Dad shares moment he told son he was a millionaire after cancer battle
The moment a single father who has battled bowel cancer filmed told his son he had won £1 million on the lottery has went viral.
Paul Harvey, of Attleborough, Norfolk, plans to treat his two teenage children to their first foreign holiday together - to Greece.
The 51-year-old, full-time dad, who has had an unsettling two years following treatment for bowel cancer, also plans to buy a Fiat 500 for his daughter who is learning to drive.
"Life hasn't always been easy, but the kids mean the world to me, and they always come first," he said.
"We have never been away abroad together, and I would love to take them both to Greece.
"But first we need to get our passports."
Mr Harvey filmed the moment he broke the news of his win to his son, as the teenager got home from school.
With his voice cracking with emotion, Mr Harvey asked his son: "How many millionaires do you know?"
His son, whose details he is keeping private, said "zero, I've got not money", and Mr Harvey swore and told him: "You do now."
His son said: "Shut up, you're joking, you're lying."
Mr Harvey replied: "On my life, a million pounds, mate."
The pair then excitedly hugged, laughed and jumped around the kitchen.

"I wanted to tell the kids in person so when my son got home I set up my phone to record it," said Mr Harvey.
"I got a massive lump in my throat as I asked him, 'how many millionaires do you know?"'
Mr Harvey also plans to help his son and daughter as they near the end of their full-time education.
"I am so proud of what the kids have achieved already in life," he said.
"They both have big ideas about what they want to do when they leave school, and I cannot wait to help them in their chosen careers.
"It's the important stuff like helping them to learn to drive and getting them a car and insurance so they can get to college and then work.
"My daughter has a driving test later this year and I would love to get her a second-hand Fiat 500 for her to practise in."
Mr Harvey entered the EuroMillions draw on July 4 but did not realise he had won the life-changing sum until a week later.
He got an email from the National Lottery urging him to check his account and get in touch urgently, which he initially thought was a scam.
He won by matching the unique raffle code in the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw.
"It felt like forever waiting for the kids to get home from school so I could break the news," he said.
"Their reactions were hilarious and heart-warming.
"We all feel ridiculously excited and relieved in equal measure.
"It just doesn't seem real."
Mr Harvey, who previously lived in Cyprus, said: "We can afford our very own home, and I can finally have my own bedroom rather than sleeping downstairs.
"And to go on a family holiday altogether will be fantastic.
"I can speak Greek fluently and I can't wait to show off to the kids.
"I lived in Cyprus for 12 years when I was younger.
"I would love to go back one day but for now it's a holiday in Greece for me and the kids.
"This win gives us so many more options, but I want to take my time and do it right."

'I wondered what the hell was going on at first because I couldn't hear anything above the music. 'When I saw the ring, he didn't need to say anything, 'I just said 'yes' and we're both over the moon.' The Dundee couple, who have five children between them including their two-year-old daughter together, Mirryn, said they're still 'buzzing' after a night to remember. Shell said: 'We're both massive Oasis fans and we managed to book the tickets to see them in Edinburgh on my 40th birthday last year. 'We'd talked about getting engaged before, but usually when we were drunk. 'Dwayne really took me by surprise but his timing couldn't have been better. It was just perfect.' Dwayne, 38, added: 'I'd asked Shell's two older children a couple of weeks before if they'd be okay with me asking her to marry me. 'I knew the Oasis gig would be the perfect place to do it and I wanted to wait until our favourite song came on. 'I was on the edge of my seat with nerves until then. I got down on one knee and started singing the chorus 'now that your're mine'. 'It's just a song that means a lot to us. 'I didn't actually say the words 'will you marry me', but it was pretty obvious. 'Folk around us started getting their cameras out and taking photos of us. 'We've been through so much together and I wanted a proposal to be memorable. She means absolutely everything to me.'

Heartwarming moment dad tells son he won lottery after cancer battle
A father told his son he had won over $1.3million on the lottery after his two-year cancer battle - and he what he plans to do with the prize is simply heartwarming. Paul Harvey, 51, from Attleborough, England, has had a difficult few years, undergoing treatment for bowel cancer. But last month, his luck changed when he won big on the National Lottery's EuroMillions Millionaire Maker draw. The single father-of-two has big dreams for the life-changing sum, not least taking the family away on their first ever foreign holiday together, to Greece. He also plans to move house, as his current one doesn't have enough bedrooms for him and his kids, with Paul sleeping in the living room. Paul also wants to buy a Fiat 500 car for his daughter to practice driving in, as she has her test booked later this year. But before starting their new life, he had to break the news to his children - who were overjoyed and emotional about what the win would mean for the family. Paul captured the adorable moment on camera, unable to contain his excitement as his son returned home from school. Setting his phone up to record discreetly from the corner of the kitchen, he asked the boy: 'How many millionaires do you know?' The teen, whose details the father is keeping private, responded: 'Zero, I've got not money.' Paul then swore and told him: 'You do now,' and his son exclaimed: 'Shut up, you're joking, you're lying.' Paul said he got 'a massive lump in my throat' as he began to tell his son of his win - but he was determined: 'I wanted to tell the kids in person.' He continued: 'It felt like forever waiting for the kids to get home from school so I could break the news. Their reactions were hilarious and heart-warming. We all feel ridiculously excited and relieved in equal measure. It just doesn't seem real. 'Life hasn't always been easy, but the kids mean the world to me, and they always come first.' Excited for their first ever foreign trip together, the father said: 'But first we need to get our passports.' He explained why he has chosen Greece: 'I can speak Greek fluently and I can't wait to show off to the kids. I lived in Cyprus for 12 years when I was younger. 'I would love to go back one day but for now it's a holiday in Greece for me and the kids.' Paul added: I am so proud of what the kids have achieved already in life. They both have big ideas about what they want to do when they leave school, and I cannot wait to help them in their chosen careers. 'It's the important stuff like helping them to learn to drive and getting them a car and insurance so they can get to college and then work.' Reflecting on how else the sum will change his life, he said: 'We can afford our very own home and I can finally have my own bedroom rather than sleeping downstairs.' Paul got an email from the National Lottery urging him to check his account and get in touch urgently, which he initially thought was a scam. But he was soon astonished to discover he had won, after making sure using a unique confirmation code. He concluded, ecstatic: 'This win gives us so many more options but I want to take my time and do it right.'

Tom Jones leaves festival audience in tears following health battle
The Welsh singer has had audiences welling up after he was forced to cancel a gig last month due to health issues. Sir Tom Jones has had audiences blubbering into their pints as he returned to the stage after a health scare which ended in the cancellation of a show in Germany at the end of last month. Audiences at Camp Bestival in Dorset, where the singer played last Sunday, August 3, described the headliner's voice as 'phenomenal' and 'incredible'. The rave performance came just a few weeks after Jones was taken ill and had to cancel a show in Germany. On July 22 the Welsh singer made the announcement on social media that he would not be able to perform in the German city of Bremen due to health issues, reports Wales Online. In a statement, he said: "Hello to all the fans in Bremen. Unfortunately, I must postpone my show this evening, as I've contracted an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment and rest. "I know this is really disappointing and will cause inconvenience to you all, and I'm very sorry about that. But the show will now go ahead on Monday 28th July, so I look forward to seeing you then. All tickets will remain valid for the re-scheduled date. "Until then, thank you for your understanding. Love, Tom." But he was back on form for the rescheduled show, as well as a gig in Dundee at the Discovery Festival, and Cardiff is also due to welcome him later in August at Cardiff Castle. Organisers of Camp Bestival shared that "there wasn't a dry eye in the house" as Sir Tom performed on the last night of the event last weekend. They said: "The incredible @realsirtomjones closed the Castle Stage last night, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. What a legend. Thank you Sir Tom for a very memorable end to the weekend." And the Welsh icon's recent cancellation in Germany was not the first time the Delilah singer has cancelled a gig. Back in 2018, Sir Tom was forced to cancel of a string of shows after ending up with a bacterial infection, aged 78 at the time. A statement at the time read: "Sir Tom has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital. The condition is being well managed and under doctors' orders, appropriate recovery time and rest is advised." Opening up on his health last year, Tom Jones said he was feeling fit and healthy as ever, despite being in his eighties. Expressing how grateful he is for his incredible voice to remain intact, he said: "Well, thank God my voice is still working. I am 83 years old. I mean I can't believe it, but it is true. "When I am singing I am like, 'How the hell is this coming out of me?' Honestly. If the voice was not there I am sure I would be going 'Urgh, I don't want to do so many shows' but I love it as the voice is still working!" Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
