Girvan Arts Festival returns for 2025
Organisers have announced the much-anticipated line up for the fourth Girvan Arts Festival which kicks off on Friday, June 6.
A weekend packed full of authors, artists, musicians, craftsmen, poets and even farmers will take place over three days.
Highlights include Denise Mina, talking about her stellar career as a crime-writer, and Preston Reed, world renowned guitarist, who will be talking about his life in music and playing some of his amazing back catalogue.
Opera is also coming to Girvan, with a selection of famous opera hits, a few songs from the musicals and some of Scots Opera's own work - Seal Woman.
Some of Ayrshire's finest poets will be joined by others from further afield in the spoken word event Words by the Sea and Jim English will be telling audiences all about his passion – making Olympic curling stones from Ailsa Craig Granite.
The Bookshop Band will bring the entertainment on the Saturday evening. Their last album was produced by Pete Townshend of The Who – who also played on it.
There are two events for children in the library, and a 'Festival Fringe' has been introduced for 2025 with CRAG and Girvan Youth Trust holding workshops and events.
There are Zentangle drawing sessions at the New Café Royale and the Tattie Fest is having a showcase of children's art leading up to their big weekend.
Rod McCance, the great nephew of a seminal Scottish artist who spent the latter part of his life in Girvan, will speak about his own colourful career as an artist.
He'll also be exhibiting his work in the McKechnie Institute, along with eight other talented artists.

The signing shows the growing influence of Holly Willoughby's husband Dan Baldwin, whose agency Hungry Bear Talent represents the Gladiators. Harry, also seen in last year's Celebrity MasterChef, was limited by injury when paired with pro Nancy Xu in the festive show. He said: 'I was a bit cautious, so Nancy and the team just worked around me and I just gave it my all.' A Strictly spokeswoman said: 'We don't comment on speculation.'

This year's game is being played at Manchester United's ground Old Trafford. This isn't the first time the venue has been used, as the first ever match in 2006 was played here. Soccer Aid was also held at Old Trafford between 2010-2018 as well as most recently in 2023. However, other venues have also been used in the past such as Wembley, Stamford Bridge, City of Manchester Stadium and London Stadium. When did Soccer Aid begin? Soccer Aid was first launched in 2006 by former Take That star Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes. It initially took place every two years but is now an annual event. Females were first allowed to play in the game in 2019 and it is the only mixed-sex match officially sanctioned by The Football Association. 2020 saw the event held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Romeo Beckham has shared an adorable message with his dad David Beckham to celebrate his long-overdue knighthood. The former England football captain, 50, officially became a Knight of the Realm this week after years of being snubbed. Sir David took pride of place on the King's Birthday Honours list, alongside actor Gary Oldman and The Who frontman Roger Daltrey, plus Damehood recipients Elaine Paige, novelist Pat Barker and pottery designer Emma Bridgewater. Sir David, who previously received an OBE in 2003, described the honour as 'incredibly humbling' and called it 'an emotional moment for me to share with my family.' This comes amid rumours of a 'feud' between David and Victoria, 51, and their other son, Brooklyn, 26. Among those celebrating Sir David's achievement was son Romeo, 22, who took to Instagram to share a sweet tribute to his famous father. Posting on his Instagram Stories, Romeo shared a snap of himself and his dad at what looked like a swish party. In the picture, the future knight looks awkwardly at the camera while holding a glass of wine, clad in a white tuxedo and black bow tie. Romeo, meanwhile, can be seen grinning at his old man. Sir David's honour comes amid spiralling rumours of disharmony in the Beckham family home, with whispers of a feud between the Beckhams and other son Brooklyn. Brooklyn and actress Nicola were wed in 2022 – and have seemingly kept their distance from David and Victoria since.
