According to Parks Canada, the fire ban was put in place due to extremely dry conditions. The fire ban is in place until further notice, and conditions will be monitored daily and restrictions will be adjusted accordingly. Possibility of funnel clouds in southwestern Manitoba
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a special weather statement for southwestern Manitoba, due to favourable conditions for funnel clouds. Uploaded Aug. 9, 2025. (Environment and Climate Change Canada) Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather statement for southwestern Manitoba, warning that conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds throughout the day. A similar condition yesterday led to a few reports of funnel clouds in Saskatchewan and it appears to be more favourable for today, the agency said. 'These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms,' the statement reads. 'This rotation is normally not a danger near the ground, but there is a chance it could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.' ECCC notes the landspout tornadoes usually do not cause significant damage but can still be dangerous - strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances. If conditions worsen, the agency says it will issue tornado watches or warnings as needed. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued.

‘Stay out of the woods': New Brunswick closing Crown lands due to extreme wildfire hazard

(Derek Haggett/CTV Atlantic) Those living in and visiting New Brunswick are being told to stay off Crown lands due to an 'extreme wildfire hazard.' On Saturday, the province announced as of 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, all Crown lands will be closed. This means: hiking, camping, fishing and the use of vehicles in the woods are not permitted trail systems through woods are off limits camping is allowed only in campgrounds, but the public is being asked to reconsider their camping plans until such time the forest fire risk decreases 'Get out of the woods and stay out of the woods,' Premier Susan Holt said Saturday. The province did not announce an increase in fines for those deemed breaking the rules. Officials are also asking people to take the same precautions on private lands. As of noon Saturday, the province said there were seven active wildfires, including the one in the Miramichi area which is out of control. This is a developing story. More to come.
