'KPop Demon Hunters' HUNTR/X makes history as ‘Golden' hits No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

HUNTR/X's "Golden" has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making the group the first all-women collective of three or more members to top the chart in 24 years, since Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" in August 2001. The aspirational track, voiced by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, comes from the soundtrack to the hit animated Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters. It marks the first Hot 100 leader for the group and female K-pop act and the ninth song linked to Korean pop to top the chart. Previous No. 1s in the genre include BTS's six chart-toppers between 2020 and 2021, along with "Seven" by Jung Kook featuring Latto and "Like Crazy" by Jimin in 2023. "Golden" also becomes the first Hot 100 No. 1 by an act with a fictional background since "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Disney's Encanto, which reigned for five weeks in 2022. During the tracking week of 1–7 August, the single earned 31.7 million official streams in the United States, up 9% from the previous week. It also registered 8.4 million radio airplay audience impressions, a 71% increase, and sold 7,000 downloads, up 35%. The track continues to lead the Billboard Soundtracks chart for a seventh week, solidifying its chance at winning the Oscar for the Best Original Song category for which is has been submitted as a contender. In a rare move for a Netflix release, KPop Demon Hunters will also head to cinemas later this month. Select Regal Theatres will host sing-along screenings on August 23 and 24, marking the first widespread theatrical release of the film.

Ozzy Osbourne honored in Birmingham funeral procession as fans gather at Black Sabbath Bridge

Fans gathered in Birmingham, England, on July 30 to honor Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath, during his funeral procession. Osbourne passed away last week at the age of 76. Born and raised in Birmingham, the city was not only his hometown but also the birthplace of Black Sabbath. "Ozzy was more than a music legend — he was a son of Birmingham," Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal said in a statement on Tuesday. The procession made its way down Broad Street toward the Black Sabbath Bridge, which includes life-size cutouts of Osbourne and fellow founding members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Fans have flocked to the bridge in recent days, leaving floral tributes, handwritten notes, and photos in memory of the man known as the Prince of Darkness. One tribute tied to the bridge — an Aston Villa shirt — read: 'Final Stop On The Crazy Train? But Metal Lives Forever,' referencing Osbourne's hit single 'Crazy Train' from his 1980 solo debut. Since his death, the song surged in popularity, breaking into the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time at No. 46. For those unable to attend in person, the city offered a livestream of the memorial site. Iqbal said it was vital to provide 'a fitting, dignified tribute' before Osbourne's private family funeral. Osbourne had retired from touring in 2023 after revealing a Parkinson's diagnosis. Just weeks before his death, he reunited with Black Sabbath for a surprise performance in Birmingham. "You have no idea how I feel," Osbourne told a crowd of over 40,000 that night. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Atlanta rapper Ca$h Out sentenced to life for trafficking, rape, and rico conviction

Atlanta rapper Ca$h Out, whose real name is John-Michael Gibson, has been sentenced to life in prison, plus 70 additional years, after being convicted on multiple charges, including rape and racketeering. According to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office, Gibson was found guilty on July 18, 2025, of leading a prostitution ring and violating Georgia's Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The charges against Gibson also included aggravated sodomy, two counts of trafficking persons for sexual servitude, pimping, pandering, battery, possession of a firearm during a felony, and maintaining a place of prostitution. He was acquitted on a single count of felony aggravated assault, his defense attorney Careton R. Matthews confirmed. The rapper, known for his early 2010s hits 'Cashin' Out' and 'She Twerkin,' had been on trial since June 2 in Fulton County Superior Court before Judge Melynee Leftridge. During the proceedings, Matthews argued that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence and claimed the testimony of several accusers was inconsistent and unreliable. Gibson's co-defendants included his mother, Linda Smith, and associate Tyrone Taylor, both of whom were also convicted. Smith received a 30-year sentence, while Taylor was sentenced to life plus 70 years. Prosecutors told the jury that the group operated a criminal enterprise using deception and coercion to recruit and exploit women. Judge Leftridge, before handing down the sentences, stated that the evidence showed 'the very worst of human behavior toward other human beings,' according to WXIA-TV. Matthews said his client continues to maintain his innocence and may pursue an appeal or request a new trial. Gibson rose to fame in 2011 after signing with Epic Records and reaching No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Cashin' Out.'
