Free Streaming Service Zone-ify Offers Video Games Via TV Remote In An AVOD First
EXCLUSIVE: After staging a tariff-inspired U.S.-vs.-Canada wrestling event last month, free streaming platform Zone-ify is rolling out a feature enabling viewers to play video games via their TV remote.
The Toronto-based company says it is the first native gaming offering by an AVOD service. Through a partnership with interactive technology firm ES3, a dozen game titles are packaged with the core TV experience, without requiring downloads, consoles or mobile devices. The strategy is similar to where Netflix is going in subscription streaming, with a mobile-only game offering set to expand to the living-room app in the next year or two.

At launch, the games will be available through U.S. pay-TV providers Comcast Xfinity, Cox Contour, Buckeye Cable, DirecTV U-verse and Rogers Xfinity and Videotron Helix in Canada. Connected TV and smart-TV platforms Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Google TV (on Sony, TCL and Hisense sets).
The gaming component will launch soon on Roku, Apple TV, Samsung, LG and Vizio, Zone-ify said.
Now available in 16 million pay-TV homes and 422 million consumer devices, Zone-ify saw a lift from last month's wrestling event. Dubbed the 'Border Brawl,' it boosted live watch time 13 times over average levels, the company said, without specifying the number of viewers.
The addition of games means that the company is 'not just a streaming service anymore – we're a full-scale entertainment platform,' Zone-ify President Doug Edwards said. 'We are evolving into a destination for watching, playing, and engaging – all in one place.'
The company has plans to rapidly expand its game catalog and offer customized titles for advertisers and sponsors.
Zone-ify's news came on the opening day of the Stream TV Show in Denver. Executives from Amazon, Tubi, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBCUniversal and other companies are taking part in panel discussions through Friday.

‘In Your Dreams' Teaser: The Search for the Sandman Powers Netflix's New Animated Sibling Fantasy
Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for its animated Oscar-hopeful, 'In Your Dreams' (streaming November 14), the original comedy-fantasy about siblings trying to save their parents' marriage by enlisting the aid of the mythical Sandman. Former Pixar story artist Alex Woo ('WALL-E') directs with Erik Benson, another ex-Pixar story artist ('Toy Story 4'). The film is produced by Netflix Animation and Woo's Kuku Studios, with animation by Sony Pictures Imageworks. The voice cast is led by Cristin Milioti as the mom and Simu Liu as the dad. 'In Your Dreams' finds Stevie (voiced by Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) and her brother Elliot (voiced by Elias Janssen) discovering a magic book, which allows them to enter the wacky realm of their dreams, where the Sandman (Omid Djalili) can grant their wish for the perfect family. Along the way, they encounter Elliot's long-lost sarcastic stuffed giraffe, Baloney Tony (Craig Robinson), zombie breakfast foods, and Nightmara (Gia Carides), the Sandman's rival. He presented footage Thursday at the Annecy Animation Film Festival with production designer Steve Pilcher ('Soul') and VFX supervisor Nicola Lavender ('The Mitchells vs. the Machines'). Accompanying the sumptuous animation of the surreal landscapes are compelling themes of managing dual careers while being caring, nurturing parents, the importance of imagination and not giving up on your dream, and learning to cope with harsh realities as a part of growing up. And be careful what you wish for. At Annecy, Netflex Animation (led by Hannah Minghella, head of Netflix Feature Animation and Family Film) touted sneak peeks of two upcoming animated series, 'Stranger Things: Tales from '85' (from showrunner Eric Robles), and 'Long Story Short' (from 'Bojack Horseman's' Raphael Bob-Waksberg, streaming August 22), as well as the features 'KPop Demon Hunters' (directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, streaming June 20), the Roald Dahl-adapted 'The Twits' (directed by Phil Johnston, streaming in the fall), and 'Pookoo' (from Skydance Animation and director Nathan Greno, streaming in 2026). Genndy Tartakovsky Developing Wild High Octane Animated Series HEIST SAFARI For Adult Swim — GeekTyrant
Genndy Tartakovsky, the creative mind behind Dexter's Laboratory , Samurai Jack , and Primal is charging back onto the Adult Swim lineup with a new animated series called Heist Safari , and it sounds like pure, beautiful chaos. The show is described as an 'animated high octane action comedy,' and it tells the story of three frog brothers who rob a bank. 'Seems simple enough, but the execution is special as !#&$??!!!!,' That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the tone of this show. It sounds exactly the kind of unhinged, full-throttle animation Tartakovsky thrives in. He always manages to hit that perfect sweet spot between absurdity and genius. Heist Safari was actuslly first pitched live on stage a year ago at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival to Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen. Now, one year later, it's officially in the works because apparently when Genndy throws an idea out into the wild, the universe listens. Tartakovsky is currently promoting Fixed , his raunchy new Netflix movie made under his Sony Animation deal, and he also packed the house at a Cartoon Network Studios panel celebrating 25 years of boundary-pushing animation. Reflecting on his career and creative momentum, Tartakovsky said, 'It feels like when I was younger, I feel like that energy makes me still want to do new things.' That energy?
