
Active Abu Dhabi launches programme to community well-being
Active Abu Dhabi, an initiative by Emirates Foundation, has launched a programme named Misrah, a programme to promote national identity and community well-being.
The initiative, a part of the Year of Community, was announced during an introductory workshop hosted at Active Abu Dhabi headquarters in Al Qana, Abu Dhabi.
The workshop brought together representatives from government entities, community organisations, key media and logistics partners, as part of a comprehensive national effort to support community initiatives throughout 2025, in line with the aspirations of the UAE Year of Community.
The introductory workshop was attended by by 50 participants, including representatives from government entities, community organisations, and key media and logistics partners. Participants included the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, Department of Education and Knowledge – Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Media Office, Department of Community Development, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, Ministry of Defense, Nafis Program, Abu Dhabi News Network, National Search and Rescue Center, PureHealth, Abu Dhabi Media, National Library and Archives, Federal Geographic Information Center, National Media Office, Office of the Ruler's Representative, and Abu Dhabi Police, alongside several academic institutions and private sector collaborators. The workshop explored opportunities for cooperation and integration between government and private sector entities, emphasising the vital roles of media, logistics, and culture in supporting the initiative.
Misrah is a pivotal national initiative that brings to life the values of the UAE's founding fathers through an immersive journey that weaves together culture, identity, and physical activity. It aims to instill authentic Emirati values in young people.
Reflecting Emirates Foundation's commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and social responsibility, Misrah offers transformative experiences that reconnect youth with the UAE's cultural roots and deepen their understanding of the UAE's natural and human environment, by reviving traditions in a modern, meaningful way.

Misrah is aligned with the national vision of fostering a stronger, more united, and socially cohesive community. Misrah combines physical activities, such as walking and camel riding, with heritage experiences that echo the desert lifestyle of past generations, enhancing young people's appreciation of their cultural heritage and inspiring a profound sense of national pride and belonging.
Participants will journey up to 1,000 km, over a 30-day journey, across the UAE's diverse landscapes, undertaking daily walks that emulate ancient travel. Along the way, they will cultivate patience, discipline, and a spirit of cooperation.

Blaze hits Al Hamriyah Port; no injuries reported
A massive fire that broke out early today at a fuel warehouse in the Al Hamriyah Port area has been contained with no injuries, according to local media reports citing Sharjah Police. The blaze engulfed flammable materials, thus sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, said the report. This triggered an extensive emergency response from the UAE Civil Defence, the Sharjah Police, and the National Guard, which quickly swung into action and prevented it from spreading to adjacent facilities. Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police and Chairman of the Local Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Team in Sharjah, confirmed that the fire has been fully brought under control. He noted that relevant authorities have begun cooling operations at the site. Specialised technical teams from Laboratories and Forensic Evidence Department will determine the cause of the fire and assess the damages in coordination with concerned entities, he added.

Dubai Airports makes elaborate arrangements for Hajj pilgrims
Dubai Airports has launched an extensive operational plan at Dubai International (DXB) to facilitate the smooth departure and return of pilgrims participating in Hajj 2025. This initiative underscores the airport's commitment to providing a seamless and supportive airport experience during one of the busiest periods of the year. This year, approximately 3,100 pilgrims are set to depart from DXB on 28 dedicated flights operated by Emirates, flydubai, Saudia, and flynas. The official delegation from the Government of Dubai will commence their journey on the first official Hajj flight from Terminal 3 on June 1. To ensure a streamlined experience, Dubai Airports, in collaboration with the oneDXB community, including Dubai Police, General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai (GDRFA), Dubai Customs, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, dnata, and airline partners, has implemented the following measures: *Dedicated check-in counters across Terminals 1, 2, and 3. *Prayer rooms and changing facilities in all terminals for Ihram preparation. *Multilingual guest experience ambassadors and Hajj committee support desks. *Designated baggage carousels for the secure handling of Zamzam water. Dubai Airports has urged pilgrims to arrive at the airport at least four hours prior to departure and to carry all required travel documents, including passport, Emirates ID, Hajj permit and vaccination certificate. "These journeys are personal, profound, and often once in a lifetime," remarked Essa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports. "Through the efforts of our people and the oneDXB community, we want to ensure every pilgrim departs with confidence and returns with ease," he stated. The pilgrims are expected to return between June 9 and 12. Preparations are in place to provide a warm welcome, coordinated baggage support, and a small token of appreciation upon arrival. The Hajj season coincides with the summer travel peak and the Eid Al Adha holiday, during which DXB anticipates a significant increase in guest volumes, stated Al Shamsi.
