Crowe brothers smash lap record in TT sidecar win
Ryan and Callum Crowe stormed to a dominant win in the opening sidecar race of the 2025 Isle of Man TT, smashing the lap record. The siblings from Jurby, in the north of the island, led on the road throughout after topping the qualifying boards, recording a second lap of 121.021mph on their Honda machine.Victory marked the local pairing's third win on the 37.7-mile (61km) Mountain Course after securing the double at last year's TT.By the end of the truncated two-lap race, the pair had pulled out a lead of one minute, 17 seconds on nearest rivals Ben Birchall and Patrick Rosney.
Driver Ryan Crowe said he was surprised by the pair's speed on the record-breaking lap because of the blustery conditions."I didn't think it would come, it was that windy out there," the 29-year-old told Radio TT.He said their Honda was "mint all the way round", adding: "It was lovely, I couldn't knock it out there."The race, which had originally been scheduled to take place on Saturday, was postponed because of significant weather disruption to the planned qualifying sessions for the 2025 event.
Class dominance
The Crowes had pulled out a 25-second lead by Ramsey on the first lap, stretching that to 36 seconds by the end of the circuit, with an average lap speed of 119.418mph – the fastest ever in the class from a standing start. The siblings' dominance in the class in 2025 was cemented on lap two when they pulled out a lead of well over a minute. That second circuit was completed in a time of 18:42.350, slashing three seconds off the previous lap record set by Ben and Tom Birchall in 2023.After a race that saw fierce competition for the other podium places, it was 14-times TT winner Ben Birchall and his new passenger Rosney who took second place on their Honda machinery, 17.3 seconds ahead of Lee Crawford and Scott Hardie on their Kawasaki. But there was disappointment for Lewis Blackstock and newcomer passenger Oscar Lawrence, who had been contenders for a podium finish but fell back after stopping to make adjustments on lap two.Pete Founds and Jevan Walmsley were non-starters in the race following a crash in qualifying on Sunday, with both since discharged from hospital.

Judging by his third-place finish on his seasonal reappearance over course and distance, his first start for 174 days, he can rate higher still than his current modest mark of 63. Note that he's also a brother to Symbolize, who peaked with an official rating of 105. It's Royal Ascot next week. Find the best Royal Ascot free bets and betting offers 7.00 Windsor – Class 2 Handicap (5f) CHANGE SINGS has a fair-looking claim in what is a decent sprint handicap. He finished some way clear of the remainder when a close second over 6f at this course on his most recent start. This drop in trip shouldn't bother him – he has plenty of speed – and he looks capable of progressing more. He's a big horse, probably still strengthening up, and he is out of the Group-2 winning sprinter Cassandra Go, who has produced some smart types. ‘No formal decision' on Michail Antonio future as West Ham striker continues recovery from car crash
West Ham are yet to make a formal decision on the future of Michail Antonio as the striker continues his recover from a serious car crash. This is despite the 25-year-old being listed as a 'free transfer' on the club's retained list, which has been today been announced. Antonio's current contract is due to expire on June 30 and the Jamaica international is still sidelined after being involved in the crash in December, which left him with a broken femur. It was confirmed that Antonio will appear in the Premier League's retained list as a 'free transfer', but West Ham 's current priority is to help him on the road to recovery. 'Given Michail Antonio 's unique situation, following his serious road traffic accident in December 2024, there will be no formal decision and announcement on his future until such time that it is considered right and appropriate,' a West Ham club statement read. 'However, as his current contract is also due to expire on 30 June, for the purposes of the Premier League Retained List procedure at the end of the 2024-25 season, Michail will be listed as a free transfer. 'As a long-serving, highly-respected player, and a much-loved member of the West Ham family, the club's absolute priority at this time is to support Michail personally in his journey to resume playing at the highest level.' It had already been announced that Lukasz Fabianski, Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Danny Ings would depart at the end of their contracts this month. Ex-West Ham captain Kurt Zouma, currently on-loan to Al-Orobah of the Saudi Pro League, will also leave the club on June 30.

Uriah Rennie cause of death: Grieving colleagues reveal Premier League's first black referee's new secret battle with illness after he died aged 65
Uriah Rennie's cause of death appears to have been revealed by Sheffield Hallam University, where the former referee was named the new chancellor of the institute in early May. Rennie passed away at the age of 65 on Saturday, June 7. During his career refereed over 300 matches between 1997 and 2008 and was once branded the 'fittest' official in world football. However, his life was turned upside down last year when he was diagnosed with a rare condition that left him paralysed from the waist down. Rennie was told by doctors that he had an inoperable neurological condition and he revealed earlier this year that he was learning to walk again after spending several months in hospital. Yet after revealing the news on their website, Sheffield Hallam University has shared the sad news that Rennie was battling cancer. 'Uri was a loving, father, partner, brother and uncle, who will be very sadly missed,' the institute wrote on their website. 'He had been privately battling a recent cancer diagnosis, and the family have asked for privacy at this very sad time.' His partner Jayne and brother Glenroy added: 'Our family have appreciated all the support from the nursing teams from Northern General and Weston Park Hospitals, plus close family and friends during the past few weeks at such a difficult time. 'Uri will be so very sadly missed.' Aside from his career in football, Rennie was remembered as a key pillar of the community in Sheffield. The University stated: 'After his retirement from refereeing in 2005, he continued to work in his beloved city of Sheffield, working to support local communities and with numerous charities, campaigning on a range of issues including improving equality and inclusion in sport and supporting mental health.' Rennie was an icon of the Premier League in the early noughties, and the tragic news of his passing has since been greeted with a wave of love and affection from those who knew him or shared the field with him. 'We are saddened to learn of the passing of popular and trailblazing referee Uriah Rennie,' read a statement from Sheffield United. 'Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.' Stan Collymore also paid tribute to Rennie, writing on X: 'Incredibly sad to hear of the passing of referee Uriah Rennie. A pioneer, trailblazer and a bloody good ref. Rest in peace, Ref.' The Premier League icon had been named the chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University in May Rennie had recently revealed that he needed to learn how to walk again following the diagnosis of the rare condition that left him paralysed from the waist down 'I spent a month laid on my back and another four months sitting in bed,' he told BBC News. 'They kept me in hospital until February, they found a nodule pushing on my spine and it was a rare neurological condition so it's not something they can operate on.' 'I have had to learn to move all over again, I'm retraining my legs. I can move my feet and I can stand with a frame attached to my wheelchair but I need to work on my glutes.' Rennie was set to start in his role as Sheffield Hallam University's new chancellor after previously being awarded an honorary doctorate, before he was admitted to hospital.
