availability across districts, subdivisions, and TSR battalions.

Revenue of KTC Smart City e-buses stands 1.5 crore lower than projected

Porvorim: Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) has reported a significant revenue shortfall from its Smart City electric bus operations in Panaji. Against the projected revenue of Rs 3.4 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, the actual earnings between July 2024 and March 2025 stood at approximately Rs 1.9 crore. The revenue gap is Rs 1.5 crore. Minister for transport Mauvin Godinho said, 'The shortfall in revenue is primarily attributed to the continued operation of private bus operators providing city bus services in Panaji, which has impacted the ridership on Smart City electric buses.' Godinho was replying to a question tabled by MLA Viresh Borkar. A total of 48 Smart City EVs are currently operating in Panaji and the surrounding areas. These buses ply on seven designated routes: yellow, red, indigo, blue, green, orange, and violet. In all, 18 lakh passengers travelled by these electric buses from July 2024 to March 2025, covering 11 lakh km in this duration. 'The concept of Smart City buses was to operate without conductors, for which pole-mounted validators were fixed for tapping the Smart Transit Card or validating the QR code generated on an app,' Godinho said. 'However, commuters were hesitant to use Smart City buses, adapting to the new system,' he said. The minister reiterated that private bus operations further impacted the ridership numbers.

Representational Image A little research before buying any product is done by all on Google or Youtube. But this managed to purchase a MacBook cheaper than in India and enjoyed an 11-day international trip along with it. How Man Saved Rs 36000 On MacBook? On social media platform Reddit, a user shared how he boarded a flight just to get a better deal on a laptop. He traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam, and bought a MacBook and saved Rs 36,500 in the process. He narrated his whole experience on Reddit and explained how the savings from the laptop covered an 11-day trip to Hanoi. What Made This Deal Possible? The price of the MacBook was lower in Vietnam compared to India. He benefited from a tax refund and favorable exchange rates. As a bonus, he also enjoyed a vacation. One major reason Apple products are more expensive in India is the high import duties, along with GST. These taxes increase the cost of devices like the iPhone and MacBook. Whereas Vietnam has lower import duties on electronics. Also, the government allows tourists to claim back VAT (Value Added Tax) so it becomes an ideal destination for tech-savvy travelers who want to shop and explore. How He Saved Thousands? The Reddit user explained that the MacBook model was priced at Rs 1.85 lakh in India, In Vietnam it cost only Rs 1.48 lakh. Even with credit card offers in India, the price was high. He chose a store in Vietnam that could provide documents for VAT refunds. Before boarding his return flight, he completed the VAT refund process at the airport, which was showing the laptop and submitting paperwork. Once the refund was processed, the effective price of the MacBook went down even further. How He Did Trip To Vietnam For Rs 48000? The total cost of his trip came to Rs 2.08 lakh, which included flight tickets, accommodation, food, local transport, and the MacBook. After receiving the VAT refund, his overall expense declined to Rs 1.97 lakh. Deducting the MacBook cost (Rs 1.48 lakh), his vacation expenses came to just Rs 48,000 for which he spent 11 days in Hanoi. He managed to work and explore the city during this time. He Worked Remotely. The Reddit user also mentioned that he worked remotely during his trip, allowing him to continue earning while enjoying his vacation.
