Jackson Herrington advances to 125th U.S. Amateur Championship finals
Tennessee's Jackson Herrington advanced to the finals of the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship with a victory at Olympic Golf Course in San Francisco, California. Herrington will play high school junior Mason Howell, a 2016 Georgia commit, in the 36-hole championship match Sunday at 1:15 p.m. EDT. Herrington and Howell will play 18 holes before breaking for lunch. They will return to the course for 18 holes. Herrington, who reached the Round of 32 of the U.S. Amateur Championship last year at Hazeltine National in Chaska, Minnesota, made a hole-in-one in his first match. In Saturday's semifinal, Herrington defeated Niall Shiels Donegan, a junior who will attend North Carolina this year after playing two seasons at Northwestern, one up. Howell, a junior at Brockwood High School in Snellville, Georgia, defeated Oklahoma State junior Eric Lee 3 and 2 in Saturday's other semifinal. By advancing to a championship match, Herrington and Howell have received an exemption to the 2026 US Open. Both may also receive an invitation to the 2026 Masters. The U.S. Amateur champion will also qualify for the U.S. Walker Cup Team.

Teenagers Jackson Herrington, Mason Howell advance to 2025 U.S. Amateur championship match
A pair of teenagers are going to battle it out for the Havemeyer Trophy on Sunday. Jackson Herrington, the 19-year-old sophomore at Tennessee, will face off against 18-year-old high school senior Mason Howell in the championship match of the 2025 U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club. Herrington topped local favorite Niall Shiels Donegan 1 up on Saturday to advance, birdieing the 18th hole, while Howell knocked off rising Oklahoma State junior Eric Lee 3 and 2 to advance. In the semifinal, Herrington led 2 up with three holes to play against Donegan but stepped to the 18th tee tied. He hit his approach shot to 5 feet and buried the birdie look, locking his spot into the championship match. Last year, Herrington made the Round of 32 in the U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National, including the first ace in match play since 2018 in his Round of 64 win. Howell, a 2026 Georgia commit, lost the second hole and fell down early but won consecutive holes on Nos. 6-7 to take the lead. Lee tied the match on the eighth, but Howell won Nos. 11, 13 and 16 to close out the match. Howell, in his first U.S. Amateur, has a chance to become the second 63-seed to win the U.S. Amateur, joining Steven Fox in 2012. Earlier this year, Howell won medalist honors at the U.S. Junior Amateur at Trinity Forest and qualified for the U.S. Open by shooting 63-63 in his qualifier in Georgia. By virtue of advancing into the championship match, Herrington and Howell both received exemptions into the 2026 U.S. Open and likely invitations to the 2026 Masters. The winner will also qualify for the U.S. Walker Cup team, with the competition beginning three weeks from Saturday at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California. The 36-hole championship final will begin at 1:15 p.m. ET Sunday. Players will complete 18 holes before a lunch break then tee off for the final 18 in the afternoon.
