Ryan Yarbrough played very well against his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the New York Yankees' important 7-3 win over them on Sunday in Los Angeles. The emotional bond the left-handed pitcher had with his previous team helped him pitch one of his best games of the season.
Yarbrough's performance of six innings, where he allowed just one run and struck out five batters, helped the New York Yankees avoid a series sweep and showed the great impact personal drive can have on an athlete

ceremony added emotional intensity
Ryan Yarbrough was presented with his Los Angeles Dodgers World Series championship ring just two days before facing them as a pitcher, which gave Sunday's game a different emotional atmosphere. Brandon Gomes, general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, gave Ryan Yarbrough his championship ring during batting practice on Friday and thanked him for his efforts in the first half of the 2024 season.
Being awarded the ring during the ceremony was a happy moment for Ryan Yarbrough, though he was not present for the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series victory over the New York Yankees in October 2024.
Realising this just before playing against his former teammates inspired Ryan Yarbrough to increase his efforts. Mattingly's deep understanding of the Los Angeles Dodgers' offence and the excitement of getting a championship ring from the team that dropped him made him extremely motivated.

Having played against the opposition often, Ryan Yarbrough was able to use his knowledge from those 44 relief outings to win the game for his team.
New York Yankees starter silenced Los Angeles Dodgers' most dangerous hitters
It was most obvious when Ryan Yarbrough held back the Los Angeles Dodgers' main four batters: Shohei Ohtani, Teoscar Hernandez, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith. Until they faced Yarbrough, these elite hitters had not failed to get a hit all season. During the first frame, seven hitters swung and missed at his sweeper and superstar Shohei Ohtani was completely confused by his different pitches in a five-pitch strikeout.
New York Yankees fans are happy that their $2 million investment in Yarbrough has been so valuable, since he is now 3-0 and has an ERA of 2.83 through his first season with the team. Because he is 6-foot-5, he can pitch in ways that other batters have difficulty adjusting to, and his time as both a starter and reliever gives the team a lot of options. Ryan Yarbrough's play helped balance out an off-performance by Aaron Judge, who didn't get a hit, and Dionisio Jasson Dominguez's single that scored a run before he left due to a thumb injury.

Ryan Yarbrough's emotional victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers showcased how personal motivation can transform good players into dominant forces. His World Series ring served as both a reminder of past success and fuel for future achievements with the New York Yankees, proving that sometimes the best revenge is simply playing exceptional baseball when it matters most.

Yankees fall short of MLB homers record in 13-3 rout of Rays

Members of the New York Yankees celebrate after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field. (Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Dyer-Imagn Images) Synopsis The New York Yankees exploded offensively, tying a franchise record with nine home runs in a dominant 13-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton led the charge with multiple homers, while Carlos Rodón pitched effectively. The Yankees' power surge overwhelmed the Rays, securing their fourth win on their road trip. The New York Yankees unleashed a historic power display on Tuesday night, bashing a franchise-record-tying nine home runs in a 13-3 rout of the Tampa Bay Rays. The barrage began immediately, as Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton hammered back-to-back homers off Rays starter Shane Baz in the first inning to seize a quick 3-0 lead. ADVERTISEMENT The Yankees matched the team record they set earlier this season in a 20-9 win against Milwaukee on March 29, falling just one short of the MLB record of 10 homers by the Blue Jays against the Baltimore Orioles in 1987. The win pushed New York to 4-0 on its five-game road trip. The offensive onslaught didn't let up. Bellinger, who went 4-for-5 with two homers, three runs and three RBIs, and Stanton, who added two blasts and four RBIs, carried the load alongside Judge, who clubbed his 40th homer of the season and scored three times. New York also got long balls from Jose Caballero (two), Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Ben Rice, completing the nine-homer explosion. On the mound, Carlos Rodón (13-7) delivered a solid outing, working six innings of two-run ball while striking out five. Baz (8-10), by contrast, lasted just three innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits — five of them homers. ADVERTISEMENT Caballero's return to Tropicana Field added a twist to the night. After a video tribute honored him before his first at-bat, the former Ray promptly drilled a two-run homer in the second inning, extending New York's lead to 5-0. He later added a ninth-inning blast to punctuate the Bay managed some offense, with Nick Fortes and Chandler Simpson driving in early runs, while Jake Mangum contributed an RBI single in the eighth. But the Rays were overwhelmed by the Yankees' relentless power, as the Bronx Bombers lived up to their nickname in emphatic fashion. Yankees: Aaron Judge might not regain arm strength this season

Huddles of observers were on hand before Aaron Judge was scheduled to throw long toss on Tuesday prior to the New York Yankees' game with the Rays in Tampa. HT Image Manager Aaron Boone said the latest test of Judge's ailing right elbow is an opportunity for trainers to gauge his throwing strength, but cautioned he might not get that power all the way back immediately. Boone did have Giancarlo Stanton in his lineup for the first time in three games, but didn't know when Judge would get the green light to play in the field. He's been exclusively a designated hitter instead of his usual position in right field since coming back from the injured list on Aug. 5. "I don't know yet," Boone said Tuesday in a WFAN interview. "What I've said is I'm waiting on the trainers to say, 'Thumbs up.' He's expected to long-toss again today, so I don't expect it here in Tampa. Could it be Boston? Maybe. I just don't know yet." Stanton, 35, started the season on the injured list with soreness in both elbows and made his season debut in June. Boone said the Yankees are confident Judge, 33, will be able to "protect himself" even if he isn't throwing full steam at any point the rest of the season. Judge, batting .333 with 39 home runs and 91 RBIs, had multiple extra-base hits for the first time this month on Saturday in St. Louis. He has a total of two home runs in the past 12 games.

BTS' V To Throw First Pitch At Los Angeles Dodgers Game On This Date

Last Updated: The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that BTS's Kim Taehyung will be the guest of honour at their August 25 game against the Cincinnati Reds. South Korean boy band BTS has a soft spot for sports. The septet often takes fans, popularly known as the BTS Army, on a musical ride with their top-tier songs. But not many are aware of the team's love for sports. For example, SUGA has already taken the role of a global ambassador for the NBA. On the other hand, the other members are often spotted at courtsides simply to soak in the fun of a match. Now, things have taken a whole new turn and for the better. The baseball team Los Angeles Dodgers, has announced that BTS's Kim Taehyung, better known as V, will be the guest of honour at their August 25 game against the Cincinnati Reds at their home ground, Dodger Stadium. The Los Angeles-based team shared the announcement via X on Sunday, August 17. 'ARMY, you ready? V will be at Dodger Stadium on 8/25 to throw out the ceremonial first pitch!" they captioned the post. — Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 17, 2025 BTS Army Reacts To V's 'Ceremonial First Pitch' The BTS Army was overjoyed upon coming across the news. 'He looks extremely excited," pointed out one user in jest. 'Wait, this was our August surprise?" asked another, clearly happy with the pleasant surprise. 'Excited does not even begin to cover it. Taehyung is going to rock the stadium," noted a fan. The common sentiment was 'Can't wait." In other news, V, alongside SUGA, Jungkook, Jimin, J-Hope, Jin and RM, have completed their mandatory 18-month military training. The septet reunited for a concert, Hope On The Stage, in Seoul back in February, making it a special occasion both for themselves and the BTS Army. V, in a recent interview with W Korea on YouTube, confessed that he turned emotional after watching J-Hope and Jungkook on the stage together. He said, 'I cried during Hobi's concert. During the duet with Jungkook, I got choked up. It was a secret because I was embarrassed. I was too embarrassed to say anything. Let's keep this just between us." Workwise, V unveiled his latest photobook, Reve, on February 3 this year. First Published: August 18, 2025, 16:26 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
