Adam Levine Recalls Conversation with Blake Shelton About Dissing Each Other on 'The Voice' and How Hard They'd Go

Yahoo29-04-2025
Adam Levine and Blake Shelton didn't want to hurt each other's feelings on The Voice.
In a new interview on the April 28 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Maroon 5 frontman recalled having a conversation with Shelton when they started as coaches on The Voice about how far they'd go when playfully dissing each other from their respective red chairs.
Levine, who coached on The Voice for its first 16 seasons and recently returned for season 27, first joked about not missing Shelton's presence on the show. "He's just not a memorable guy," he said. "I forgot who he was. I don't know who you're talking about."

After admitting he remembers the country star quite well, the "Beautiful Mistakes" singer recalled feeling "really comfortable" with Shelton "right away" upon starting on the NBC singing competition series.
"When we started The Voice, like, no one knew. It is now what it is, but back then it was a mess. Like, no one knew what was going to happen," explained Levine. "They threw these people, these four people in these four turning chairs. And this is something we all know about now, but back then we were like, 'This is weird.' And so we all felt like part of this team, you know?"
The Grammy winner noted he and Shelton "started kind of dissing each other casually" before addressing their budding dynamic as frenemies. "We had a really specific moment where we were in each other's trailers," he said. "I was like, 'Hey, is there ever too far? Is there a too far for you? Is there an over the line for you?'"

Levine continued, "And he's like, 'Buddy, you hit me as hard as you want. You will never go too hard.' And I think he pretty much stayed true to that."
"I got more sensitive than he did," joked the "Moves Like Jagger" performer.
Maroon 5's most recent album, Jordi, was released in 2021. The band is set to release a new single, "Priceless" featuring Lisa of BLACKPINK, on May 2.

Elsewhere in the Late Night interview, Levine spoke about how the new song marks a return to form for the group. "It was really different this time around because we really got back to the basics of how we started," he said.
"As time went on, songwriters came in, and we did a lot of collaborations with a lot of different people, which was amazing and led to an amazing run of hits and all that. But this was kind of back to just the organic, kind of simple, all created in-house," detailed Levine.

Star Trek's 60th anniversary to be celebrated with waves of toys

For its 60th anniversary, the Star Trek franchise is going where it's never gone before – in terms of action figures. The groundbreaking original TV series debuted on NBC back on Sept. 8, 1966, spawning a fleet of subsequent movie and TV enterprises, including "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," currently in its third season on Paramount+, and the in-production "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy," set to arrive on Paramount+ in 2026. With the space franchise's upcoming 60th anniversary looming, fans will likely engage in a massive celebration. Collectors already have plenty to get excited about. The first wave of figures, expected to be due later this year, includes characters never made available as action figures before, among them Capt. Jellico ("Star Trek: Prodigy"), Peter Preston from "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," and Valkris, a female Klingon from "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". The Nacelle Company, perhaps best known for TV specials such as "Kevin Hart's Guide to Black History" and "Down to Earth with Zac Efron" (both on Netflix), acquired the rights to market Star Trek playsets and accessories in 2024. The company has already announced that a host of action figures is in the works. Anniversary cruise: 'Star Trek' cruise will celebrate show's 60th birthday with William Shatner and more stars Those figures, which are one-twelfth size (roughly six or seven inches tall) can be pre-ordered now (priced individually at $28.99), will be followed by three additional waves: The arrival of a new line of Star Trek action figures "indicates how meaningful, and relevant, this series is, even 60 years later. And that makes me very proud," said Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, son of the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, in a statement to USA TODAY. "The Original Series holds a special place in the history of Star Trek, in the history of science fiction, and in the history of television," Roddenberry said. "I am thrilled to see it being honored in conjunction with Star Trek's 60th." Roddenberry wasn't ready to share other aspects of the 60th anniversary just yet. "But rest assured it's Roddenberry's intention to provide Trek fans the opportunity to be part of the celebration and engage in the Trek community," added Roddenberry, who suggested Trekkies follow the brand on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and YouTube. Nacelle CEO and founder Brian Volk-Weiss comes by his interest in Star Trek toys honestly, as the owner of a collection of more than 5,000 toys. He chose the company's name based on a word for the housing of a starship's warp engines. "I'm a lifelong Star Trek toy collector and a lifelong fan," Volk-Weiss told USA TODAY. When meeting with Paramount to secure the licensing, Volk-Weiss said he told the studio he planned to cater to Trekkies who want action figures beyond the obvious characters, such as Kirk and Picard. "Where's Captain Garrett? Where's Captain Jellico? Where is Peter Preston?" he said. "That was my pitch. …. What I basically said was, 'I believe the base of the Star Trek community is strong enough to give them what they want – and Valkris is the greatest example – even if it's a character that was on screen for 81 seconds, 35 years ago.'" The company's plan for releasing action figures is to alternate waves of figures who commanded a starship bridge with waves of assorted characters. When Nacelle announced it would be releasing Star Trek toys, it included an email address in the news release encouraging fans to chime in on figures they would like to see. Decisions on which ones to produce were "absolutely 100% influenced by that," Volk-Weiss said. Nacelle has announced a total of four waves of action figures to "assure the community this is not going to be a two-wave line," Volk-Weiss said, adding that "we have to make everybody feel confident we're going to go the distance." The toys, which are made in China, would fall under President Trump's unsettled tariff policy. But Volk-Weiss said the company plans to "keep everything on schedule and keep the prices locked," with Nacelle's other divisions helping to manage any impact on the profit margins. "My goal is to make this the most successful Star Trek (toy) line ever or at least tie Playmates from their original '90s run," Volk-Weiss said. "So if I want to do that, I can't raise my prices and I can't slow anything down because keeping the trust of the community – this sounds cheesy, but it's true – if we lose (that), the line will fail." Wave One is available for pre-order and is expected to ship out this fall. Available for $28.99 each; $225 for a bundle of all eight figures: Watch: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Wave Two figures, announced in March 2025 at WonderCon in Anaheim, California, will be available for pre-order soon and released in 2026: Wave Three figures, which features the "Star Trek" original series cast in their duty uniforms and a 60th anniversary surprise two-pack of unannounced characters, was made public in July at the San Diego Comic-Con and will be available for pre-order soon and released in 2026: Wave Four figures, also announced in July at the San Diego Comic-Con, will be going on sale in mid-to-late 2026: Mike Snider is a national trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Sabrina Carpenter Jumps Back Into The Top 10 Just Before Dropping A New Album

In a few days, Sabrina Carpenter's breakout album Short n' Sweet will turn one year old. The pop superstar released the full-length on August 23, 2024, and as she prepares to celebrate the title's first anniversary, she's also gearing up to deliver another full-length to the world. Man's Best Friend is expected to drop at the end of the month, and Carpenter is likely focusing her attention on that studio effort as well as its lead single 'Manchild.' Short n' Sweet was so massively successful that there's a lot of anticipation for Man's Best Friend and what she has coming next. But that doesn't mean that Americans have stopped listening to the recently-named Grammy winner's album that turned her into a household name. Short n' Sweet Nears the Top Tier on Three Billboard Charts Just two weeks shy of its first year on the Billboard rankings, Short n' Sweet climbs across multiple tallies this frame. The project, which collected the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy, appears on four rosters, and it lifts on all of them. Short n' Sweet sits just below the top 10 on three of those rankings, as the hit-packed pop effort improves on the Top Streaming Albums, Vinyl Albums, and Top Album Sales charts, coming in at Nos. 12, 13, and 14, respectively. Sabrina Carpenter Returns to the Top 10 Short n' Sweet beats those positions on the Billboard 200, where it rockets back into the top 10. This time around, Carpenter pushes her sixth LP from No. 16 to No. 10. Luminate reports that the set enjoyed a growth in total consumption of almost 5%, and that in the past tracking period, it moved just under 30,000 equivalent units throughout the United States. 'Espresso,' 'Please Please Please' and 'Taste' Live on the Global Lists While 'Manchild' is the focus for Carpenter, and that tune reaches a new high point on several of Billboard's pop radio rankings, the three biggest singles from Short n' Sweet also live on multiple tallies. 'Espresso,' 'Please Please Please,' and 'Taste' can be found on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excluding U.S., and in every instance, they climb. 'Espresso,' which helped introduce Carpenter to a mass audience after years of hard work, even keeps at No. 5 on the Adult Contemporary ranking well over a year after it debuted.
