
Information Sought Following Suspicious Fires, Northland
Detective Sergeant Paul Overton says Police and Fire and Emergency services responded to reports of a fire on on Pataua North Road, Whareora on the morning of 20 May.
'At around 7am, about 15 T8 Traffic Control cones were taken from a stretch of road under maintenance, stacked in the middle of the road, covered in diesel and set alight.
'A second set of stacked cones were set alight further up the road.'
Detective Sergeant Overton says in the past seven months Police have also received a number of reports in relation to suspicious bush and scrub fires in the Matapouri, Tutukaka, Ngunguru and Pataua areas.
'We encourage anyone who was in these areas or has any information about any of these fires to get in touch.'

Person seriously injured after falling from car
Photo: A person has been seriously injured, after falling from a car near Pōkeno, south of Auckland, on Saturday. Police were called to the scene around Avon Road at about 6pm. Baby found injured in Foxton Beach dies
Photo: RNZ / REECE BAKER A six-month-old baby who was found with critical injuries at a Foxton Beach house last weekend has now died, according to Central District investigations manager, Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Deegan. Police earlier said an investigation was under way, after the baby was found with critical injuries at a property on Seabury Avenue about 5.30am Sunday. The baby was initially transported to Palmerston North Hospital, before being airlifted to Starship Hospital in Auckland. A scene examination of the Foxton Beach home was completed earlier in the week and a homicide investigation has now commenced. Deegan said several people had already been spoken with and the police continued to liaise with medical experts to establish how the baby boy came to be injured. Two dead after crashes in Canterbury and Taupō districts
Two people died after crashes in Leeston and near Moutere on Friday night. Photo: Two people have died after separate South Island crashes on Friday night. A person died after a crash in Leeston in Canterbury after emergency services were called to reports of a vehicle colliding with two pedestrians at the intersection of Leeston and Lakes Road and Harts Road at 7.40pm. A police spokesperson said one person died at the scene while another was taken to hospital with serious injuries. They said a scene examination was conducted and police were working to determine the cause of the crash. A person died after a two-vehicle crash near Motutere near Taupō. Police said they were called to State Highway 1 near Jellicoe Point at about 7.45pm on Friday but the person died at the scene of the crash.
