Title: Rangers 'have to make sure aggression' is always there - Martin
Content: FT: Rangers 1-1 Dundee
Rangers manager Russell Martin told BBC Scotland: "I'm disappointed we didn't win the game, disappointed that we conceded a really poor goal.
"There was just general lethargy and no speed in the first half.
"There wasn't enough intent to disrupt them until we went down to 10 men. The mentality was much better in terms of aggression and speed with and without the ball, but it shouldn't take that.
"I'm pleased with the response of the team when we went down to 10 men and we could've won the game in the end but the mentality has to come from the very first kick of the match.
"In hindsight I should've made some changes to inject that energy in the team but I explained my decision before the game and maybe I could've changed that now the game is finished.
"We're learning about the group all the time, so that's a lesson learnt today.
"We have to make sure that aggression is there all the time.
"The fans have lacked the success they want for quite some time so I understand the frustration. I didn't get too high on Tuesday so we're not going to get too low today.
"We're going to give the fans something to cheer about and we will get better and better. We didn't lose today and we will improve, it'll just take some time.
"Nico Raskin was great when he game on, he tackled more than the whole team.
"We need at attack everything, it took us too long to attack the game tonight."

The Old Firm will still be first and second in the league come the end of the season. Neither will run away with anything, though, they simply aren't good enough.
Josh
Rangers are perhaps starting to realise that their team is not as good as they were making them out to be. A lot of weaknesses are evident and will need sorting before the gap gets even wider. Celtic could arrive at Ibrox seven points clear which would put an enormous amount of pressure on this Rangers team.
Martin
Shocking performance from Rangers, unable to breakdown their defence, no passion or commitment and poor skill levels. What is the manager doing with these players? If they are unable or unwilling to put in the expected level of performance they should be shown the door.
William
Sadly Rangers still lack killer forwards. The stats tell it all, plenty of passing and possession but can't score.

Ian McCallFormer Dundee & Rangers midfielder on BBC Sportsound
Rangers kept moving forward and moving forward.
In terms of the positives, I'm not sure. Rothwell did well driving with the ball.
The two wide players are going to be good players, you don't want to ask too much of them too early Antman started really well and Gassama was their main threat today.
You've got to take the positives, they were getting beat with 10 minutes to go and they never gave up.

Title: 'I could cry for them' - Pressley on Dundee 'pride'
Content: FT: Rangers 1-1 Dundee
Dundee manager Steven Pressley told BBC Scotland: "I asked all the players today to show courage and belief to get a result here, and they showed that in abundance.
"I said to them in the dressing room I could cry for them today because they left every last ounce out there on the pitch.
"I'm hugely proud of the preface but it's still only one point and you can get relegated on one point.
"We were a big threat on set plays today, we caused them problems, there were a number of really positive aspects about the game.
"Today I saw further improvements and we'll work again tirelessly before the Kilmarnock game.
"I couldn't be prouder of those group of players today. The most important thing for me is to see progression and I certainly saw that."

But I think they need more egos at the club because egos come with top players.

Max Aarons has to take responsibility.
He has to show that he can deliver a cross. He looked nervous and he's not the best defensively.
If he doesn't start showing that he's got a big enough character to be at the club, then he'll soon find himself out the team.
He feels the pressure of the crowd.

The second half had everything.
It was nearly perfect for Dundee, it could have been a vital win but it's a great point.
Rangers looked like they were playing with a man extra in the second half and it took a man being sent off to get them going but they deserved that draw in the end because they kept going at it.

There were boos at the final whistle, unsurprisingly.
There's a European hangover, and then there's whatever Rangers seem to go through.
So impressive on Tuesday, to that performance. A performance that for 90 minutes, saw them losing to a beleaguered Dundee side that have already been written off this season.
Reaction to come.

Content: Well, Dundee would have taken a point at kick-off. But how close were they to all three points?
Ryan Astley's superb header had them in a commanding position, further helped by Nasser Djiga's red card.
But Djeidi Gassama, who was lively all afternoon, won a penalty and James Tavernier subsequently converted.
There were shades of the loss to Queen's Park here, but they come away with a point.
However, it means Rangers have failed to win their first two games in the league for the first time since 1989.

I test hypercars for a living, but the scariest thing I do is take my £500 Audi for an MOT test
I'd be a hopeless sports coach. I don't just suspect that's the case, I fairly well know it, having spent a season 'managing' the Pear & Partridge FC, my local pub's football team, 20 years ago. Other than a notable 5-4 victory after being 4-0 down at half-time (local newspaper headline: 'Lovely Pear For Comeback Kings' – and yes, I wrote the match report), it wasn't a spell that had Arsène Wenger looking nervously over his shoulder. In partial mitigation, it wasn't unknown for the Pear's star striker to arrive for the match on a Sunday morning with a can of lager in his hand – whether still going strong from the night before or starting afresh that morning, I never quite knew. It wasn't the training or the tactics or team selection that bothered me – these were not high-stakes games – but the stress of watching and hoping. I found it unbearable. I get the same feeling when I drop a vehicle in for its MOT test. Last week it was my motorcycle, but a couple of months ago it was my Audi A2. You can check a vehicle's MOT status online, so at some point during the hour or two my local garage had the car, the website asked me to confirm I'm a human because I had refreshed the page so much to check up on the Audi that the system thought I was some kind of spambot. The nervousness, the anticipation, the feeling of dread. I hate it all. It doesn't matter how much prep or homework I've done: one of my vehicles is going in to be judged and I don't know what the outcome will be. It's the motoring equivalent of Schrödinger's cat. I don't get the same feeling from the family Land Rover, because I don't do any of the work on it. So it must be something about the feeling of being personally assessed. What's weird is that it doesn't really matter: whatever is wrong I can just take home and fix. My job requires that I drive things, so there's usually a car around if I need to go somewhere.

Managing Rangers – Eggs put in 6ft 3' Arsenal star's basket and huge £5m decision to be made
The state of play as Rangers look to continue their busy summer of transfer incomings and outgoings following the arrival of new boss Russell Martin Rangers may need to strengthen further ahead of the transfer deadline if they are to take the fight to Celtic this season. The Gers have made a mixed start to their Scottish Premiership campaign, while they are on course to qualify for the Champions League playoff round following Tuesday's superb 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen. The true test of progress under Russell Martin will be how close they can get to their Old Firm foes, who romped to the title by 17 points last season. Martin has made a number of transfer inroads following his arrival, with nine summer signings, but more incomings are on the cards ahead of the September 1 deadline. The Record looks at the current state of play and what a dream scenario could look like... Focus on signing Arsenal keeper Martin has said he is open to signing a keeper to provide competition for Jack Butland, and Karl Hein would be the perfect option. With a loan deal for Brighton's Carl Rushworth off, the Light Blues have reportedly turned their attention to Gunners back-up Hein, according to reports in Germany. The 23-year-old joined the Gunners' youth ranks in 2018 but has made just one first-team appearance. The 6ft 3' stopper spent last season on loan at Real Valladolid in La Liga, making 31 appearances as the team were relegated. The arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea will have shunted the Estonia international even further down the pecking order at the Gunners. Given his age, he may feel it is time to sever his Arsenal links permanently. Sevilla are also in the running to sign Hein, who has previously been linked with Portsmouth and QPR. £5m decision made Cyriel Dessers ' future may be at Rangers after all, despite Martin's admission that he was the only player in his squad to attract a formal bid this summer. That bid is widely thought to have been from AEK Athens. It is believed Dessers had even agreed a £30,000-a-week deal with the Greek giants before the Gers' new American owners dug their heels in by refusing to accept less than £5million for the Nigerian. AEK appear to have moved on, signing Luka Jovic from AC Milan. Martin has openly praised Dessers' attitude, suggesting he could be part of his long-term plans. The 30-year-old started against Viktoria Plzen, scoring from the spot in a superb all-round performance. Billy Dodds, part of Barry Ferguson's coaching staff at the end of last season, believes cashing in on Dessers this late in the window would be a major mistake. He said: 'It would be a gamble now. I think the big man has bounced back and I love players who show that.' Dodds added: 'He's scored again and he's probably put it back in Rangers' court. I think probably the Rangers did want to sell. But now there's a question mark about it.' Go after a Mendy alternative Rangers remain in the hunt for a central defender after appearing to have missed out on Real Betis's Nobel Mendy. The Light Blues had expressed an interest in the 6ft 2' centre-back as Martin looks to beef up his defensive options. However, Mendy looks set to remain in Spain, with Rayo Vallecano now leading the race to sign the talented 20-year-old, according to reports in the country. Mendy was viewed as an alternative to former target Conor Coady, who has joined Wrexham instead. Rangers could look at the array of experienced free agents who remain available, including former Manchester United man Victor Lindelof, 31, ex-West Ham centre-back Kurt Zouma, 30, and Ben Mee, 35, formerly of Brentford and Burnley.

Rangers receive new VAR verdict after Djeidi Gassama penalty controversy against Dundee
The winger won a late spot kick at Ibrox which James Tavernier netted to make it 1-1 Rangers have been told that VAR should have stepped in after Djeidi Gassama won a penalty during a late rescue mission against Dundee. The winger cut inside Drey Wright late in the Scottish Premiership clash and went down under pressure from the full-back in the box - allowing James Tavernier to cancel out Ryan Astley's header from 12 yards. The home side had already been reduced to 10 men after Nasser Djiga brought Fin Robertson as he closed in on Jack Butland's goal - while Cyriel Dessers last goal was chalked off by the team in Clydesdale House. And the Sportscene panel insists referee Don Robertson should have been sent to the pitchside monitor to review the challenge on the 21-year-old. Former Ibrox striker Stephen Thompson said: "I'm not having it. I don't think it is. I think Gassama plays for it; he feels contact and throws himself. "Yes, there is a wee bit of contact, which you would expect but he feels it and throws himself to the ground. I'm surprised VAR agreed it was a penalty kick." And Gordon Smith added: "I think if VAR had intervened there is a good chance it was disallowed." But Ian McCall reckons that the flashpoint started before the contact between Wright and the boot of the Rangers ' attacker. Offering a defence of whistler Robertson and the VAR team, he said: "Our view from here is that he certainly looked like he clipped him, and it looked like there may be a wee incident before it - a shirt pull." Djiga was also offered a defence by former Light Blues' striker Smith, who insisted the Wolves loanee had not intended the last-ditch contract before seeing ref. Smith said: "(It) Could be looked at as harsh in one respect "He wasn't complaining about being sent off which was a bit of a surprise, because I think he did make contact with him but I don't think he was trying to bring him down." Thompson interjected: "No, he wasn't trying to bring him down but he makes contact and he's last man, denying a goalscoring opportunity." But he was not as forgiving of Dessers - after the striker was denied a late winner in injury time by the offside flag. He said "It was bad striking. He has moved too quickly."
