Chief constable to step down after seven years
The chief constable for Cambridgeshire Police will step down from the position in September.
Nick Dean has been in the role for seven years after he became head of the force in 2018.
Mr Dean previously announced he would retire in 2023, but abandoned the plans when he "realised now is not the right time".
The force confirmed the end of his contract and applications for the role remain open until the 11 June.
Mr Dean joined Norfolk Constabulary in September 1992, serving in both uniform and criminal investigation roles.
He has more than three decades of police service under his belt and became head of the Cambridgeshire force in September 2018.
During 2023 he announced his plans to retire, but continued in the role following an extension to his contract.
As chief constable he was accountable for the Cambridgeshire Constabulary and was responsible for command, leadership, response to crime and critical incidents.
In June 2024, he was recognised in the King's Birthday Honours and was awarded a King's Policing Medal for distinguished service.
A spokesperson from the Cambridgeshire force said: "I can confirm that Chief Constable Nick Dean's contract has come to an end and he will be leaving in September."
The Cambridgeshire force is expected to grow between 2025 to 2026.
This follows a £2m funding boost from the government to help recruitment.
On visit to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, this year, Sir Keir Starmer said visible policing had fallen dramatically in recent years, with 90% of crime left unsolved.
He announced £200m would be spent on hiring police in areas including Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire and Somerset.
Based on the funding allocation the Cambridgeshire force could increase by 30 police officers, seven police community support officers and 13 special constables.

Udall neighbors rattled after park restrooms set on fire — twice
UDALL, Kan. (KSNW) — You could smell it before you saw it — the charred remains of the city park restrooms, torched and melted from the inside out. Udall Police Chief Erik King is calling it arson and says it's unlike anything he's dealt with in town before. The damage is estimated at around $10,000. Loose tire injures two highway cyclists near Atwood 'This is where the trash can was right here in this corner,' King told KSN. 'Melted the alarms, melted the drains, melted the light switches.' Police say it happened Thursday around 4:30 in the afternoon. Then, just hours later, it happened again. 'The same person returned and, at about 8:40 at night, lit the boy's bathroom on fire, and that caused significant damage,' King said. 'It was on fire for 20 minutes before the alarm company notified us.' He says the timing couldn't be worse, with the Fourth of July just around the corner. Neighbors say the smoke drew their attention before they knew what was happening. 'I was doing yardwork and I had the boys, and a lady from out of town came up to the fence and asked if I had seen a person walking around,' said Skylar Kistler, who lives next to the park. That's when she noticed the smoke coming from the bathroom. 'It kind of made us, I guess, feel protective, like a little more protective, like kind of upset that anybody would do that,' she said. Her husband Tylor says the damage is personal. 'I've lived here my whole life, so it's kind of nice to have a park like this with a splashpad, and you know everything here for the boys right in our backyard, and it's just kind of bad. This is a good building, and it's terrible,' he said. Chief King says the person believed to be responsible has been arrested and is currently being held in juvenile detention. Armed police sent to town after man chased from car
Armed police were deployed to Spalding on Friday following reports that a crowd of people had threatened a man and chased him out of a car that was then damaged. Lincolnshire Police said they received a report at 22:42 BST that the victim had been chased into a property in Station Street while being threatened with weapons. Officers have not established whether a firearm was involved, but confirmed that the parked Volvo was struck with golf clubs and bats by up to 20 people. There were no reports of any injuries but there will be increased police presence in the town over the weekend. Police said the exact number of people and vehicles involved were still unknown, with reports ranging from between one vehicle with six people, to three vehicles and up to 20 people. The man who had been targeted was found to be safe and well. Officers urged anyone with information about a firearm or other offensive weapons or their owners to contact them. They also asked people to come forward with any other information they might have, as well as any mobile phone, CCTV, or ring doorbell footage.
