LIMPOPO – Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) top goal scorer Ishmael Maluleke has found a new calling off the pitch. The Giyani-born footballer is dedicating his post-playing career to nurturing young talent and giving back to the community that shaped him.
Maluleke, who famously netted 18 goals during the 2000–2001 PSL season to clinch the top scorer title, now heads both the Gazaa Football Academy and Gazaa Netball Academy. These initiatives focus on developing future sports stars between the ages of 7 and 21.
'There is life after soccer,' said Maluleke. 'I've shifted my focus to development and coaching. There's so much local talent, and I want to use my experience to help produce the next generation of stars.'
He revealed that plans are underway to launch a sports agency focussed on talent identification and providing broader opportunities for young athletes.
After retiring from professional football in 2009 due to injury, Maluleke explored other avenues in the sport. He is now a respected soccer analyst on the Xitsonga radio station, Mughana Lonene FM, where he shares football insights with listeners.
In addition, he serves as chairman of the South African Football Association (SAFA) in Giyani, overseeing the standard of soccer in the region.
Beyond football, Maluleke is also active in ministry. He is the eldest son of Pastor Dr Selina Maluleke and serves under her leadership, preaching and promoting values rooted in faith and community service.
Most recently, Maluleke participated in the Grannies International Football Tournament held in Nkowankowa. He served as both commentator and analyst during the matches and also took on the role of programme director for the tournament's closing ceremony.

Orlando Pirates: FIVE most valuable players and their price tags

Orlando Pirates boast some of the most exciting and valuable players in the whole PSL. Orlando Pirates have drawn interest from the likes of Kaizer Chiefs as well as clubs abroad. However, for any prospective club seeking to sign a Bucs star, they must be willing to dig deep into their pockets. This is because Pirates have some of the most valuable players in the PSL. * Please note that all of these values are based off of the reported latest player values on Transfermarkt. 1. Tshegofatso Mabasa – R37.3 MILLION Exciting and versatile attacker, Mabasa is the most highly-valued Pirates player. His $1.8 million player evaluation gives him a staggering player value of over R37 million (R37.3 million). 2. Relebohile Mofokeng/ Nkosinathi Sibisi/ Deono Van Rooyan – R33 MILLION (R33.17 MILLION) Mofokeng, Sibisi and Van Rooyan all share a transfer market value estimation of $1.6 million. This equates to over R33 million per player. So, all three men are worth roughly over R33 million. However, Mofokeng will likely be worth more than Sibisi and Van Rooyan for prospective clubs. Interestingly, Sibisi is one of the men earmarked to become the next Pirates captain. Meanwhile, Van Rooyan is one of the most valuable signings made by Pirates in recent seasons after joining the Bucs at the start of the season. 3. Patrick Maswanganyi – R25 MILLION (R24.87 MILLION) Maswanganyi has a market value of $1.2 million which is almost R25 million (R24.87 MILLION). So, this sees him as one of the most valuable players at Pirates. Furtermore, he is also one of the most valuable attackers in the PSL. However, despite his R25 million market value, reports claim that Pirates have slapped a R40-million price tag on their star attacker. 4. Sipho Chaine, Tapelo Xoki, Thalenthe Mbatha, Monnapule Saleng – R20.7 MILLION Chaine, Xoki, Mbatha and Saleng all have an estimated transfer market value of $1 million. Meaning, all four talented Bucs stars are worth over R20 million (R20.7 million). This speaks volumes to the depth in the current Bucs side. Chaine has gone from playing for the Bucs DDC side to being one of the most high-valued goalkeepers in the PSL. Meanwhile, Xoki is another Pirates star shortlisted to take over the Bucs captaincy from Innocent Maela. Whilst, Mbatha has been one of, if not, the best Bucs signings in recent memory. Meanwhile, Saleng has not played in 2025 and his future remains in the air but that has not affected his player evaluation much. 5. Evidence Makgopa – (R18.65 MILLION) Bafana Bafana and Pirates striker, Makgopa is worth $900 000 (R18.65 million). The lanky and strong forward is a menace in the air. So, it is no suprise that he is 'highly' valued (pun-intended). He is one of the most valuable Bafana Bafana stars in the PSL. These are the latest player evaluations as of the end of the 2024/25 PSL season. Understandably, Pirates player ranks and values have skyrocketed after they reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs player values have plummeted after they finished ninth in the recent BetWay Premiership. Here are Chiefs most-valuable player and their new price tags. However, more factors are considered when determining a transfer fee such as the players age, current form and the need for that player in the prospective squad.
