The most popular grocery stores in Philly

Axios15-05-2025
Walmart again reigns supreme among supermarkets in the Philadelphia metro.
Why it matters: Shoppers are on the hunt for the best deals amid sky-high food costs that are poised to keep climbing.
By the numbers: Walmart and its supercenters ate up 16.4% of the region's market share in 2024, per new data from Chain Store Guide.
Albertsons' Acme stores, despite their troubles in recent years, were a close second with 15% of market share.
That was followed by Giant and its Martin's stores (12.8%), Costco (5.9%) and Wegmans (5.7%).
Flashback: Walmart's big-box stores maintained the top supermarket spot for at least a third straight year.

Amazon Slashes 25% Apple's Latest M3 iPad Air in Every Color Just in Time for Back to School

Apple's iPad Air M3 tablet is the latest one in the iPad Air collection. Plus it ranks as the best tablet for students. And luckily, it's often the subject of a discount at various retailers. But this current round of deals slashes it to its lowest price yet -- and we don't expect it to go much lower any time soon. What better way to kick off the back-to-school season? Amazon is now offering the entry-level 128GB 11-inch M3 iPad Air for just $449, down from the usual $599. That's a respectable $150 discount, as long as you choose the space gray model. Other colors are discounted but not as significantly on Amazon. Need a bigger display? The same $150 discount applies to the 13-inch model as well, with all the colors on sale. Both Walmart and Best Buy are currently matching Amazon's prices and they have all colors marked down. The latest iPad Air comes with the fast M3 chip, so it won't struggle to play all the latest games or run the most capable apps. It features a gorgeous Liquid Retina display in 11- and 13-inch size options, just like the eye-wateringly priced M4 iPad Pro. Other specs worth noting include fast Wi-Fi 6E support for streaming content and downloading apps, while storage options go all the way to 1TB. Roku Home Security Camera 2-Pack Hits Clearance-Level Price, Feels Like a BOGO Deal at Walmart

Households run on little check-ins. Is the dog napping on the couch again? Did the package make it past the porch? Who left the lamp on in the den? The Roku Indoor Camera SE – Home Security – 2-Pack gives you two small windows into those everyday moments without turning your place into a gadget showroom. Each camera is about the size of a deck of cards, plugs into a nearby outlet, and blends into a shelf or windowsill so it watches without shouting for attention. Open the app and there it is, a clear view that answers small questions before they become big worries. Head over to Walmart to get the Roku Indoor Camera SE – Home Security – 2-Pack for just $35, down from its usual price of $45. That's a discount of $10 and 22% off. See at Walmart Setting up the cameras is as easy as placing a picture frame. Set a camera on a book stack by the door, angle another toward the playroom, plug them in, and follow the short guide on your phone. Minutes later, you can peek in from the grocery line or the office break room. The picture is crisp in daylight, steady at dusk, and color night vision helps you make sense of late evening scenes when the house is quiet. Motion alerts arrive with a quick buzz, and you can raise or lower sensitivity so the chime sounds for footsteps, not the curtain. Once they are up, the cameras become part of the rhythm of the house. A quick glance to check if a package landed. A quiet hello through two-way audio when kids get home from school. A peek at the hallway to see if the cat found a new sunbeam. Clips save to your phone when you want to share a moment, and optional cloud recording extends your look back when you are away for the weekend. Small touches keep things friendly. The bases tilt and swivel, so finding the right angle is more about a nudge than a toolkit. The cords are long enough to reach a nearby outlet without draping across the room. Privacy toggles let you pause streaming when guests come over, and a simple schedule can keep notifications silent during dinner. With two cameras in the box, you can cover the door and the main room, or the nursery and the hallway, and shuffle them later as routines change. An honest note. These are indoor cams meant for everyday awareness, not a complete security system with sirens and floodlights. Used that way, they shine. The Roku Indoor Camera SE – Home Security – 2-Pack is still available for $35 at Walmart, down from the regular $45 price. See at Walmart

‘Challenge to Peers,' Says Top Analyst on Amazon's Big Grocery Bet

Morgan Stanley's top analyst, Brian Nowak, believes that Amazon's (AMZN) grocery expansion plans could pose a challenge to its peers as it seeks to capture a larger share of the multi-trillion-dollar online grocery market. The e-commerce giant announced that it is making same-day fresh food delivery available in more than 1,000 U.S. cities and towns, with plans to expand this to at least 2,300 locations by the end of the year. Shares of competitors Instacart (CART), Walmart (WMT), Kroger (KR), and Albertsons (ACI) fell in response to the news yesterday. Nowak maintained his 'Buy' rating on AMZN stock, with a Street-high price target of $300, implying 33.6% upside potential from current levels. Nowak is a five-star analyst on TipRanks, ranking #615 out of the 9,948 analysts tracked. He boasts a 62% success rate and an average return per rating of 7.70%. Here's Why the Analyst Is Bullish About Amazon Nowak highlighted that Amazon's move to expand its grocery selection on will effectively lower its delivery costs and minimum basket size. The analyst added that the company is aiming to capture a larger share of the $1.5 trillion offline grocery market. According to Nowak, Amazon had been losing a 'modest' share of the online grocery market to peers like Walmart, DoorDash (DASH), and Uber (UBER) due to factors such as price, selection, convenience, delivery, and pick-up options. However, Amazon's push to expand its grocery market online and lowering prices shows a stronger commitment to investing for the long-term and faster growth. Furthermore, Nowak believes that the extent to which Amazon increases competition could threaten the growth or profitability potential of its peers. Among its rivals, Nowak noted that Walmart has the 'most demonstrable track record of share gains and that it has been preparing for this risk over the last decade.' In recent years, Amazon has been actively changing its grocery strategy by making changes to its Fresh grocery store chain and opening fresh food delivery to non-Prime members. Is AMZN Stock a Good Buy? Wall Street remains highly optimistic about Amazon's long-term stock outlook. On TipRanks, AMZN stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 44 Buys and one Hold rating. The average Amazon price target of $264.68 implies 17.9% upside potential from current levels. Year-to-date, AMZN stock has gained 2.4%.
