Brython Thunder came out on top of a 10-try thriller against Glasgow Warriors to finish their Celtic Challenge campaign on a high.Glasgow travelled to Parc y Scarlets looking to avenge last weekend's 33-17 defeat to the Llanelli side. But it was the hosts who flew out of the blocks with early scores from Eleanor Hing and Hannah Bluck.Nicole Flynn hit back for Glasgow before Thunder wrapped up the bonus-point with tries from Gabby Healan and Hannah Lane.Poppy Fletcher crossed on the stroke of half-time to reduce the deficit.Catrin Jones and Orla Proctor exchanged tries after the break before Lane ran in her second to round off the afternoon's scoring.Back-to-back victories sees Thunder rise up the table to finish fourth overall, while Glasgow finish bottom.Wolfhounds were crowned champions on Saturday with a 102-0 victory over Edinburgh.
The game was played in perfect conditions in the Llanelli sunshine and Hing, who once again impressed on the wing for Thunder this season, needed only four minutes to find her way over the whitewash.Thunder's leading try-scorer Bluck cut back inside to score her fifth of the campaign shortly after, with Hanna Marshall adding the extras.Glasgow then began to get a foothold with Flynn wriggling out of the tackle to cross, with her midfield partner Briar McNamara on target from the tee.Ellie Tromans then came agonisingly close to a score showing good footballing skills in the chip and chase, with the try eventually coming for Thunder full-back Lane.Glasgow responded with a try for Norval in the corner before a superb solo effort saw Healan run in a try from her own half, with a show and go sending the defender the wrong way. With the clock in the red, Glasgow kept hammering away at the Thunder try-line and it was a great pick up from loose-head prop Fletcher before crashing over.
With just seven points separating the sides at the break, the first score in the second half was going to be pivotal and it was Thunder who took their chance.Jones, who was back in the side after recovering from injury, showed good hands to juggle the ball before finding a gap in the corner.Proctor then scored Glasgow's best try with the wing fending off some weak tackling in a dash to the line, while Lane also showed good pace to run in Thunder's final score.Brython Thunder head coach Ashley Beck told BBC Sport Wales: "From where we have come from the start of this competition and playing the Irish teams in the middle, to get back to back wins with such a young group, just shows you how much these girls have come on."We had a couple of tough results against the Irish teams, for the girls to still to be turning up for training, they're not paid professionals, it's not their job. So for them to turn up it's about what they want and how they want to get better."Captain Jess Rogers said:"It's been like a rollercoaster for us this whole Celtic Challenge and we wanted to go out there and put a show on and I feel like we did that."

'Worst appointment possible' or 'potential to be very good'?

Here are some more of your comments on Rangers appointing Russell Martin as their new head I hope Russell is capable of changing tactics during a game and not just a one-trick pony. He'll need to be a strong personality on the touchline and ensure everyone is following instructions to the letter. Good luck to him and his At just 39, he's still a young manager with plenty of room to grow and develop. I believe he has the potential to be a very good appointment.J: With this appointment the new owners have proven they know nothing about Scottish football. Thelwell and Purdy? Laurel and Hardy more like. This manager has the credentials of a Hibs or Motherwell manager and is so far from the level of a club like Rangers, even if he is up to it, the sheer disbelief, disappointment and anger of the fans at the cheapest option being taken once again means he's on the back foot before he's even stepped through the A tad underwhelming and I'm slightly concerned as to who he can attract. But I'm happy to support him and I'd love to be proven wrong. Good luck Ancelotti would have been the better choice. Martin's style of play not suited to Scottish football. Ancelotti would have attracted players who otherwise would not have considered Scottish Worst appointment possible. Unproven with little real track record, last time out he was relegation material at Southampton. I fear for the club I love that we will stay also rans. Another Beale I 49rs' first mistake is Martin, he had only one way of playing and can't change or adapt to other styles. I predict he will be sacked within six months.

Martin on proving doubters wrong, 'winning early' & transfer backing

Russell Martin has been speaking to the media for the first time after being confirmed as new Rangers head are the key lines:On landing the job: "Its an incredible feeling. Grateful to everyone for their faith in me. It's taken some time, but that's what you expect when you want to be manager of this football why he wanted the job: "I had a few opportunities since I left Southampton, bit of a break with no real interest to get straight back in. I wanted to take time to reflect. That time was really important. This was the one I really wanted. One because of expectation, the size of it and what it mean to so many people. Also the opportunity to experience something completely different to anything else in football, that's what I felt when I played here for a short period. One thing that hurt me a lot as a player was it didn't go well here. I'm desperate to show a different version of myself. The whole thing is really exciting." On what fans can expect from his team: "We've managed three clubs [MK Dons, Swansea City and Southampton] and they have all looked really different. It's all the same concept, try and be aggressive with and without the ball. We're here to win and we'll do that in the best possible way we can. Hard working first and foremost. Making the club sustainable with academy players coming through and creating his short and long-term aims: "Win trophies. Build a culture at the training ground and here that we are proud of and people can feel in the building. An environment of hard work, honesty and openness. We're going to do it in our way. We're all on the same journey, ultimately that means to win trophies."On his message to the fans: "Supporters are the most important part at any club. My job is to give them a team they identify with. You need to work hard, you want people who have that to be at the club. To the fans, I have to win. I don't think I've been number one choice [with the fans] at any club I've been at. By the time we've left anywhere we've felt a real connection with the fans. I hope this will be the same. I hope people judge me at this moment [as manager] and not my time as a player here. My period here before gave me incredible learning."On proving doubters wrong: "I have to be [confident I can do it]. I have a lot to prove. My whole career has been based on proving people wrong."On whether he will be backed financially: "We've always been able to create a team we enjoy watching. The squad in place now can do better and be better. We're going to add. We're clear on what we need. But also giving people a chance to show a better version of themselves. Players always surprise you."On whether he thinks he can immediately challenge for title: "We're confident we can have a team that's better and win more points and really compete to win trophies."On his playing style: "Based on courage and intensity. Courage to take the ball and express yourself in final third. Concept of the game will always be the same, try and dominate the ball and territory, to to that you need to be aggressive without the ball."On what assistant coach Matt Gill will bring: "He brings technical expertise, brilliant coach, played a huge role in developing players at Norwich Under-21s. We're very different personalities."On whether he will get time and patience: "We need to win early and find a way to win while developing. We had to do that at Southampton, winning in a period of change. I can't sit here and say we need two years to build, I want us to keep improving and developing. The end product might not click immediately, but we need to find a way of winning while developing that."

Draymond Green makes astonishing NBA Finals claim ahead of Pacers-Thunder showdown

Four-time champion Draymond Green has claimed that he would rather be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs than lose in the NBA Finals. The Warriors star insists it is 'almost worse' to make it all the way to the Finals, only to fall at the final hurdle. 'One of the worst seasons you can have,' Green said. The 35-year-old was speaking ahead of this year's tussle between the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder, which begins on Thursday night. Green and the Warriors won the NBA Championship in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. But the forward was also part of the Golden State team that lost in the finals in 2016 and 2019. 'If you don't win it, it's almost worse,' the 35-year-old said. 'You might as well have lost in the first round.' 'If you want me to be quite honest with you, I personally think making it to the NBA Finals is one of the worst seasons you can have,' he continued on his YouTube show with Baron Davis. 'Going to the NBA Finals and winning an NBA championship, those two things are so far apart. You can get to the NBA Finals and not be close to winning an NBA championship. 'I know that may sound hard for people to believe... but those that have won championships will definitely understand what I'm saying. 'Those that have been there and didn't quite win will definitely understand what I'm saying. Those two things are so drastically far apart.' The New York Knicks fell short against the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, losing the series 4-2 and then firing head coach Tom Thibodeau. But Green insisted: 'Even if the Knicks made it to the NBA Finals and didn't win it, that's not some accomplishment to me. 'You get nothing for making the NBA Finals except a couple (tens of thousands of dollars) more than the conference final loser... you walk with nothing. The (other) team goes on and celebrates and has this incredible summer. 'And you're kind of left stuck trying to figure out: "Were we really close? Do we need to run it back with this team? What's the tweak we need to make? Because we were right there. Or we weren't really right there."' The Oklahoma City Thunder are favorites to win their second NBA Championship. They are -700 with FanDuel, while the Pacers are +500 win the seven-game series. Oklahoma City had the best record in the NBA over the regular season and Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton admitted: 'We know the odds are stacked against us.' But the guard, who played a pivotal role in Indiana's win over the Knicks, insisted they 'want to go through the best team' to win a first NBA championship. 'This is the best challenge... this is the best team in the NBA. It's been the best team in the NBA all year,' he told ESPN. 'They're well-coached. They just do everything so well. There's no shortcuts to beating this team. 'We know the odds are stacked against us. It is what it is. We want to be here. We want to play against the best. This is the best. We look forward to the challenge as a group.' Haliburton added: 'They're historically great on both sides of the ball... they have the MVP (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander). There's so many different things you could name down the list of why they are so great at what they do, why they're such a great team.'
