BBVA receives approval from Morocco for the acquisition of Banco Sabadell
Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) has received approval from Morocco's central bank, Bank al Maghrib, for the indirect change of control of Banco Sabadell's branch in the country. This approval marks the final international clearance required to complete the transaction.
With all international authorizations secured, BBVA is now awaiting approval from Spanish authorities for the takeover bid. The National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) is continuing its phase 2 analysis, during which commitments may be requested, but no divestment is necessary. Once this stage is completed, the operation will need to be validated by the Ministry of Economy, which may forward the dossier to the Council of Ministers. Finally, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) must approve the offer's prospectus.
According to Onur Genç, CEO of BBVA, the acceptance period could begin at the end of June, pending the remaining approvals.
If the takeover bid is successful, BBVA plans to integrate Banco Sabadell through a merger by absorption, further strengthening its position in the Spanish banking market. This final step will also require approval from Spanish authorities.

Moroccan NGO urges Spain to reinstate driver's license recognition
The Association of Moroccan Immigrant Workers in Spain (ATIM) has recently called for the mutual recognition of driver's licenses between Spain and Morocco to be reactivated, based on an agreement that has been in place since 2004. The organization said the issue is currently being discussed by the Spanish and Moroccan ministries. «We hope that after the summer, a clear solution will be found to restart the license exchange or create a new cooperation framework», ATIM said. They want the mutual recognition to start again immediately, without any new tests or exams. They also ask for an official order from Spain's traffic authority (DGT) and for unfair fines against Moroccan drivers acting in good faith to be canceled. ATIM pointed out that, according to media reports, the DGT still treats Moroccan residents in Spain as if they don't have valid licenses, often fining them 500 euros. Because of this, ATIM criticized what they call a «contradictory policy» that hurts thousands of families, especially farm workers and people who depend on driving for their jobs. They say this is unfair discrimination against Moroccans who have been asking for a solution for years. «While the two countries work on a solution, it's wrong to keep punishing families who are already suffering», the NGO added.
