Hyderabad: City police issues traffic advisory for Tiranga rally
Hyderabad: The police issued a traffic advisory in connection with the 'Tiranga Rally' from Ambedkar statue, Tankbund to M-47 Patton Tank, near Children's Park, on Saturday. The traffic diversions will be made on need basis from 5.30 to 8.30 pm.
According to the police, at Ambedkar statue: the traffic from the Secretariat Junction will not be allowed towards upper Tankbund and will be diverted towards Liberty. The traffic from Liberty towards upper Tankbund will not be allowed and diverted towards Telugu Thalli.
The traffic from Karbala Maidan towards Upper Tankbund will not be allowed and diverted at Sailing Club towards Kavadiguda. Traffic from DBR Mills towards Upper Tankbund will not be allowed and diverted at DBR Mills towards Goshala, Kavadiguda.
The junctions will be congested due to traffic diversions. Commuters are advised to avoid the Ambedkar statue, Sailing club, DBR Mills, Secretariat Junction, Iqbal Minar, VV Statue and Liberty. Citizens are requested to take note of the diversions and traffic congestion points and take alternate routes to reach their destination. The traffic diversions/ closures of roads will be removed / opened after the rally.
The police appealed to the commuters to follow traffic updates on social media platform @Hyderabad Traffic Police Face Book page (facebook.com/HYDTP) and @HYDTP (Twitter handle). In case of any emergency they can call traffic help line 9010203626 for assistance and cooperate with the police.

Bombay high court's Aurangabad bench hears Somnath Suryawanshi custodial death petition' Prakash Ambedkar seeks SIT probe
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar on Monday raised the demand for a court-monitored independent SIT to probe into Somnath Suryawanshi's death in judicial custody on Dec 16, 2024. Ambedkar raised the demand as the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court heard a petition filed by Vijayabai Suryawanshi, mother of Somnath Suryawanshi (35). Somnath was arrested in connection with the protests that had turned violent over the desecration of the Indian Constitution monument in Parbhani. Appearing for the family in the court, VBA chief Ambedkar, besides demanding a court-monitored independent Special Investigation Team (SIT), also spoke about the "lack of a clear legal mechanism" to take further action under Section 196 of BNSS. The matter was heard by the HC division bench of Justice Vibha Kankanwadi and Justice Sanjay Deshmukh. Following the SOP, a CID committee was appointed by the state govt to investigate the custodial death and prepared a report. However, the high court during one of the earlier hearings stayed the CID's proceedings before the report could be finalised. Chief govt pleader Amarjeetsingh Girase, who represented the state during the hearing, said, "During the course of Monday's hearing, we on behalf of the state submitted that the inquiry by the SIT was completed. We (SIT) recorded the statements of more than 190 people and collected all relevant documents as well as electronic evidence crucial for this case. As the HC during the last hearing directed us not to finalise anything, today we sought permission to submit the final inquiry report. " While Ambedkar, who was present along with a battery of lawyers, strongly pitched for directives to the state to address "the legal gap" in BNSS. "There is a void in the law about what should follow after a judicial magistrate conducts an inquiry in custodial death cases. We urged the HC to address this legal gap," he told the media after the hearing. "The second major demand was for the formation of a court-monitored SIT to conduct an independent investigation. "Since the custodial death occurred while Somnath was in judicial custody, it is inappropriate for the same police machinery to carry out the probe. The court heard our request positively. We are expecting an order on this soon," he added. Authorities had initially attributed Somnath's death to cardiac arrest. A postmortem report, however, indicated injuries consistent with physical assault. ‘Thalliki Vandanam' scheme will be implemented from this academic year, says Social Welfare Minister
Social Welfare Minister Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, who is also the in-charge Minister for the Visakhapatnam district, has said that the benefits of the much-awaited 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme will be distributed to the beneficiaries within a week. He took part in the 'Shining Stars' awards' presentation ceremony at the B.R. Ambedkar Assembly hall on the Andhra University campus here on Monday. The State government has announced the awards to the toppers in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Intermediate annual examinations for the year 2024-25. A total of 121 students, including 83 SSC toppers and 38 Intermediate toppers (six students from each mandal) from across the district, were presented with the awards by the guests. Each winner was presented a cash prize of ₹20,000 in the form of a cheque. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Swamy said that the State government will launch the 'Thalliki Vandanam' scheme this academic year and the amount will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries' accounts within a week. So, students and parents need not worry about it. He said that from this academic year, welfare students of Gurukul schools will be given coaching on IIT and NEET. He urged students to participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations to be held in the city on June 21, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest. District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad has said that Visakhapatnam students will always be at the top in education and other aspects. He has urged students to stay away from cellphones and IPL cricket matches during their student life for a better career. Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat, Government Whip P.G.V.R. Naidu (Ganababu) and others participated. The awardees and their parents expressed happiness on the initiative taken by the government to encourage students.

SP MP Ramji Lal Suman threatens nationwide stir if Ambedkar statue not installed in Gwalior HC
Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman on Monday threatened to launch a nationwide stir if a statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, is not installed at the premises of the Gwalior Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He alleged that authorities are preventing him from travelling to Gwalior, where he intended to raise his voice over the issue. Addressing a press conference in Agra, Suman claimed he and his supporters were stopped from proceeding to Gwalior despite their peaceful intentions. "We are being prevented from travelling not just to Gwalior but also to other districts of Uttar Pradesh. This is a direct attack on our democratic rights," he said. Suman expressed deep concern over what he described as "deliberate efforts to create controversy and disharmony in society". He alleged that even though the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court had approved the installation of the Ambedkar statue, the directive was not being followed. "This is not just a violation of a court order, it is an insult to the legacy of Babasaheb Ambedkar,' he said. Warning of widespread protests, Suman said: "If the statue of Babasaheb is not installed at the premises of the Gwalior Bench, a nationwide movement will be launched." He also made a controversial comparison during his press conference, pointing out that a statue of Manu Maharaj -- believed by many to be the author of Manusmriti -- is installed outside the Rajasthan High Court in Jaipur, while Ambedkar's statue is being resisted in Gwalior. "Manu Maharaj was against the dignity of women and Dalits. And yet his statue stands tall, while Babasaheb, who gave us the Constitution, is being disrespected," he said. This isn't the first time Suman has stirred controversy. Earlier, he drew sharp criticism after calling 16th-century Rajput ruler Rana Sanga a "traitor" during a speech in the Rajya Sabha, which sparked outrage from political opponents. Suman said the current developments reflect the Madhya Pradesh government's worrying attitude towards Dalit representation and historical justice. "The message is clear -- certain forces are not comfortable with Ambedkar's legacy," he said.
