Anglesey farm praised for climate-friendly food production
Deputy First Minister Huw Irranca-Davies visited Castellior Farm to see how sustainable practices are shaping the future of agriculture in Wales.
The visit highlighted the success of farmer Dylan Jones, who has combined profitable beef farming with strong environmental stewardship.
Mr Irranca-Davies said: "The sustainable production of food remains at the core of the Sustainable Farming Scheme.
"But significant changes to our climate and weather will continue to develop over the next few decades, and it is essential that we take steps now to build resilience and adapt to the potential impacts of climate change.
"Dylan is an exemplar in showing how farms can modify pasture management to address the impacts of climate change while staying profitable – good for business and good for our environment."
Castellior Farm, covering 332 hectares and run by Mr Jones and his father Wyn, has received several industry awards.
Mr Jones has also secured funding through Farming Connect's Try-Out Fund for a project titled Evaluation of Phosphate sources with homegrown cereals in relation to farm nutrient balance and environmental footprint.
He said: "I was pleased to welcome the Deputy First Minister to the farm to showcase the progress and developments we've made over the past ten years.
"Our collaboration with Farming Connect at various stages throughout this period has provided valuable guidance and helped give us the confidence to move forward.
"During the visit, we had an open and constructive discussion about the ongoing challenges facing the agricultural sector.
"I was grateful for the Deputy First Minister's respectful approach and willingness to listen to my concerns, particularly around food security and the long-term future of agriculture in Wales."

Eirwen Williams, director of service delivery for Farming Connect at Mentera, said: "This visit was a great opportunity for the Deputy First Minister to see the impact this important programme has on the agricultural industry.
"As the agricultural industry transitions to the new Sustainable Farming Scheme the support offered by Farming Connect will be vital.
"It's been a pleasure working with Dylan on some of the innovative projects he's been doing in Castellior."
Results from Mr Jones' work will be shared at a Farming Connect Our Farms Farm Walk in September.
The event will give other Welsh farmers the opportunity to learn from Castellior's approach to sustainable farming.

The plan received backing from Saundersfoot Community Council. A supporting statement said: "Catch Cymru is an established independent seafood business based in Carmarthen with a strong reputation for high-quality takeaway seafood. "As a result of the success and demand for our current operation we are now looking to expand by opening a second restaurant in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire. "Our aim for this new shop is not only to replicate our successful takeaway model but also to enhance the customer experience by providing a unique seaside dining experience that will appeal to both locals and tourists alike. "In addition to our existing offerings of fried fish and chips the Saundersfoot restaurant will offer a broader menu, including seasonal grilled and barbecued fish, fresh salads, and a variety of side dishes to cater to a wider demographic to include halloumi fries, corn on the cob etc. Article continues below "This expansion will also allow us to continue our popular takeaway service while providing a casual dine-in atmosphere with a drinks menu that features locally-sourced beers and IPAs." The application says that a standout selection on the dog-friendly eatery's menu will be 'catch of the day' specials "based on the freshest seafood available from the local harbour" designed to offer patrons "a unique experience and encourage repeat visits knowing that we support local fishermen". The venue aims to introduce live music sets from local talent on select weekends, especially in high season and bank holidays, to "help create a dynamic and engaging atmosphere that encourages customers to linger, enjoy their food and drinks, but most importantly return for more". An officer's report endorsing the project explained that the proposed alteration of an existing chandlery from A1 (shop) to A3 (food and drink) "will ensure that the vacant unit within the Marine Centre of Excellence is brought back into use and positively contribute to the character of Saundersfoot Harbour". Previously granted planning permission in 2016, the Marine Centre of Excellence has been subject to conditions limiting retail space and its function. The document includes a viability statement from Saundersfoot Harbour Authority which "detailed how the unit was no longer viable for A1/A2 use and that an A3 use would add life and energy to this prime waterfront setting". The statement concluded: "The proposed development will have no adverse impact on the special qualities of the national park and will positively contribute to the character of Saundersfoot Harbour. "A seafood business would fit within the character of the seafront at the Marine Centre of Excellence and will bring a vacant unviable retail unit back into use providing a benefit to the community and local economy." Supreme Court lets DOGE access Social Security data for now
The court's three liberal justices - Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson - disagreed with that decision. "The Government wants to give DOGE unfettered access to this personal, non-anonymized information right now --before the courts have time to assess whether DOGE's access is lawful," Jackson wrote in a dissent joined by Sotomayor. In March, U.S. District Judge Ellen Lipton Hollander of Maryland said DOGE was intruding on "the personal affairs of millions of Americans" in a fishing expedition that's based on little more than suspicion." Hollander limited DOGE's access to the information while the courts assess the legality of the Trump administration's actions. The administration argued the judge overstepped, viewing DOGE staffers as the equivalent of intruders breaking into hotel rooms rather than as employees trying to modernize the agency's technology and root out waste - as DOGE officials said they intended to do. "District courts should not be able to wield the Privacy Act to substitute their own view of the government's 'needs' for that of the President and agency heads," Solicitor General John Sauer told the Supreme Court in an emergency appeal. DOGE has sought access to multiple agencies as part of its mission to hunt for wasteful spending and dramatically overhaul the federal government. Musk has falsely claimed that millions of Americans who are deceased are still receiving Social Security checks. Two labor unions and an advocacy group sued the SSA after DOGE began digging into personal data. They told the Supreme Court justices they shouldn't intervene because the administration hadn't shown an emergency need to access data beyond what the district judge allowed. U.S. Circuit Judge Robert King of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Richmond, Virginia, said the government hadn't shown a need for unfettered access to the highly sensitive personal information that the American people had every reason to believe would be "fiercely protected." DOGE's mission can be largely accomplished through anonymized and redacted data, which is the usual way the agency has handled technology upgrades and fraud detection, he wrote.
