'Nesting birds can be spotted during the summer months'
About the birds that can be easily spotted during summer months, birder and avian photographer Mohit Mehta says, 'Indian pitta and Indian paradise flycatchers are summer-breeding birds which come to Bhondsi Nature Park for nesting. The male flycatchers have a long tail, making them beautiful to photograph. Chestnut-bellied sandgrouse camouflage themselves in agricultural fields and Jhanjhrola grassland is the best place to spot them.
The tallest flying cranes – sarus crane – breed in Gurgaon and can be spotted in Chandu Budhera. It is also a good time to spot resident birds like the red avadavat.'

Nineteen-year-old birder Gurnoor Dhillon, who hosts bird walks in Gurgaon, says, 'The black-headed cuckooshrike's singing in the Aravalli region is a treat for bird enthusiasts. Three bee-eater species also arrive in NCR. The blue-tailed bee-eater are commonly spotted in Bhondsi and Mangar (Faridabad).
The blue-cheeked bee-eater is seen along the water bodies like Najafgarh Jheel, Chandu, Surajpur. Jungle prinias start calling in summer and can be seen in Gurgaon's green belts.

'Birders should wear a cap and opt for light clothes to stay safe from the heat'
Summer is a great time for birdwatching, but birders should take precautions to stay safe from the heat, says Pankaj Gupta, who is leading the Delhi Bird Atlas initiative. He says, 'Many resident birds are breeding now, and they look their best with bright and colourful feathers. Some summer visitors like the Indian paradise flycatcher, golden oriole and Indian pitta also arrive to breed. They are very beautiful and a photographers' muse.
But, in order to remain safe from the heat, birders should wear a cap, opt for light clothes and stay hydrated.'

Kothari completes full marathon at 90 degree north pole
At 90° North, where every direction is south and the Arctic Ocean lies frozen beneath, the Indian tricolour was raised — not on a pole, but in the hands of a man running into history. On July 13, 2025, Kolkata-born entrepreneur Ram Gopal Kothari became the first Indian to finish a full marathon at the Geographic North Pole, joining a select group of athletes to conquer one of the planet's harshest racecourses. The North Pole Marathon takes place on drifting sea ice over water three metres deep, under –8°C temperatures, biting winds, and occasional polar bear sightings. In 2025, Kothari — in his debut full marathon — ran alongside participants from around the world. The journey began in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, aboard the French icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot, navigating to 90°N through solid ice, spotting polar bears, walruses, and blue whales along the way. Kothari crossed the halfway mark in 2 hours 45 minutes, but from kilometre 28, melting snow turned to slush, soaking his shoes and causing severe cramps. 'I had every reason to stop,' he said. 'But I wasn't just running on ice — I was running on a promise and a belief that India belongs everywhere, even at the top of the world.' He finished in just over eight hours. Raised in Kolkata's Burrabazar in a modest home, Kothari overcame early financial struggles and a personal crisis in 2012 that nearly claimed his life. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Seniors Are Snapping Up This TV Box, We Explain! Living abroad comes with its fair share of curiosity and confusion—especially when you're from India. Sheenam Gautam , now based in Germany, recently revealed on Instagram the amusing and often bizarre questions she encounters as an Indian abroad. With wit and humour, she tackles each misconception, offering playful yet pointed answers that highlight both the curiosity and ignorance foreigners often display about common question Gautam faces is whether India has WiFi. She jokingly points out that not only does India have WiFi, but sometimes it's faster than people expect. Similarly, she addresses assumptions about the country's climate, emphasising its diversity—from scorching plains to cool mountains, deserts, beaches, and rainforests. She also tackles the stereotype that Indians eat curry daily, reminding her audience with a smile that cuisine is far more assumptions come up frequently, too. People often compliment her English, expecting it to be broken or heavily accented. She responds humorously that she learned it in England's 'favorite colony,' highlighting the irony. And of course, Bollywood fame comes into play, with strangers assuming she personally knows stars like Shahrukh Khan—something she answers with a witty nod to her family, and lifestyle questions are never-ending. Many ask if she is a vegetarian for religious reasons or if she lives in a massive joint family. Gautam clarifies, mixing humour and reality: she enjoys paneer because it's delicious, not religiously mandated, and joint families exist mainly at weddings. Even questions about village life, spicy food, cricket, yoga, and arranged marriages get her signature funny yet factual and culture provoke curiosity as well. Foreigners often ask about India's many gods, which she quips are enough to cover every festival and exam season. And when asked about riding camels or elephants, she jokes about grocery-store commutes, poking fun at the over-the-top stereotypes. Through these interactions, Gautam showcases how living abroad as an Indian is filled with amusement, surprises, and plenty of opportunities to educate with humour.
